Selma Plett Friesen
Private family service for Selma Plett Friesen, 86, of Hillsboro, was Wednesday at Hillsboro Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Roy Keller officiating. Private family burial was in Gnadenau Cemetery
in rural Hillsboro.
Mrs. Friesen, a homemaker, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.
She was born April 5, 1914, at Lehigh, the daughter of Jacob E. and Mary (Heinrichs) Plett.
On Nov. 3, 1935, she married J.E. Friesen at Lehigh. He died in 1988.
She is survived by two sons, Joel, of Marion, and Paul, Troy, Mich.; two daughters, Ruth Friesen, Wichita, and Mary Fightmaster, Phoenix; two brothers, Jake Plett, Augusta, and Joe Plett, Garden City; and three grandchildren.
Memorials to the Selma Plett Friesen Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Robert A. Newport
LAKIN -- Funeral for Robert A. Newport, 73, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Lakin, with Chaplain Pete Cousins officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
Mr. Newport died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Kearny County.
He was born July 31, 1926, at Lakin, the son of Lloyd and Ruth (NcVey) Newport. A lifetime resident of Lakin, he was a farmer and stockman. He belonged to the Lakin Baptist Temple.
On Dec. 30, 1944, he married Virdia Simshauser at Syracuse. She survives. He is also survived by six sons, Ron Newport, Ulysses, Don Newport, Colorado Springs, Colo., Dan Newport, Garden City, Phil Newport, Mark Newport and Kirk Newport, all of Lakin; seven daughters, Joyce Kiesel, Mountain Home, Idaho, Carol Rexroat, Danette Holmes and Helen Grubbs, all of Lakin, June Towell, Ogallala, Neb., Christina Johnson, Ulysses, and Janelle Andersen, Dodge City; a brother, John Newport, Fort Worth, Texas; 41 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

St. Clair Rowe
DIGHTON -- Funeral for St. Clair Rowe, 83, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Kerry Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with military services conducted by American Legion No. 190.
Mr. Rowe died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the Lane County Long Term Care Unit in Dighton.
He was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Barton County, the son of Clarence A. and Elizabeth B. (Yost) Rowe. He resided in Lane County since the family moved there in 1920.
Mr. Rowe worked for the Lane County Road Department for 32 years, the last 17 years as a civil engineer. He was a member of First Christian Church, American Legion Post No. 190 and IOOF. Lodge No. 286, all at Dighton, and VFW Post No. 7972 at Ransom, belonged to Alcoholics Anonymous, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On May 31, 1935, he married Lila Doris at Cimarron. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Doug Rowe, Garden City; two daughters, Lois Howard, Sallisaw, Okla., and Janet Gassman, Topeka; two sisters, Evelyn Garrett and Jean Hemel, both of Dighton; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Rowland C. "Ronnie" Rowe; a brother, Owen Rowe; a sister, Betty Anderson; and a grandson.

Alice Waller
Alice Waller, 85, of Los Angeles and a former area resident, died Monday, July 3, 2000.
She was born Nov. 13, 1914, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of James and Iva (Arnold) Waller. The family moved to western Kansas and she grew up in the Plymell community. She had lived most of her life in Los Angeles.
She is survived by a brother, Kenneth Waller, Garden City; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.
Graveside service was 1:30 p.m. Friday at Woodlawn Cemetery
in Santa Monica, Calif.
Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary, Los Angeles, was in charge of arrangements.
Everett Hale Blau
Funeral for Everett Hale Blau, 75, was 10 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Brewster, with the Rev. John Gerry officiating. Burial followed in Brewster Cemetery.
Mr. Blau died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at his home in Atwood.
He was born Nov. 4, 1924, at Leoti, the son of Louie and Julia (Rubottom) Blau. He attended country school in Logan County and graduated from high school at Russell Springs.
Mr. Blau served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II. He then farmed for several years before moving to Brewster in 1965. He continued to work in agriculture until retiring in 1990.
As a young man, he enjoyed participating in sports and, in recent years, he enjoyed following area sports teams. He had also taken up fishing as a new hobby.
He and his wife, Irene (Bush) Blau, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1994, having married on March 11, 1944. She died July 15, 1995.
On Feb. 14, 1998, he married Roma Lee Porter Mellick. Until his death, they had made their home in Atwood.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Douglas Blau, Cedar Crest, N.M., Mike Blau, Garden City, Roger Blau, Hoxie, Greg Blau, Edwardsville, and Brent Blau, Omaha, Neb.; two stepchildren, Ronald Mellick, Hays, and Melody Antholz, Riverton, Neb.; four brothers, Martin Blau, Logan, Utah, Fredrick Blau, Ashland, Charles Blau and John Blau, both of Leoti; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel, Colby, was in charge of arrangements.
Robert Thomas Lewis
Funeral for Robert Thomas Lewis, 44, of Omaha, Neb., will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Papillion, Neb.
Mr. Lewis died Monday, July 3, 2000, from injuries suffered when his single-engine airplane crashed at Lakewood, N.J.
Born July 30, 1955, in Omaha, he was the son of Raymond and Virginia (Williams) Lewis.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Sue Lewis, formerly of Garden City; two daughters, Rebecca Ann Lewis and Emily Kay Lewis, both of Bennington, Neb.; three sons, Eric Sorens, Alex Sorens and Ryan Sorens, all of Omaha; and two sisters, Terri Lewis-Murdock, Denver, and Sandy Husk, Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Irwin H. Muller
Funeral for Irwin H. Muller, 76, of Harper, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Funeral Home, Harper, with the Rev. Daryl Bahn officiating. Burial will be in Harper Cemetery.
Mr. Muller died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Via Christi Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born June 4, 1924, at Rago, the son of Ferdinand H. and Emma (Schneider) Muller.
Mr. Muller was the owner and operator of a custom harvesting business. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Argonia and VFW Post No. 11449 at Harper.
On Dec. 29, 1952, he married Mary Grace Adams at Argonia. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Richard Muller, Danville, and Robert Muller, Harper; two daughters, Judy Latta, Garden City, and Barbara Harper, Argonia; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
