Felipa Contreras

Felipa Contreras, 65, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born May 17, 1935 in Zimapan, Hidalgo, Mexico, to Alberto and Maura (Cortez) Contreras.

Ms. Contreras had been in Garden City for the past two months visiting relatives.

She is survived by three sons, Adolfo Salazar, Saturnino Salazar and Felipe Morales of Garden City; three daughters, Ernestina Salazar of Houston, Texas, Leticia Salazar of Garden City and Veronica Trejo of Mexico; one brother, Onecimo Contreras of Mexico; one sister, Fabiana Contreras of Mexico; and 18 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter.

Services will be held at a later date in Zimapan, Mexico, followed by burial in Juarez Cemetery, also in Zimapan.

Visitation will be Sunday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.

Doreen Marie Easton

HUGOTON - Doreen Marie Easton, 29, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in an auto accident outside of Liberal.

Mrs. Easton had been a Hugoton resident since 1995 while she was employed as a farrowing manager for Seaboard Farms east of Dermot. She was active in the First Church of God and the Girl Scouts in Hugoton, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raton, N.M.

Ms. Easton was born Oct. 5, 1971, to Jack I. Wiseman and Marilyn Towndrow Wiseman. She married Abe Wiles Easton on Dec. 19, 1992, in Raton N.M. He survives.

She is survived by her parents; one son, Talon Ruger Easton; one daughter, Fantasia Cerina Easton; and two brothers, William Barney Wiseman and Jack I. Wiseman Jr., both of Raton, N.M.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Church of God in Hugoton with the Rev. Bill Vincent presiding. Burial will be at the Fairmont Cemetery in Raton, N.M.

Memorials may be sent in care of Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Marlin McKinney

Johnson CITY - Marlin McKinney, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at his home in rural Stanton County.

Mr. McKinney was born Jan. 27, 1909, in Spearville, the son of Alfred and Mamie (Walton) McKinney.

McKinney had been a farmer and rancher in Stanton County since April 15, 1929. During the "Dirt Days", he drove his truck for the construction of Manter Dam and learned to cut stone, some of which was used for the Stanton County Shed, now the Stanton County Museum.

He was a 50-year member of the AF and AM Johnson Masonic Lodge No. 441 and completed Scottish Rite, Eastern Star No. 471 of Ulysses, past board member of the Roanoke School, FHA board member and enjoyed senior dances.

On May 6, 1927, Mr. McKinney married Georgia D. Stapleton in Syracuse, she survives.

He is also survived by one son, Marvin Ray McKinney of Johnson City; two daughters, Wanda Lee Dorsey of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ila June Ellis of Wamsutter, Wyo.; and eleven grandchildren.

Mr. McKinney was preceded in death by one brother, Wilbur Martin McKinney and two sisters, Eula Mamie Hartley and Wanda Elizabeth McKinney.

Services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Johnson City with the Rev. Glenn Fogo presiding. Private family burial will be held at the Stanton County Cemetery.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home of Johnson City.

Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to the Johnson Masonic Lodge No. 441 or Stanton County Long Term Care, both in the care of Garnand Funeral Home, Box 715, Johnson City, KS 67855.

Roscoe C. Waldorf

Roscoe C. Waldorf, 84, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Waldorf was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Lebo to William and Ruby (Fischer) Waldorf.

He moved to Garden City in 1955 and taught at Garden City Community College for 26 years. Mr. Waldorf was an active member in the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, where he participated in church choir, was a member of the church board and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame, a charter member of the Kansas Academy of Science and an honorary life member of the Kansas Association of Biology Teachers.

Mr. Waldorf was a past member of the Finney County United Way Board and the Garden City Park and Zoo Advisory Board. He was a past president and member of the board of directors for the Santa Fe Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and taught high school for 12 years before coming to Garden City.

Mr. Waldorf married Margaret Linville on May 3, 1942, in Monument. She died July 27, 1989.

He is survived by one son, William Waldorf of Liberal; one daughter, Rosalyn Waldorf of Arlington, Texas; one sister, Wilota Bliss of Leon; and one grandson, Brian Waldorf of Dallas, Texas.

A Boy Scouts of America Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Cousins presiding. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.

Memorials may be sent to the Santa Fe Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America in care of Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.

Joseph L. Collins

Joseph L. Collins, 65, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Aug. 16, 1935, at Garden City, the son of Joseph Vyron and Hazel (Smalley) Collins. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1953, and attended the University of Kansas and Garden City Community College.

A lifetime resident of Garden City, Mr. Collins was a salesman and co-owner of Merrill Implement in Garden City. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, was a U.S. Army veteran, and enjoyed all kinds of sports, working in his garden and being with his grandchildren.

On June 13, 1959, he married Donna Moler at Raton, N.M. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Jeffrey D. Collins, Garden City, Mark A. Collins, Colorado Springs, Colo., and J. Matthew Collins, Emporia; a daughter, Julia Plankenhorn, Haskell County; a sister, Peggy Musgrove, Springfield, Mo.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale Collins and Jack Collins.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Derald Musgrove officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Audio Reader Network, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.

Moses Jesus Cabrera Jr.

Funeral for Moses Jesus Cabrera Jr., 20, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Stil Guerrero officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.

Mr. Cabrera died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, from injuries suffered in an accident at the ConAgra beef plant in Garden City.

He was born Nov. 21, 1979, at San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the son of Moises I. Cabrera and Elsa M. Gutierrez.

A Garden City resident, he had worked at the Sonic Drive In, IBP and Freezer Services Inc. before beginning employment in the refrigeration department at ConAgra. He was a member of Templo Calvario of Garden City and belonged to the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed weight lifting, movies, dogs and spending time with his son.

He is survived by his wife, Caseylea Zimmerman, and a son, Moses Avery Zeth Cabrera, both of the home; his father and stepmother, Moises I. and Anneliese Cabrera, Lansing, Mich.; his mother, Marina Gutierrez, Honduras; a brother, Michael Cabrera, and a sister, Adriana Cabrera, both of Lansing.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials to the Moses Avery Cabrera Education Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
