James Alva Lashmet

MANTER -- James Alva Lashmet, 61, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at his home in Manter.

He was born Jan. 20, 1939, at Diamond, Mo., the son of Ross L. and Pauline (Ward) Lashmet. He attended Manter Grade School, and graduated from Manter High School and from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo.

A longtime resident of Manter, he was employed at Collingwood Grain in Manter and Big Bow for 25 years. He was a member of the Johnson Falcons R/C Model Airplane Club of Johnson and the National Academy of Model Aeronautics.

He is survived by four brothers, John E. Lashmet, Johnson, Thomas H. Lashmet, Killen, Texas, Robert L. Lashmet, Alva, Mo., and Paul Lashmet, Aurora, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Johnson, with the Rev. Bob Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Lakin Cemetery, Lakin.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.

Dallice E. Mutter Koerner

Dallice E. Mutter Koerner, 82, a former Garden City resident, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at her home in Terre Haute, Ind.

She was born Sept. 29, 1917, at Remington, Ind., the daughter of Jasper and Mearl (Smith) Carlile. She graduated from Boswell (Ind.) High School in 1936 and from Lafayette Business College.

Mrs. Koerner lived in Boswell from 1974 to 1979 and had resided in Terre Haute for the past three years. She had worked as a secretary for Moews Seed Co., Boswell.

She was a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star at Garden City where she served as worthy matron and as a grand page, belonged to the United Methodist Temple at Terre Haute and was an associate member of Bradenton River (Fla.) United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts, arts, photography and traveling.

She married Kenneth Mutter, who died on June 20, 1973. On May 18, 1979, she married Fred Koerner. He survives. Other survivors are a daughter, Kathryn Bower, Marlin, Texas; two stepsons, Gary Koerner, Danville, Ill., and Carl Koerner, Homewood, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Phyllis Wilburn, Lenoir City, Tenn., and Rebecca Rickard, Heyworth, Ill.; two sisters, Esther Tingley, Boswell, and Helen Rock, Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Robert Carlile, Freeport, Ill., and the Rev. Keith Carlile, Bloomington, Ind.; a granddaughter; 12 stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral was 11 a.m. Feb. 22 at Boswell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rachel Bales-Case officiating. Burial followed in Boswell Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Yuill-Shoemaker Funeral Home, Boswell, was in charge of arrangements.

Glenn E. 'Pete' Killion

Glenn E. "Pete" Killion, 98, a longtime resident of Garden City and a Denver resident for 25 years, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Porter Hospice home in Denver.

He was born Dec. 26, 1901, at Eminence, and attended schools in Eminence and Garden City.

Mr. Killion held several jobs before starting at Norris Drug Store, where he worked for many years. After receiving a civil service appointment at the post office in 1942, he was employed there until 1962 when he retired after suffering several heart attacks.

He had a life membership in the Elks Lodge, was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a life member of the Finney County Historical Society.

On Oct. 30, 1924, he married Vallie V. Miller. She died April 6, 1984.

He is survived by his children, Betty Jane Hayes, Martinez, Calif., Milton Eugene Killion, Fort Myers, Fla., and Evelyn Ann Tiemeyer, Wichita; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, at a later date.

Diana Annette Houck

ULYSSES -- Diana Annette Houck, 60, of Ulysses, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.

She was born April 27, 1939, at Wichita, the daughter of Harold Eugene and Wyona (Lewis) Young.

A homemaker, she was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ulysses.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Lee, Ulysses, and Barbara Wooley, Denver; her mother, Ulysses; and two sisters, Carol Reilly, Kansas City, Mo., and Billie Branch, Ulysses. She was preceded in death by her father.

No services are planned.

Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses, is in charge of arrangements.

Alvin C. Heronemus

DIGHTON -- Alvin C. Heronemus, 68, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at his home in Phoenix.

Born Aug. 20, 1931, at Ness City, he was the son of Jake and Elizabeth (Schwartz) Heronemus, and grew up in Dighton.

He attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. A teacher, he spent his career in New Mexico and Arizona, retiring from the Window Rock school district in Fort Defiance, Ariz. He had lived in Phoenix since 1994.

Mr. Heronemus was a member of Southern Baptist Church. With carpentry as his special interest, he had built his home and a trading post in Colorado.

On Aug. 12, 1949, he married Wanda Lewis at Dighton. She survives. Other survivors are two sons, Clifford Heronemus, Gallup, N.M., and James Heronemus, Glendale, Ariz.; a daughter, Sherry Deer, San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Harold Heronemus, Leoti, and Clarence Heronemus, Amarillo, Texas; three sisters, Evelyn Powell, Garden City, Anna Means and Estelene Hoddy, both of Liberal; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will follow in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the J.O.Y. Center, in care of the funeral home.

Helen Elizabeth Elliott

SCOTT CITY -- Helen Elizabeth Elliott, 77, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.

She was born April 2, 1922, at Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Scott L. and Zeina Dell (Butcher) Palmer.

On Nov. 22, 1939, she married Carl L. Elliott. She married Odis Gosnell in May 1950. On Dec. 17, 1977, she and Carl were remarried. He died June 5, 1996, at Scott City. Her second husband died in February 1984. She was also preceded in death by three brothers.

A Garden City resident since 1950, moving from Knoxville where she worked as a waitress and at Sears Roebuck Co., she moved to Madisonville, Ky., in 1968 and to Shallow Water in 1977.

She was a member of Gospel Fellowship Church at Shallow Water, VFW Auxiliary at Scott City, and Gold Star Mother. A homemaker, her hobbies included embroidery work when making baby quilts for family and friends, raising house plants and collecting bells.

Mrs. Elliott was an active blood donor for the American Red Cross, having given 81 pints of blood over the years. Through her donations, she remembered her son, Carl Scott Elliott, a career army man now stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

In addition to her son, she is survived by three daughters, Mary Helen Harp, Guymon, Okla., Traci Blundell, Satanta, and Pat Daubert, Scott City.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Gospel Fellowship Church, Shallow Water, with the Rev. Warren Rikard officiating. Inurnment will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials to the Helen Elliott Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
