Ruth Elaine Stude

COPELAND - Ruth Elaine Stude, 81, of Dodge City and formerly of Copeland, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Manor of the Plains, Dodge City, where she had been a resident since May 1990.

Born Dec. 28, 1918, at Stafford, she was the daughter of William Henry and Louise (Hildebrand) Witt.

She lived in Bison until marrying Howard William Stude there on May 2, 1941. They moved to a farm northwest of Copeland in Haskell County, then moved to the southeast edge of Copeland in 1947 where they lived until moving to Meade County in 1957. They moved to Dodge City in 1990.

A homemaker, Mrs. Stude was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women at Dodge City and Copeland American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 369, a former member of the United Methodist Church of Copeland, and belonged to the M.I. Club of Copeland and the American Agricultural Movement.

She is survived by her husband; a son, John William Stude, Houston; two daughters, Marilyn Sue Webb, Plains, and Carolyn Ruth Perry, Corbin, Ky.; a brother, Arthur Witt, Claflin; a sister, Helen Zimmerman, Columbus, Neb.; seven grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Rogers; and a sister, Ethel Tombaugh.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Copeland, with the Revs. Warren Cico and Dick Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Montezuma Funeral Home and from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church, 210 Soule St., Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to the Copeland Santa Fe Senior Center, in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Feliciano Rocha-Perez

DEERFIELD - Feliciano Rocha-Perez, 31, of Deerfield, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Kearny County Hospital, Lakin.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son, all of Deerfield; his parents; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral and burial is planned at a later date at San Jose de Auro, Coahuila, Mexico.

Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.

Dr. John O. Austin

Dr. John O. Austin, 85, a former Garden City resident, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Tucson, Ariz.

He was born July 5, 1914, at Salina.

Dr. Austin was a physician and surgeon in Garden City for 44 years and was a member of Community Congregational Church.

He is survived by three sons, John M. Austin, Searcy, Ark., Bob Austin, Tybee Island, Ga., and George D. Austin, Viola; a daughter, Mary Lynn Nodgaard, Wichita; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Attillia "Polly" (Anderson) Austin, on Sept. 12, 1982.

Burial was in National Cemetery in Phoenix.

Memorials are suggested to Desert Dove Christian Church, 6163 S. Midvale Park Road, Tucson, AZ 85746.

Warren C. Bruner

HEALY - Graveside service for Warren C. Bruner, 80, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Healy Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock officiating. American Legion Post No. 190 of Dighton will conduct military rites.

Mr. Bruner died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus in Hays.

He was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Lane County, the son of Luther J. and Cora Viola (Painter) Bruner.

A lifetime Healy resident, he attended schools there. He then served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was stationed in northern Africa. After the service, he returned to Healy where he was a farmer and a U.S. Postal mail carrier. In his earlier years, he was also a partner in a domestic water well drilling business.

Mr. Bruner was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Lodge, both at Garden City. His special interest was playing cards.

He is survived by a brother, Myron Bruner, Healy; two sisters, Beulah Reeves, Dodge City, and Cornelia Thon, Scott City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Homer Bruner, Leo Bruner and Howard Bruner; and a sister, Neva Bathurst.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton, and from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Healy. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Margie Ida Swint

SYRACUSE - Margie Ida Swint, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse.

She was born May 7, 1915, at Magazine, Ark., the daughter of Thurman and Oma Gantt. She graduated from Magazine High School.

Mrs. Swint lived in the Midwest for most of her life. She lived in California for 25 years and had been a Syracuse resident since 1993. She had worked for a toy company, did copy machine work and was a secretary until retiring in 1992.

Mrs. Swint was a member of Baptist churches in California and Oklahoma. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening and cooking.

On Oct. 12, 1935, she married Talmage "T.A." Swint at Booneville, Ark. He preceded her in death as did a sister, Ruby Maxwell, and a granddaughter.

She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Gould, Syracuse; a son, Kenneth Swint, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; a sister, Johnnie Bell Stiller, Sparks, Nev.; a brother, Thurman Gantt, Sacramento, Calif.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. MST Friday in Syracuse Cemetery.

Visitation hours are until 8 MST tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. MST Thursday and 8 to 9:30 a.m. MST Friday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. Memorials are suggested to Hamilton County Extended Care Facility, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.

LuEtta M. (Hanson) Pearson

LuEtta M. (Hanson) Pearson, 71, of Overland Park, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000.

A former Garden City resident, she was born in Trego County. She graduated from Trego County High School in WaKeeney and from Fort Hays Kansas State University where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma.

Before moving to Overland Park, she and her husband, Charlie, lived in various Kansas towns including Pratt, Hutchinson, Topeka and Garden City, as well as in St. Charles, Mo.; Great Falls, Mont.; and Boulder, Colo.

While living in these cities, she actively supported her husband's work with Boy Scouts of America; served her churches as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, church secretary and leader of women's groups; and was a member of five PEO Chapters, serving four as president. She served as a Girl Scout leader and was a Salvation Army board member.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Cherie Brown, Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Frances E. Huffman Reynolds, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Alveda J. Adams, Tucson, Ariz.; and a granddaughter.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Leawood. Inurnment will be in Garfield Cemetery, following a fellowship service and luncheon at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at Garfield Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the donor's choice, in care of Amos Family Funeral Home, 10113 Lenexa Drive, Lenexa, KS 66215.

Wilma Mae Collins

Wilma Mae Collins, 76, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at her home in Garden City.

She was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Finney County, the daughter of Robert Edward and Pearl (Logan) Collins. The family moved to Garden City in 1932.

A homemaker, Miss Collins enjoyed embroidery and playing cards at the Senior Center of Finney County. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church and the Senior Center.

She is survived by a sister, Merle Andrews, Wichita; a nephew; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Lundgren and Sylvia LeFort.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Kent Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Senior Center, in care of the funeral home.
