Robert Ray Gill Sr.

HUGOTON - Robert Ray Gill Sr., 68, of Hugoton, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

He was born June 20, 1932, at Wheaton, Mo., the son of Homer Laten and Velma Flossie (Niller) Gill.

Mr. Gill had been a Hugoton resident since 1970, moving from Ulysses. He was a former mayor of Hugoton and had served on the city council, was a retired Pioneer Telephone Co. employee, belonged to Church of Christ, was a former Kiwanis member, had served on the board of Black Mesa Bible Camp, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

On April 22, 1956, he married Diana Marie Cooper at Ulysses. She survives. He is also survived by four sons, Robert Gill Jr. and Gregory Gill, both of Hugoton, Steve Gill, Dodge City, and Tech. Sgt. Galen Gill, Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Karen Goode, Hugoton; a sister, Christine Linsy, Stockton, Mo.; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Church of Christ, Hugoton, with Lee Skelton officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted.

Memorials are suggested to the Church of Christ Building Fund, P.O. Box 179, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, is in charge of arrangements.

Terry L. McMichael

Terry L. McMichael, 44, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Garden City.

He was born Oct. 10, 1956, at Garden City, the son of Paul and Ethel (Bone) McMichael. A lifetime resident of Garden City, he had worked as a technician with Cox Cable TV for 16 years.

On May 26, 1979, he married Tina M. Irwin at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Dustin McMichael, of the home; a daughter, Kristi McMichael-Ortiz, Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif.; a brother, Robert McMichael, Pittsburg; a sister, Tina Faulconer, Brown City, Mich.; and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Southern Baptist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. Inurnment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Terry McMichael Memorial Fund, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.

Arlene Eveleigh

LAKIN - Arlene Eveleigh, 69, of Ellis, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney.

She was born Dec. 10, 1931, at Lakin, the daughter of Herbert and Elva (Brown) Williams. A 1949 graduate of Lakin High School, she attended Kansas City Secretarial School at Kansas City.

Mrs. Eveleigh had served as a court reporter in Kearny County, was a former employee of Beamer & Beamer Law Firm at Lakin, a former co-owner of Sport Haven at Cedar Bluff Reservoir and most recently served as a Trego County commissioner. She had been a resident of Ellis since 1961.

She was the secretary for the Cedar Bluff Association, the Northwest Kansas County Commissioners and Engineers, and the Alternate Northwest Kansas Local Environmental Planning Group, and was a former member of the Federated Women's Club.

Mrs. Eveleigh was a member of the Saline Basin Water Board and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary No. 3774 of WaKeeney, and was a board member of the Northwest Kansas Planning and Development Commission, the Local Economic Development Committee and the Trego County Caring Communities Team (JJA).

She was active in the Kansas Legislative Group, the Kansas Association of Counties and the Kansas Tourism Association, and was a former Girl Scout leader in Kingman.

On Aug. 15, 1950, she married Leon Eveleigh at Lakin. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Curtis Eveleigh, Norton; two daughters, Arlena Lavon Parker, Bastrop, Texas, and Patricia Cupp, Logan, Ohio; a brother, Royce Williams, Lakin; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, WaKeeney, with the Rev. Tod Anthony and Dr. William E. Salmon officiating.

There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Cedar Bluff Lake Association, the Arlene Eveleigh Scholarship Fund or the Trego County Courthouse Square Tree Project, all in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

Margaret M. Ward

COPELAND - Margaret M. Ward, 80, of Copeland, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born Oct. 13, 1920, at Liberty, Neb., in Pawnee County, the daughter of Charles and Mazie G. (Bookwalter) Mefford. A resident of the Copeland area since 1947, moving from Nebraska, she worked as a postal clerk for 14 years at the Copeland Post Office.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Christian Church and American Legion Auxiliary, both at Copeland, and a former member of Rebekah Lodge and the Atomers Club. She worked with the veterans at Fort Dodge through the American Legion Auxiliary, was a worker at the bingo games at Copeland, and baked pies for the community for many years.

Mrs. Ward excelled in arts, crafts and oil paintings which she shared with her family and friends, and had a ceramic shop for several years and taught many how to make various items. She enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting friends.

On Nov. 23, 1941, she married Thomas L. Ward at Yuma, Ariz. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this year.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Hal R. Ward, Copeland; a granddaughter; a stepgrandson; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry Mefford, Vern Mefford, Francis Mefford and Chester Mefford; two sisters, Doris Mefford and Darlene Mefford; and a son, Tommy Lee Ward.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Copeland Christian Church, with the Rev. Larry Donelson officiating. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to the Copeland Santa Fe Senior Center and may be left at Dunham Drilling in Copeland or mailed to the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

Clarence F. "Tommy" Thomas Jr.

Clarence F. "Tommy" Thomas Jr., 78, of Garden City died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Via Christi Hospital, St. Francis campus in Wichita.

Mr. Thomas was born March 23, 1922, in Garden City to Clarence F. and Glenn Baker Thomas.

A resident of Garden City since 1945, Mr. Thomas was a 31-year veteran of the Garden City Fire Department. He served as fire chief for 15 years. He was a member of the Community Church and a World War II veteran.

On March 31, 1946, Mr. Thomas married Emma Lou Behymer in Dodge City, she survives.

Other survivers include, two sons, Ronald Lee Thomas of Torrance Calif., Terry Lynn Thomas of Garden City; one daughter, Marilyn Mayo of El Dorado; and four grandchildren.

One brother and four sisters died earlier.

A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City with the Rev. Raymond Raley presiding.

Visitation is from 12 to 8 p.m. Monday and Sunday at Price and Sons Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to Bethphage in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City.

Nora G. Cecil

ULYSSES - Funeral for Nora G. Cecil, 90, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.

Mrs. Cecil died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.

She was born Oct. 3, 1910, in Grant County, the daughter of John R. and Ella (Kendall) Fogleman. A lifetime resident of Ulysses, she was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.

On Jan. 28, 1929, she married C.E. "Chod" Cecil at Ulysses. He died in 1975. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by a son, Paul Cecil, Apache Junction, Ariz.; a daughter, Billy M. Taliaferro, Denver; a brother, Ray Fogleman, Ulysses; a sister, Mae Cadenhead, South Carolina; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
