MARY L. HAMPTON

ULYSSES -- Mary Louis Hampton, 78, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at her residence in Ulysses.

She was born Sept. 13, 1926, to James T. and Margaret (Ludwig) Smith in Holcomb.

She married Ray V. "Skeet" Hampton Sept. 13, 1943, in Ulysses. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1962.

She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Ulysses.

Survivors include two sons, James R. Hampton and wife Karen, Satanta, and Gary D. Hampton, Ulysses; one daughter, Linda J. McHenry, Ulysses; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Peggy Elliot, Granada Hills, Calif., and Cora Townsend, Moreno Valley, Calif.

She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Trey D. McHenry; one great-grandson, Ray Dean Ybarra McHenry; two brothers, Miles Smith and Johnny Smith, and two sisters, Georgia Shannon and Martha Losey.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Satuday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.

Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospital of St. Louis or Youth Bridge Family Community in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 West Grant Street, Ulysses, KS 67880.

MARGUERITE C. NORDYKE

DEERFIELD -- Marguerite Cherry Nordyke, 84, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

She was born Oct. 28, 1920, to Clarence Calvin and Florence Mae (Locke) Cherry in Drumwright, Okla.

She was married to Albert Noel Taylor on July 29, 1939, in Holdenville, Okla.

She was married to Donald Allen Nordyke Sr. on May 21, 1949, at Lakin. He died Jan. 12, 1984.

She graduated from El Dorado (Ark.) High School in 1938. She also took classes through Northeastern Colorado Junior College and Dodge City Community College.

She worked for Deerfield Petroleum Company. She later worked as Deerfield city clerk and at Deerfield Corner Grocery. She also did income tax work.

Her hobbies included making quilts and traveling.

Survivors include two sons, Noel Taylor, Deerfield, and Bob Taylor, Liberal; one daughter, Marianne Nordyke, Garden City; seven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Donna Jackson Pepper.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Donald Allen Nordyke Jr.; one daughter, Martha Farris, and one sister, Vera Reynolds Blackwell.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Deerfield Cemetery with the Rev. Donald E. Carter presiding.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin.

Memorials are suggested to High Plains Retirement Village or Alzheimer's Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home.

BILL M. HUNT

The Rev. Bill M. Hunt, 83, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Southwest Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 4, 1922, to Earnest and Mollie Jones Hunt in Morrilton, Ark.

He married Edna M. Hill on Oct. 12, 1941, in Muskogee, Okla. She died Aug. 11, 1977.

He married Minnie Smith, Dec. 28, 1986, in Wichita. She survives.

He served as associate pastor of the New Testament in Liberal Church for many years.

He was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church of Liberal and All Nations Church of Liberal.

Survivors include four sons, the Rev. William Hunt and wife Betty, Wichita, Roosevelt Hunt and wife Tina, Oklahoma City, the Rev. Moses Hunt and wife Eva, Pittsburg, Calif., and Andrew Hunt, Liberal; four daughters, Betty Portley and husband Clifton, Wichita, Joyce Johnson, Kansas City, Mo., Alice Love and husband Larvell, Lake Charles, La., and Annette Hunt Mullins, Liberal; 36 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and one brother, Robert Hunt and wife Yvonne, Benica, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one son; and one daughter.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at All Nations Church with the Rev. Jimmy Holman presiding.

Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary.

CARMON D. JUDD

Carmon Dean Judd, 63, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at his residence in Liberal.

He was born March 4, 1942, to Clarence Scott and Lucille Maxine Rife Judd in Guymon, Okla.

He married Merriloy Duncan on Aug. 3, 1963, in Hooker, Okla. She survives.

He graduated from Hugoton High School in 1960.

He worked at Beech Aircraft in Liberal on the wing line and was a mechanical tech and inspector. He also farmed until his retirement in 1996.

Other survivors include two sons, Kenny Judd, Liberal, and Troy Judd and wife Lisa, Alma, Ga.; three grandchildren, Brady, Cayden and Madison Judd; and two step-grandchildren, Vinnie Odom and Taylor Handy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three uncles, Don and Raymond Judd and Ival Rife; and one niece, Suzanne Duncan.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal with Neville Buchanan presiding.

Friends may call at Miller Mortuary 4 to 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

ALMA DIRKS

MONTEZUMA -- Alma (Unruh) Dirks, 88, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma.

She was born Feb. 4, 1917, to Noah T. and Carrie (Jantzen) Unruh at Coldwater.

She married Henry Dirks on April 14, 1940. He died Nov. 7, 1971.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Church of God In Christ Mennonnite in Montezuma.

Survivors include four daughters, Judy Kaye Wadel and husband Jerry, Clarksdale, Miss., Janice Lynn Johnson and husband Joe, Macon, Miss., Gloria Darlene Holtz, Hutchinson, and Connie Sue Sauer and husband James, Little River; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin Unruh and wife Norma, Brooksville, Miss. and Joe Unruh and wife Della, Halstead; one sister, Hazel Jantz and husband Franklin, Livingston, Calif.; one brother-in-law, Curtis Johnson, Halstead; and many relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jerald Dean Dirks; and three sisters, Lorena Becker, Esther Johnson and Eva Wiens.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at North Mennonite Church in Montezuma with Ministers Donald Koehn, James Koehn and Marlin Unruh presiding.

Burial will be in North Mennonite Cemetery in Montezuma.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

WILLIAM A. GRIFFITH

BURLINGTON -- William A. Griffith, 58, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Coffey County Hospital of Burlington.

He was born January 28, 1947, to Frank and Phyllis Rambo Griffith at LaPorte, Ind.

He married Jane Marie Hill on Aug. 16, 1969, in Burlington. She survives.

He graduated from Evansville (Ind.) High School in 1965. He went to college to become a respiratory therapist and graduated in 1967. He later attended Kansas State University in Manhattan and graduated with a business degree.

He served in the Medical Corp of the United States Army and was discharged in January 1970.

He worked as a respiratory therapist, administrator and consultant for hospitals for 20 years.

He was a member of United Methodist Church in Burlington. He worked as a youth leader and Sunday school teacher.

He was the original president of the Older Manhattan Neighborhood Association and belonged to the Downtown Redevelepment Association in Manhattan.

Other survivors include his mother; two sons, Michael Griffith and wife Jessica, Burlington, and Mark Griffith, Burlington; one granddaughter, Jalyn Paige Griffith; one brother, Tom Griffith, Saginaw, Texas, and two sisters, Barbara Mitchell, LaPorte, Ind., and Mary Relander, Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his father and one son, Matthew Howard Griffith.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church of Burlington.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Burlington.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family recieving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.

Memorials are suggested to Kansas University Hematology Department, Coffey County Hospital or the National Bone Marrow Registry in care of Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
