Joe V. Montoya

Johnson CITY - Rosary for Joe V. Montoya, 64, will be 7 tonight at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Johnson City. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. John Kowal officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City.

Mr. Montoya, a farmer, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Las Animas, Colo.

He was born Dec. 25, 1935, at Colmor, N.M., the son of Eusebio and Andronica (Sanchez) Montoya.

Mr. Montoya attended Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ulysses.

In 1965, he married Mary A. Marquez in Colorado. She survives. He is also survived by his mother, Boone, Colo.; three brothers, Eli Montoya, Colorado Springs, Colo., Henry Montoya, Pueblo, Colo., and Eusebio Montoya Jr., Boone; six sisters, Rosie Tillot, El Paso, Texas, Margaret Gallagos, Aurora Santos and Edna Valdez, all of Colorado Springs, Ruth Vigil and Mary Ann Barela, both of Los Angeles; and numerous grandchildren. His surviving children include his sons, Joe Sierra, Harley, Texas, Stephen Sierra and Pete Montoya, both of Johnson City, Carlos Montoya, Granite Falls, Wash., Joe Montoya and Ronnie Montoya, both of Florida; and his daughters, Debbie Housholder, Manter, Lucy Montoya and Margaret Castner, both of Florida. He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson City. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital, in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson City, KS 67855.

Betty Lou Motsa

ULYSSES - Betty Lou Motsa, 65, of Ransom, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Grissel Memorial Long Term Care in Ransom.

She was born June 1, 1935, at Horace, the daughter of Ernest and Lena (Yost) Noble. A homemaker, she had been a longtime resident of the western Kansas area.

On July 25, 1952, she married Patrick Motsa at Clayton, N.M. He died in 1971.

She is survived by a daughter, Rose Marie Arthur, Ransom; five sisters, Virginia Henley, Ransom, Verna Eaton, Hayden, Ariz., Claudia Avery, Phoenix, Eleanor Smith, Ulysses, and Beckie Leighty, Pinrose, Colo.; and three grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. The family plans a private service at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Grissel Memorial Hospital, in care of Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, KS 67560.

Clayton Edwin Preedy

SUBLETTE - Funeral for Clayton Edwin Preedy, 29, of rural Sublette, was to be 10:30 this morning at the Haskell County Fairgrounds Arena, Sublette, with burial in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.

Mr. Preedy died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in rural Haskell County.

He was born Sept. 3, 1970, at Minneola, the son of Carl Edwin and Sharon Kay (Williams) Preedy. He graduated from Sublette High School, attended Colby Community College and graduated from Fort Hays State College.

A farmer and rancher, Mr. Preedy enjoyed going to rodeos, in which he team roped and bull dogged. He played softball, liked professional wrestling, ranching and horses, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was a member of the Christian Church of Sublette and the Kansas Professional Rodeo Association and was a former associate member of the Satanta Co-op Board and the Haskell County Agriculture Extension Board at Sublette.

On Sept. 2, 1995, he married Renee Heather Swanson at Fontanelle, Iowa. She survives. Other survivors are a daughter, Bailey Rhea Preedy, Sublette; his father and stepmother, Carl and Sheila Preedy, Meade; his mother, Sublette; his grandfather, C. Max Williams, Fowler; three sisters, Shawn Preedy, Sublette, Shana Guttery, of Alton, and Micalah Preedy, Meade; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Wilma Preedy, and his grandmother, Florence Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to an education fund for Bailey Rhea Preedy or to the donor's choice, both in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

Bennie Chambers

Graveside service for Bennie Chambers, 57, of Garden City, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Selden Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Allen officiating. Committal rites will be conducted by Selden American Legion Post No. 321.

Mr. Chambers died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Veteran Hospital in Wichita.

He was born Aug. 27, 1942, at Goodland, the son of Jay and Edith (Smith) Chambers. He grew up in Goodland and attended schools there.

A Garden City resident since the 1970s, he was owner and operator of his own trucking firm. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

On Oct. 23, 1981, he married Romona Belisle at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Burton Ivy, Garden City; two daughters, Marilyn Wilson, Wichita, and Linda Bryant, Garden City; a brother, Jerry Chambers, New York; a sister, Barbara Gumbar, Great Bend; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Chambers.

Visitation hours are from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home, Selden. Memorials in his name may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Adam Ramsey

TRIBUNE - Memorial service for Adam Ramsey, 92, will be 3 p.m. MT Tuesday at Assembly of God Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Mike Underwood officiating. Inurnment will follow in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.

Mr. Ramsey died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Greeley County Long Term Care Unit in Tribune.

He was born Dec. 6, 1907, at Fairplay, Mo., to Adam and Carrie (Jones) Ramsey, the youngest of 11 children. He attended school in Fairplay.

Mr. Ramsey moved from Missouri to Colorado, where he worked as a farmhand for a short time before starting work for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad as a mechanic operator.

A Tribune resident since 1969, moving from Ordway, Colo., he enjoyed shocking feed, turning bales with the help of his children, baseball and playing horseshoes.

On Feb. 19, 1936, he married Nellie Irwin at Trinidad, Colo. She survives. He is also survived by four daughters, Sonita King, Irving, Texas, Tommie Jean Krump, Oberlin, Alice West, Louisiana, and Billie Dee Jenkins, Des Moines, Iowa; five sons, James, Sublette, Freddie, Colorado Springs, Colo., Timmy, Las Vegas, Harold and Charlie, both of Tribune; 31 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; two children, Ruth and Jerry; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University, in care of Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Goodland, KS 67735.

Bernadine Ann (Gittlein) Keenan

Vigil service for Bernadine Ann (Gittlein) Keenan, 61, of Seward, will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, Great Bend. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Seward, with the Rev. Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis of Xavier Cemetery, Seward.

Mrs. Keenan died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Radium in northwest Stafford County, which also took the life of her grandson, Thomas Andrew Keenan.

She was born March 15, 1939, at Willowdale, the daughter of Alexander and Agnes (Sheahan) Gittlein.

On June 6, 1959, she married John J. Keenan at Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Seward, she was a homemaker and a partner with her husband in their farming operation. She was a member of St. Francis of Xavier Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Seward.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Todd A. Keenan, Larned, and Timothy G. Keenan, Seward; two daughters, Tracy A. McGuinness, Shelburne, Vt., and Tiffany L. Keenan, Lawrence; two brothers, Jerome A. Gittlein, Rye Beach, N.H., and James L. Gittlein, Leoti; three sisters, Mildred Dunmire, Hutchinson, Christina Brady, Ingalls, and Alice Bilberry, Garden City; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, KS 67530.

Thomas Andrew Keenan

Vigil service for Thomas Andrew Keenan, 9, of Great Bend, will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, Great Bend. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Seward, with the Rev. Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis of Xavier Cemetery, Seward.

Thomas died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Radium in northwest Stafford County, which also took the life of his grandmother, Bernadine Ann Keenan.

Born May 6, 1991, at Thousand Oaks, Calif., he was the son of Timothy G. Keenan and Joanne Hilliard Keenan. A Great Bend resident for one year, moving from Seward, he attended St. Rose Catholic Church School, was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Cub Scout Pack No. 184 and was a Greenwing in Ducks Unlimited, all at Great Bend.

He is survived by his mother, Great Bend; his father, Seward; two brothers, Alex Keenan and Sean Keenan, both of Great Bend; and his grandparents, John Keenan, Seward, and Jim and Darlene Hilliard, Gilbert, Ariz.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children Fund, in care of the funeral home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, KS 67530.
