Garry L. Switzer

SCOTT CITY -- Garry L. Switzer, 58, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.

Born Dec. 15, 1941, at Emporia, he was the son of Fred and Ethel Bell (Eitel) Switzer.

He was a butcher and a produce manager for many years in Scott City, having moved from Ness City to Scott City in 1957. He served as a military policeman during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Switzer was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Ness City and was a former board member of the Women's Softball Association at Scott City.

On Sept. 12, 1964, he married T. Lucille Morris at Pacific Grove, Calif. She survives.

Other survivors are two sons, Rondo Switzer, Dodge City, and Barry Switzer, Scott City; and a brother, Gene Switzer, Dodge City. He was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene VanDegrift.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Tom Walters officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Ness City Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 6 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the funeral home.

G. Maxine Rankin

Funeral for G. Maxine Rankin, 75, of Garden City and formerly of Arkansas City, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City, with the Rev. Guy E. Rendoff officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

Mrs. Rankin died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.

She was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Chautauqua County, the daughter of John W. and Sophie (Lounsbury) Stafford. Reared and educated in Sedan, she graduated from Sedan High School in 1942.

On Aug. 8, 1945, she married Harold L. Rankin at Sedan. They made their home in Sedan and then lived in various places before moving to Maple City in 1952. They moved to the Perry and Tonkawa area in Oklahoma and then to Arkansas City in 1957.

A homemaker, Mrs. Rankin also worked as a cook for Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for several years and later worked in the fabrics department at TG & Y.

She and her husband moved to Wichita in 1978 and she went back to work part-time for TG & Y before retiring in 1984. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Godmothers Club, both at Garden City.

She is survived by a daughter, Marlene K. Lee, Garden City; a sister, Irene Ferguson, Cedar Vale; and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1985; a son, Harley Rankin; two sisters, Grace Keithley and Mildred McCann; and a brother, Irvin Stafford.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the American Lung Association, both in care of the funeral home.

Olga Pruitt

Olga Pruitt, 72, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

Born May 15, 1927, at Gary, Ind., she grew up there and graduated from Tolliston High School in Gary.

On May 10, 1944, she married Ben Pruitt at Gary. They spent most of their married life in Hobart and Chesterton, Ind. After his retirement, they traveled in Mexico for 15 years. He died in March 1991. She was also preceded in death by a sister and five brothers.

A homemaker, Mrs. Pruitt served as a foster parent. She belonged to Jehovah's Witnesses congregations of Chesterton and Alamonte Springs, Fla. Her special interests were her family and church.

She lived with her daughter in Winter Springs, Fla., for the past four years and had been in Garden City for three months.

She is survived by three sons, Fred Pruitt, Maynard, Ark., Ben Pruitt, Chesterton, and Ben Phillips, Portage, Ind.; two daughters, Victoria McCarley, Winter Springs, and Maryann Berndt, Chesterton; a brother, Edward Konapacki, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services and burial are planned for later in Indiana.

Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, is in charge of arrangements.

Richard E. Trebilcock

ALAMOTA -- Richard E. Trebilcock, 71, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at his home in Alamota.

He was born July 5, 1928, at Dodge City, the son of William Sidney and Dorothy Ella (Vincent) Trebilcock.

In 1946, he graduated from Garden City High School, where he was captain of the basketball team. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Trebilcock was a department manager at Kaufman's Department Store in Colorado Springs, Colo., from 1953 until 1955. He owned and operated several A&W Drive-in restaurants in Colorado Springs from 1955 until 1980 when he became owner of the Lads N' Lassies store in Fort Collins, Colo. He moved to Alamota in 1992.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Colorado Springs and had served on the church board, belonged to the Downtown Fort Collins Association, National Advisory Board of A&W International, Colorado State A&W Association Board and the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, and was a past president of Colorado Springs Mitchell High School-Band Parents Association.

On Dec. 10, 1966, he married Joan E. Vycital at Colorado Springs. She survives. Other survivors are two sons, Steven Ray Trebilcock, Morrill, Neb., and Scott Douglas Trebilcock, Loveland, Colo.; a daughter, Cindi Lyn Trebilcock, Great Bend; a brother, Sidney Trebilcock, Hutchinson; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Coleen.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with American Legion Post No. 190 of Dighton conducting graveside rites.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Melvin A. Reed

HEALY -- Funeral for Melvin A. Reed, 87, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Mike Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Healy Cemetery.

Mr. Reed died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at LaCoba Nursing Home in Monett, Mo.

He was born Sept. 20, 1912, in Ness County, the son of Jack and Zada (Kiner) Reed, and attended Healy schools.

A lifetime resident of the Healy area until moving to Missouri in 1979, he was a self-employed brick mason. His special interests were fishing, hunting, gardening and playing cards.

He is survived by three daughters, Peggy Culver, North Pole, Alaska, Nancy Martin, Monett, and Patsy Redburn, Dighton; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Eaton and Christina Anderson; two brothers, Archie Reed and Joe Reed; and two infant brothers.

Visitation hours are from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or Lane County Long Term Care, both in care of the funeral home.

Hulda K. Smith

MONTEZUMA -- Funeral for Hulda K. Smith, 85, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Montezuma. Edwin Classen, Ernest Koehn and Charles Schmidt, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite Cemetery, Copeland.

Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where she had been a resident since Nov. 21, 1991.

She was born April 19, 1914, at Alvarado, Okla., the daughter of Frank and Lizzie (Shultz) Buller.

On June 10, 1931, she married Barney Albert Smith at Enid, Okla. They moved to Montezuma in 1938. Mrs. Smith was a reflexologist for 38 years and belonged to Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Montezuma.

She is survived by a son, Maurice Lee Smith, Great Bend; a sister, Jessie Smith, Enid; two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; two stepgreat-granddaughters; and one stepgreat-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and a grandson.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc., in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.
