Dunette L. Bloedorn

LEOTI - Funeral for Dunette L. Bloedorn, 57, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Rick Woolard officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.

Mrs. Bloedorn died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Wichita County Hospital in Leoti.

She was born July 26, 1943, at Garden City, the daughter of Frank and Esther (Watson) Taylor.

A lifetime resident of Wichita County, she was a clerk at the Wichita County Treasurer's Office, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a former Cub Scout leader. A homemaker, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

On Dec. 17, 1960, she married Marvin C. Bloedorn at Scott City. He survives. She is also survived by four sons, Terry Bloedorn, Brad Bloedorn and Todd Bloedorn, all of Leoti, and Bruce Bloedorn, Vermillion; her mother, Esther Braun, Leoti; a sister, Penny Crouch, Leoti; three brothers, Dick Taylor and Bob Taylor, both of Leoti, and Bill Taylor, Las Cruces, N.M.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the Leoti Emergency Medical Services, in care of the funeral home.

Joan K. Miller

Mass of Christian Burial for Joan K. Miller, 73, of Independence, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Independence, with the Revs. Stephen Mahn Thapwa and Kevin Trayers as celebrants. Rosary will be recited at 6 tonight at Potts Chapel, Independence. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Independence.

Mrs. Miller died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Independence.

Born July 19, 1927, in rural Neosho County, she was the daughter of Aaron E. and Anna Margaret (Hansen) Kepley.

She attended a rural school in Neosho County, graduated from Chanute High School and Chanute Junior College, and earned a degree in nursing from Sisters of Mercy Nursing School in Fort Scott.

Following her graduation, she moved to Independence where she began her nursing career at Mercy Hospital and was employed there until retiring in 1995.

Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, where she belonged to the Altar Society, Quilting Circle and Stephen Ministries. She was active in water aerobics and was a member of a duplicate bridge club.

On Nov. 21, 1953, she married Joseph A. Miller at Chanute. He died Oct. 7, 2000.

She is survived by two sons, Bob, Independence, and Jim, Norman, Okla.; three daughters, Ann Drees, Garden City, Patty Miller, Bisbee, Ariz., and Teresa Hilger, Republican City, Neb.; nine grandchildren; a brother, Bill Kepley, Chanute; and three sisters, Pauline Warner, Independence, Jane Furnish, Shawnee Mission, and Marge Neely, Chanute.

Memorials are suggested to the church or Mercy Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.

Esther J. Perez

Funeral for Esther J. Perez, 62, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God, Garden City, with the Rev. Kent Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Perez died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at her home in Garden City.

She was born Nov. 19, 1937, at Garden City, the daughter of Manuel Raymond Sr. and Sarah (Calderon) Beltran. A lifetime Garden City resident, she attended schools here.

A homemaker, Mrs. Perez also worked as a teacher's assistant and as a cook at St. Dominic School for several years. She was a member of First Assembly of God, and enjoyed cooking and dancing.

On Sept. 24, 1955, she married Benito Perez Sr. at Garden City. He died Nov. 5, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

She is survived by four sons, Benito Perez Jr., Garden City, Andy Perez, Philadelphia, Gabriel Perez, Overland Park, and Mitchell Perez of Lawrence; four daughters, Monica Garcia, Jackie Schwindt, Vita Grooms and Jalayne Pena, all of Garden City; two brothers, Manuel Beltran, Garden City, and Nick Beltran, Riverside, Calif.; four sisters, Tessie Kuypers, Santa Anna, Calif., Rita Herrera and Caverly Rojas, both of Garden City, and Geri Gomez, Liberal; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Patricia Jean Nicholson

Patricia Jean Nicholson, 71, of Manhattan, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000.

She was born Feb. 12, 1929, at Wamego, the daughter of George A. and Katherine L. (Foster) Strohm. She grew up in Gypsum, Colo., graduated from Grand Junction (Colo.) High School in 1945, and attended Kansas State University for two years.

She and her husband, Donald R. Nicholson, lived in Wisconsin for 10 years before moving to Colby. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years, starting as a carrier and advancing to assistant postmaster in Garden City.

Before her retirement in 1983, she also spent several years as acting postmaster in locations throughout Kansas. After her retirement, she moved to Manhattan, where she enjoyed gardening in the summer and spending winters traveling to Texas with her mother-in-law and her friend.

She is survived by three children, Larry A. Nicholson, Hanover, Donna J. Albrecht, Wichita, and Anita L. Reeve, LaSalle, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.

A private service is planned, with burial to be in Anderson Cemetery near Morland. Downing & Lahey Mortuary East Chapel, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, 837 S. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67211.

Cleo Louise Earnest

KENDALL - Funeral for Cleo Louise Earnest, 84, of Kendall, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Roselane Church of God, Ulysses, with the Rev. Mike Wirt and John Duran officiating. Burial will follow in Kendall Cemetery.

Mrs. Earnest died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.

She was born Dec. 24, 1915, at Penalosa, the daughter of Eli Herman and Gracie Mae (Hiatt) Tope.

A lifetime resident of Kendall, she was a homemaker and had been employed as a cook at Kendall School for many years. She had been a resident of High Plains Retirement Village, Lakin, for seven years and of Western Prairie Care Home, Ulysses, for the past year. She was a member of Kendall United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Floyd Pointer, Holcomb, and Dean Pointer, Ulysses; a daughter, Shirley Williams, Rolla; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the Western Prairie Care Home Chaplains Fund, in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.

Gene Houston Nash

INGALLS - Funeral for Gene Houston Nash, 72, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Dodge City, with Larry Williams officiating. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Mr. Nash died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron.

He was born Sept. 30, 1928, at Nekoma, the son of John and Emma (Phillips) Nash, and attended schools there. A farmer, he was a member of First Christian Church of Dodge City.

On April 9, 1952, he married Phyllis Carlene Cossman at Cimarron. She survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Sharon Deaver, Cimarron, Jeanine English, Sandford, Fla., and Charmaine Giessel, Holcomb; two sisters, Velma Burke, Rush Center, and Estel Cook, Ash Valley; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and George; and a sister, Wilma Herrman.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Memorials are suggested to the Gray County Ambulance Service, First Christian Church or The Shepherd's Center, all in care of the funeral chapel.

Henry Clay Stice

HOLCOMB - Henry Clay Stice, 95, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at the Lone Tree Compassionate Care Center in Meade.

He was born Sept. 6, 1905, at Duenewig, Mo., the son of James Thomas and Lena (Smith) Stice.

A Meade resident since 1941, he was a retired laborer for the Meade County Road and Bridge Department.

On March 22, 1927, he married Mary Ellen Wertz at Oswego. She died April 24, 1994. He was also preceded in death by one grandchild.

He is survived by four sons, Eugene Stice, Las Vegas, Ronald Stice, Canyon Lake, Texas, Charles Stice, San Jose, Calif., and Marvin Stice, Meade; five daughters, Margie Carpa, Meade, Doris Cope, Panorama City, Calif., Betty Bohling, Holcomb, Mabel Ilene Coleman, Wendover, Nev., and Retha Buettgenbach, Olathe; 28 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Meade, with the Rev. Lynn Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade. Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the mortuary, Box F, Meade, KS 67864.
