Janice Delois Jones

Janice Delois Jones, 65, of Hutchinson, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.

She was born Dec. 14, 1934, at Hastings, Neb., the daughter of Corrine Henrietta Jefferson. She graduated from Garden City High School and received a degree in social work in 1957 from Emporia State University.

A 35-year resident of Hutchinson, she had worked for 13 years as a social worker for the State of Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

She is survived by her sisters, Yvonne Kay Johnson and Claudia Hairston, both of Hutchinson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Hutchinson, with Elder Luther Gilkey officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Sunflower Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.

Robert K. "Buzz" Williams

HUGOTON - Graveside service for Robert K. "Buzz" Williams, 73, of Hugoton, was to be 11 this morning in Richfield Cemetery, Richfield, with the Rev. Nel Holmes officiating.

Mr. Williams died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart.

He was born July 16, 1927, in Morton County, the son of Jesse Clinton and Ethel Marie (Addington) Williams.

A lifetime area resident, Mr. Williams was a farmer and cattle rancher. He was a member of VFW Post 5391 of Hugoton, Elks Lodge No. 1947 of Liberal, Cattlemens Association and the Hugoton Country Club Mens Association. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

On Nov. 26, 1949, he married Betty Jean Davison at Clayton, N.M. She survives. Other survivors are two sons, Jay Clinton Williams, Elkhart, and Tony Kirk Williams, Hugoton; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; and two brothers, Perry and Charles.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.

Reva L. Carson

Funeral for Reva L. Carson, 46, of Liberal, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Assembly of God Church, Liberal, with the Rev. Jack Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Carson died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Liberal.

She was born April 13, 1954, at Liberal, the daughter of Leon and Connie (Parr) Graham. Her mother's family are from Garden City.

Mrs. Carson graduated from Seward County Community College. She worked at Wal-Mart as a secretary/clerk for many years and was a member of Assembly of God Church in Liberal.

On March 29, 1986, she married Kit Carson at Liberal. He survives. Other survivors are her parents, Liberal; three sisters, Cynthia Sallaska, Liberal, Rhonda Keith, Kismet, and Julie Graham, Bartlett, Tenn.; and several nephews.

Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Kitch Funeral Home, Liberal, with the family greeting friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Assembly of God Church, both in care of the funeral home.

John R. Coleman

John R. Coleman, 55, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Nov. 23, 1944, at Syracuse, the son of John Lester and Dora (Fisher) Coleman. He grew up in Syracuse and graduated from Syracuse High School.

Mr. Coleman enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the military police in Germany. After his discharge from the service, he worked in construction at Concordia for four years. In 1970, he moved to Garden City and worked for Henkle Drilling for two years, for the Finney County Road Department for two years, for Smith Sand Co. for 10 years and then returned to the Finney County Road Department where he was employed at the time of his death.

He was a life member of the VFW-John J. Haskell Post No. 2279 of Garden City, and belonged to the Harry H. Renick American Legion Post No. 9 of Garden City, the National Home of VFW and the VVNW (Veterans of the Vietnam War). His special interest was driving around town and throughout the country.

He is survived by a daughter, Dawn Sahr, Bismarck, N.D.; a brother, Charles Coleman, Bird City; a sister, Charlotte Mueller, Bartlesville, Okla.; two grandsons; and several nieces. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Hamlin; and a brother, Courtland Coleman.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with Chaplain Shannon Borchert officiating. Burial will be in Bear Creek Cemetery in Hamilton County, with the Garden City Area Veterans Honor Guard conducting graveside rites.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Garden City Area Veterans Honor Guard Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Lorene Mumma

HEALY - Funeral for Lorene Mumma, 89, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Healy, with the Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock officiating. Burial will be in Healy Cemetery.

Mrs. Mumma died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at Lane County Long Term Care in Dighton.

She was born Nov. 26, 1910, in Kingman County, the daughter of the Rev. Mehlon and Era (Fitch) Markwell. She grew up in various places while her father was a minister, graduating from Burdett High School.

After marrying Ray Mumma on Nov. 22, 1929, at Burdett, she lived in Alamosa, Colo., for a few years and then moved to Healy where she spent the rest of her life.

A homemaker, Mrs. Mumma enjoyed making quilts, knitting, playing bridge and reading. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Healy, United Methodist Women and Tuesday Morning Bible Study.

Her husband died March 25, 1996. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty McCarty; and two sisters, Violet Peck and Irene Stewart.

She is survived by two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Berttie Jefferies, Wichita, and Lois Dean Pike, Sharon Springs.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Glen E. Lederer

Glen E. Lederer, 81, of 1505 E. Spruce St., died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

He was born Aug. 28, 1919, at Baldwin City, the son of Earle and Edith (Newland) Lederer. He grew up and attended schools there.

Mr. Lederer served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946 during World War II and also served from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean conflict. While serving during World War II, he received a Bronze Star.

On Nov. 5, 1942, he married Georgia Caskey at Baldwin City. They moved to Garden City in 1948. He worked for many years at Coast to Coast and later worked as a department manager for Cash and Carry Lumber, retiring in the early 1990s.

Mr. Lederer was a member of Bible Christian Church and the Saddle Club. He enjoyed horses, horseback riding and horse shows.

He is survived by two sons, L. Kent Lederer, Chicago, and Mark Lederer, American Canyon, Calif.; a daughter, Nancy Carr, Garden City; a brother, John Lederer, Ottawa; three sisters, Thelma Randell, Baldwin City, Doris Blevins, Eudora, and June Pine, Lawrence; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, who died on June 5, 1990; and a brother, Arley Lederer.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Ives Chapel Methodist Church, Baldwin City, with Mr. Lederer's son, the Rev. L. Kent Lederer, officiating. Burial will be in Baldwin City Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Bible Christian Church of Garden City, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.

George E. Price

Funeral for George E. Price, 84, a native of Garden City, was planned for today in Brownsville, Texas, where he had moved to spend his retirement years.

Mr. Price died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000.

He had worked as a pressman for The Garden City Telegram for many years, having worked up to the position after starting as a newspaper carrier. Hired by Jerry Reed, a former editor, he worked at The Telegram from his high school days through the war years. He then spent 25 years at the Denver Post and retired from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in the early 1970s. Earlier this year, he received his 50-year pin from the International Typographical Union.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma, and a daughter, Mary, both of Brownsville; a sister, Betty, Parksville, British Columbia; and a brother, Charles, Cleveland.
