Dorothy Romine

Funeral for Dorothy Romine, 95, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Romine died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City

She was born Jan. 19, 1905, at St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Joseph Dawson and Anna Phoebe (Tetrualt) Kees. The family moved to the Oklahoma Strip when she was 4 and to Ashland when she was 15.

On April 19, 1924, she married Roscoe E. Romine at Sitka. They moved to Garden City in May 1926. A homemaker, she had worked in her earlier years at Cooper Hatchery and at the sugar factory and did the laundry for the Air Force Base during World War II.

She was a member of First Christian Church of Garden City, Helping Hands Club, Royal Neighbors Lodge, VFW Auxiliary and Progressive Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed embroidering and quilting.

Her husband died May 28, 1988. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Truitt; and five brothers, George Kees, Roy Kees, Harold Kees and two brothers named Homer Kees.

She is survived by a son, Frank Romine, Garden City; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Juan Herrera

Vigil service for Juan Herrera, 41, will be 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by Spanish rosary. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Carlos Garcia Pena, C.J., officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mr. Herrera died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born March 8, 1959, at El Salto, Durango, Mexico, the son of Armando and Paulina (Martinez) Herrera.

A Garden City resident since 1994, moving from California, Mr. Herrera worked at various places. He attended St. Mary Catholic Church, and enjoyed listening to music and spending time with his sons, family and friends.

On Feb. 10, 1984, he married Angelita Gutierrez at Durango. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Miguel Herrera and Saul Herrera, both of the home; four brothers, Raul Herrera, Jose Herrera and Gabriel Herrera, all of Durango, and Samuel Herrera, Garden City; four sisters, Irma Aleman, Chicago, Silvina Gutierrez and Maria Diaz, both of Durango, and Adelina Monarrez, Houston; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother, who died on April 8, 2000; a daughter; three brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the Juan Herrera Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Orson Eugene Seal

SYRACUSE - Graveside service for Orson Eugene Seal, 90, will be 3 p.m. MST Wednesday in Syracuse Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Gould officiating. A family dinner will take place at 12:30 p.m. MST Wednesday at Christ New Covenant Church on U.S. Highway 50 in Syracuse.

Mr. Seal died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at the Hamilton County Extended Care Facility, Syracuse, where he had been a resident since 1994.

He was born May 9, 1910, in Hamilton County, the son of John Wesley and Iva May (Wilkins) Seal. He attended Hamilton County rural schools.

A Syracuse resident since 1934, he previously lived north of Coolidge. He had been employed as a welder for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway System for 28 years, retiring March 24, 1964. After his retirement he mowed yards in the community.

Mr. Seal attended Christ New Covenant Church in Syracuse and was a member of the Hamilton County Bullet and Bow Club. With his natural white hair and beard, he was well known in the community for playing Santa Claus. He loved horses and, as an employee of the railroad, he enjoyed traveling by train.

On Jan. 12, 1932, he married Luella Shandy at Syracuse. She died Aug. 21, 1992. He was also preceded in death by three daughters, Laura Dorsey, Ivalon Hersey in October 2000, and Blanche in May 2000; nine brothers, Bill Seal in 1998, Raymond Seal, Claude Seal, Hershel Seal, Edwin Seal, Wesley Seal, Lawrence Seal, Orville Seal and Tom Seal on Jan. 10, 2000; and five sisters, Emma, Ivalon Garrett, Marie, Violet Seal and Ruby.

He is survived by two sons, Eugene Seal, Yucaipa, Calif., and John Seal, Syracuse; a daughter, Martha McCoy, Topeka; a brother, Loren John "Buster" Seal, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Frances Love, Albuquerque, N.M.; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 MST tonight and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. MST Wednesday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. Memorials are suggested to the Orson Seal Family, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878-1253.

Phyllis Ann Wendler

Phyllis Ann Wendler, 49, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at her home in Garden City.

She was born Sept. 25, 1951, at Wichita, the daughter of Frances and Mary (Dinkel) Farmer. She grew up in Scott City, graduated from Scott Community High School, was the first woman to graduate Summa Cum Laude in economics from Fort Hays State University, and graduated in 1980 from the University of Kansas Law School.

She worked in Wichita for the law firm of Jochems, Sargant & Blaes and then moved to Curfman, Harris, Wiegand & DePew representing insurance companies and banks. In 1982, she moved to Garden City to work with Michael Friesen and, in 1985, became a full partner in the Friesen & Wendler law firm.

She was a charter member of Big Brothers & Big Sisters, and a member of American Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, Kansas Bar Association and the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association. Her special interest was finding homes for animals or taking care of them herself. She also enjoyed fine food and gourmet cooking. Before an accident in 1993, she jogged two to five miles a day.

She is survived by a son, Dodge Wendler, Overland Park; her mother, Scott City; and two sisters, Teresa Farmer, Great Bend, and Doris Farmer, Wichita. She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Visitation hours are from 3 to 8 tonight, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Phyllis Wendler Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Charles J. Anderson

Charles J. Anderson, 67, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at his home in Garden City.

He was born April 16, 1933, at Deerfield, the son of Joseph and Sybil (Jones) Anderson. He grew up and attended schools in Deerfield.

On Feb. 22, 1953, he married Shirley J. Beasley at Deerfield. After his service from 1953 to 1955 in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, they moved to Garden City. For more than 18 years he worked as a truck driver for Concrete Industries, retiring in 1998.

Mr. Anderson enjoyed gardening and yard work, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, John Anderson, Holcomb, Duane Anderson and Greg Anderson, both of Garden City, and Richard Anderson, Liberal; two brothers, James Anderson, Montauk, N.Y., and Gene Rigdon, Lakeside, Mont.; six sisters, Frances Skipton and Stella McGinn, both of Garden City, Mary Skipton, Deerfield, Judy VanVacter, Kansas City, Georgia Carter, Memphis, Tenn., and Mary Sue Stanfield, Simi Valley, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Ruth Rigdon Anderson; two daughters, Pamela Jean Anderson and Paula Jane Anderson; two brothers, Warren Rigdon and Frank Anderson; and two sisters, Laura Slattery and Reva Welch.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bible Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Jeff Starkey officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with military graveside rites conducted by the Garden City Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation hours are from 3 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Marie D. Conrardy

Vigil service for Marie D. Conrardy, 69, of Dodge City, will be 7 tonight at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City, with the Rev. John R. Strasser officiating.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Conrardy died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Dodge City.

She was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Finney County, the daughter of John Daniel and Alice (Gatlin) Domingo.

A longtime Garden City resident, moving to Phoenix in 1987 and returning to Garden City in 1994, she moved to Dodge City in 1995.

Mrs. Conrardy was a real estate broker for Century 21 Real Estate and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, both at Garden City.

On June 28, 1955, she married Jerome Conrardy at Garden City. He survives and lives in Tempe, Ariz. She is also survived by a son, John Conrardy, Denver; three daughters, Marilynn Kay Kinkelaar, Dodge City, Marsha Jeanne Egelhoff, Richland, Wash., and Lisa Kittleson, Mesa, Ariz.; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Clarence Domingo and Paul Domingo.

Memorials are suggested to the Cathedral Building Campaign or Good Samaritan Special Care Unit, both in care of Burkhart Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
