MADELINE S. ZABEL

Madeline Susan Zabel, 95, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Southwest Medical Center.

She was born on Oct. 25, 1911, to Charles Henderson and Annie Velmer (James) Rackley in St. Louis.

She married Sam Zabel in 1941.

He died in April of 1996.

She graduated from Hugoton High School and obtained her teacher's certificate from Panhandle Agriculture and Mechanical College in Goodwell, Okla., in the early 1930s.

She taught for 10 years in rural grade schools in Stevens County.

She quit teaching in order to help with farming interests in rural Stevens County.

She was member of the Gospel of Grace Church in Hooker, Okla. She was an Awana leader.

She enjoyed painting. She had the distinction of being in Liberal's first Pancake Day race.

Survivors include one son, Loren Zabel and wife, Vera Lee, Hugoton; one daughter, V. Ann Dolyniuk and husband, Norman Spruill, San Francisco; two grandchildren, Erika Zabel, Liberal, and Matthew Zabel, Hugoton; and one sister, Jean Younggren, Redfield.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Velmer Rackley; her stepfather, Johnny Dye; and two half brothers, Floyd and Melvin Dye.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Hooker Cemetery with Judy Barnes, Good Samaritan Center spiritual wellness coordinator, presiding.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association or a charity of choice and will be accepted at Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.

LEOTA L. BUDD

SATANTA -- Leota L. Budd, 95, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit, where she had been a resident.

She was born June 27, 1911, to Franklin Sherman and Leona (Ballenger) Davis in a dug out in Beaver, Okla.

She married Earl Budd. He died in 1963.

She was a business manager for Cushman Motor Scooter Shop in Fort Wayne, Ind., for several years.

She attended church services at the Satanta Long Term Care Unit.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Liberal.

She enjoyed playing cards on Friday at the Happy Agers Site. She also enjoyed playing dominoes at Satanta Long Term Care Unit. After her health declined, she enjoyed when her family brought her great-niece, Kyra Joyce, to visit.

She is survived by five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one niece, Myrna Goff, Satanta, who cared for her for many years; and many nephews, nieces and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Earl Dean Budd and Max Lee Budd; three brothers, Eugene Davis, Edward Davis, and Holland Davis; and three sisters, Dora Davis, Wilma Henderson, and Evelyn McCloskey.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Satanta Long Term Care Family Room.

Burial will be at a later date in Fort Wayne Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no public visitation at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Satanta EMTs in care of Shopping True Value in Satanta or Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

JOSE I. TORRES ARAMBULA JR.

ULYSSES -- Jose Isaias Torres Arambula Jr., 17, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, in Morton County.

He was born Feb. 21, 1990, to Jose Isaias Sr. and Maria Teresa (Arambula) Torres in Tijuana, Mexico.

He was employed with Seaboard Farms.

He was a member of the Sunday school at Primera Iglesia Bautista Church in Ulysses.

He is survived by his parents; one brother, Ricardo Torres, of the home; one sister, Brenda Flores, Garden City; his maternal grandparents, Juan Manuel Arambula Acosta and Manuela Ayala Antunez, Colonia Villa de Guadalupe mpio ciudad Lerdo Durango; his paternal grandparents, Alejo and Eva Torres, of Mexico; and many uncles and aunts.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Primera Iglesia Bautista Church in Ulysses with Pastor Manuel Perez and Pastor Richard Perez presiding.

Evening services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will follow the funeral services at Ulysses Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Primera Iglesia Bautista Church.

DARLENE D. BECKER

HOLCOMB -- Darlene D. Becker, 72, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.

She was born Nov. 10, 1934, to Fredrick and Elizabeth Youngbauer Pulkrabek in Beroun, Minn.

She married Alfred L. Becker Jr. Nov. 4, 1950, in Garden City. He survives.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Christian Faith.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, baking, watching football and especially watching NASCAR races on the television.

She is also survived by three sons, Darris L. Becker, Garden City, Terry L. Becker, Holcomb, and Randy D. Becker, Garden City; two daughters, Rhonda J. Conley, Holcomb, and Shellie Morehouse, Scott City; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bruce Pulkrabek, Des Moines, Iowa, and Dale Pulkrabek, Salina; and three sisters, Carol Gindlesberger, Branson, Mo., Janet Naab, Liberal, and Pat Baier, Brighton, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Pulkrabek.

Funeral services were at 7 p.m. Monday at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City with the Rev. Randy Caddell presiding.

Burial will be at a later date.

There will be no public calling times.

Memorials are suggested to the Darlene D. Becker Memorial Fund in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home.

FRANCES E. BEHNKE

LYONS -- Frances E. Behnke, 92, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital.

She was born July 24, 1914, to William and Beulah Hobson Curtis in Republic County.

She married Harold Emery Behnke Aug. 11, 1948, in Topeka. He died Dec. 9, 1968.

She was a homemaker and retired clementary school teacher, having taught in Republic County then Bushton and Lyons.

She served as a house mother at Kansas Wesleyan in Salina and the Institute of Logapedics in Wichita.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and a former Sunday school superintendent, all of Lyons.

She was a member of the Sorosis Club in Lyons and the Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by one daughter, Alice J. Griffitt, Liberal; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, the Rev. Charles Curtis and wife, Betty, Wichita.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ardith Leslie and Ruth Curtis.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Lyons with the Rev. Dr. Quentin Bennett presiding.

Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons and from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in care of Sillin Funeral Home, 214 W. Ave. South, Lyons, KS 67554.

WINIFRED B. HODGES

Winifred B. Hodges, 86, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born May 31, 1921, to George B. and Maggie L. (Creed) Ragsdale in Liberal.

She married Basil L. Hodges Feb. 16, 1941, in Liberal.

He died Oct. 28, 1998.

She graduated Liberal High School in 1939 and attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickashaw, Okla.

She and her husband owned the Hodges Candy for many years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, the CWF, Jolly Girls Bridge Club and J.U.G. Club, all of Liberal.

Survivors include two sons, Ralph Hodges and wife, Terri, Ardmore, Okla., Kent Hodges, Liberal; and two grandchildren, Ryan Hodges, Ardmore, and Jamie Hodges, Dallas.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gilbert Ragsdale and Ralph Ragsdale; one sister, Alynee Bragg.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church, with the Rev. Jack Russell presiding.

Burial will be in the Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Miller Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or to Wheatridge Care Park Center in care of the mortuary.
