C.T. 'Buster' Finneman

C.T. "Buster" Finneman, 80, of Beach, N.D., died Thursday, June 15, 2000, in Buffalo, Okla.

A custom harvester, Mr. Finneman worked for many years throughout southwest Kansas. His last days were spent custom harvesting in Oklahoma with his son, Steve.

He was born Sept. 2, 1919, the son of Michael and Susanna (Bertram) Finneman.

On Nov. 23, 1943, he married Florence Begger at St. Phillips, Mont. They lived near Golva, N.D., before moving to Beach in 1980.

Mr. Finneman began farming in Golva and eventually farmed with his sons, David and Steve, expanding to the area of Wibaux, Mont., where he and his wife farmed until his death.

He enjoyed custom harvesting, flying and farming. In 1999, he was inducted into the U.S. Custom Harvesters National Hall of Fame for 50 years of custom harvesting.

For 55 years, he harvested in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and South Dakota, working his way back to the North Dakota farm.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Katy Zinsli, Dickinson, N.D., Alicia Heick and Donnella Maixner, both of Bismarck, N.D., Ruth Schmitt, Badaxe, Mich., and Marie Kremers, Sentinel Butte, N.D.; two sons, David Finneman, Rapid City, S.D., and Steve Finneman, Alberton, Mont.; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marcella Kittel, Waldport, Ore., and Weinie Barthel, Beach. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew Finneman and Clarence Finneman.

Rosary was 7 p.m. June 18, followed by a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at St. John's The Baptist Catholic Church in Beach. Mass of Christian Burial was 10 a.m. June 19 at the church, with the Rev. David Morman officiating. Rite of Committal was in St. John's The Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Beach.

Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach, was in charge of arrangements.

Edward L. Barkdoll Jr.

TRIBUNE -- Funeral for Edward L. Barkdoll Jr., 33, of Litchfield, Minn., and formerly of Tribune, will be 2 p.m. MT Saturday at Assembly of God Church in Tribune, with the Rev. Michael Underwood officiating. Private burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.

Mr. Barkdoll died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Meeker County.

He was born Feb. 7, 1967, at Oswego, the son of Edward Leonard Sr. and Virginia "Jenny" (Rose) Barkdoll. He attended high school in Tribune.

Mr. Barkdoll was a carpenter for Marcy's Construction in Litchfield.

On March 7, 1998, he married Cynthia Pillis at Independence. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Ashley Barkdoll, Sublette; five stepdaughters, Amanda Moore, Independence, Monica Zimmerman, Leoti, Michelle Eikenberry, Garden City, Mindy Zimmerman and Rebecca Zimmerman, both of Sublette; two stepsons, Jesse Moore, Litchfield, and Travis Zimmerman, Tribune; three stepgrandchildren; his mother, Tribune; four brothers, Tom Burton, Kansas City, Mo., Ken Burton and Larry Barkdoll, both of Tribune, and Garry Barkdoll, Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; two sisters, Debbie Hall, Cheyenne Wells, and Colleen Barkdoll, Ingalls; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

There will be no visitation. Memorials in his memory may be sent in care of Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Goodland, KS 67735.

Lloyd Leroy Crawford

HUGOTON -- Lloyd Leroy Crawford, 73, Hugoton, died Thursday at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1926, the son of Ernest Leroy and Alba May (Mason) Crawford in Morton County near Elkhart.

Crawford lived in his southwest Kansas his entire life and retired as a farmer.

He married Dorene Hodges on March 26, 1944, in Elkhart. She died June 23, 1994. Crawford then married Phyllis Jones on Feb. 11, 1995, in Hugoton, where she still lives.

Crawford served the United States in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Hugoton and served as an elder at the church. He was a past president of the Kiwanis, also in Hugoton.

Crawford was a Stevens County Silver-haired Legislator, Midian Shrine, a past master of the Masonic Lodge No. 406 AF & AM in Hugoton, Pioneer Manor Nursing Home board member and a Hugoton Cemetery board member.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth L. Crawford and Donald C. Crawford, both of Hugoton; his mother, Alba May Wayland, Hugoton; one brother, Everett Lee Crawford, Hugoton; two sisters, Norma Stoddard, Hugoton, and Velda Anderson, Ulysses; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Glenn Crawford.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Hugoton. Rev. Robert Bailey will preside over the services. Graveside services will be conducted by the Vets Military Group and Masonic Lodge. Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been made by Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.

A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association, which can be sent to Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Clair Dierks

LEOTI -- Clair Dierks, 72, dies Tuesday at the Wichita County Hospital, Leoti.

He was born on June 4, 1926, the son of E.H. and Augusta Joy Rupp Dierks in Haven. He was a farmer and had been a Leoti resident since 1930.

He married Iona Mae Tatman on March 28, 1948, in Madison. She still lives in Leoti.

Dierks was a member of the First Baptist Church in Leoti.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harold Dierks, Ogallala, Neb., and Mark Dierks, Garden City; two daughters, Jana Simon, Marienthal, and Ruth Ritter, Leoti; one brother, Connie Dierks, Leoti; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Dierks was preceded in death by one sister and one grandson.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Leoti. Rev. Rick Woolard will officiate. Burial will be at the Leoti Cemetery.

Calling hours will be until 9 tonight at the Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti.

Memorials may be given to the Leoti E.M.T. or the American Heart Association, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.

Rose Mary Burgardt

Rose Mary Burgardt, 74, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at her home in Garden City.

She was born March 5, 1926 at Chicago, the daughter of Anton and Blanche Laura (Weigel) Brungardt. She moved from Victoria to Garden City in 1932 and was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, all of Garden City. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, crocheting, sports, yard work, travel, music, reading and being with family and friends. She also helped serve at wedding receptions and funeral dinners for many years.

She married Gregory Knoll at Garden City July 10, 1943. He died Nov. 8, 1944. Then on Sept. 3, 1946, she married Peter William Burgardt at Garden City. He died April 5, 1998.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Burgardt of Tacoma, Wash., and David Burgardt of Garden City; four daughters, Janet Linenberger, Patricia Biggs and Laurie Gerber of Garden City and Coleen Ortiz-Burgardt of Logan, Utah; one brother, Allen Quint, of Salinas, Calif.; six sisters, Barbara Harrington and Louise Wasinger of Garden City, Lillian Tatro of Commerce City, Colo., Jane Handy of Las Vegas, and Jean Dunnam and Carol Barton of Garden City; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Quint and Mildred McCaslin.

Vigil services are 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held there 10:30 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. James Baker the celebrant. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary School Endowment Fund or the St. Catherine Home Health and Hospice, both in care of the funeral home.
