Mary M. Ming

Funeral for Mary M. Ming, 76, of Anaheim, Calif., is planned for Wednesday, with burial at Melrose Abbey Mortuary & Cemetery in Anaheim.

Mrs. Ming died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Anaheim General Hospital.

She was born March 4, 1924, in Missouri. A homemaker, she had been a resident of Anaheim for 24 years.

She is survived by five sons, George Ming, Texas, Mike Ming and Bill Gettle, both of Colorado, Mark Ming, California, and Jim Kerns, Kansas; a daughter, Jackie Smith, San Diego; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Barbara Jane Lewis

ULYSSES - Funeral for Barbara Jane Lewis, 76, of Burwell, Neb., will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell, with the Rev. Kevin Murray officiating. Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Ulysses Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating.

Mrs. Lewis died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Neb.

She was born Feb. 3, 1924, at Ulysses, the daughter of George H. and Ora G. (Yohn) McGillivray. She went to school in Ulysses, where she went to Girl's State and graduated from Grant County Rural High School. She worked at Sullivan's Elevator weighing grain after high school.

On Feb. 5, 1944, she married John Douglas Lewis at Garden City. They moved to a ranch on the Calamus River Valley in Nebraska in March 1949.

Mrs. Lewis had been a member of Rebekah Lodge No. 635 in Ulysses since 1942, belonged to Valley View Ladies Club, Junior Matrons Club, and the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary since 1967. She joined the Methodist Church in Ulysses at an early age, was baptized in the Calamus River and then joined Burwell Methodist Church on June 2, 1965. She enjoyed cooking, being with her family, bowling, fishing, sewing and crocheting.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Ballagh and Patricia Mitchell, both of Amelia, Neb.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Edward, Norfolk, Neb.; three sisters, Virginia Roberts, Ulysses, Mary McCoy and Georgia Blalock, both of Bullhead City, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband died Nov. 5, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Douglas "Rusty" Lewis Jr.; and an infant brother, George Harvey.

Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 tonight at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to Cedar Creek Bible Church (Draperies) or the Burwell Community Fund (Library Improvement), both in care of Hitchcock Funeral Home, P.O. Box 871, Burwell, NE 68823.

Mac Lee McClaflin

SUBLETTE - Funeral for Mac Lee McClaflin, 62, of Sublette, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Southern Baptist Church, Sublette, with the Revs. Dan Pierce and Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will be in Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta.

Mr. McClaflin died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Satanta District Hospital.

He was born Aug. 17, 1938, at Newberg, Ore., the son of Merrill Mahlon and Cleora Mimble (Wild) McClaflin.

Mr. McClaflin was road foreman for the Haskell County Road Department, Sublette. A Sublette resident for 36 years, he attended Southern Baptist Church, was a member of Sublette American Legion Post No. 205 and Cimarron Valley Golf Association at Satanta, and served in the U.S. Air Force. An avid golfer, he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

On June 19, 1959, he married Shirley Yochum at Wellington. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Cindy Lozar, Satanta; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Fern Rice, Gresham, Ore., and Elaine Osborne, Downey, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to Cimarron Valley Golf Association at Satanta or the National Association of the Craniofacial Handicapped, both in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

Dove Rexroat

ULYSSES - Dove Rexroat, 91, of Ulysses, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at High Plains Retirement Village, Lakin, where she had been a resident.

She was born Dec. 10, 1909, in Grant County, the daughter of George Ralph and Ada Bell (Smethers) Rider. A lifetime resident, she was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

On Nov. 3, 1928, she married Everett Rexroat at Lakin. He preceded her in death as did her parents; a son, George Rexroat; two brothers, Columbus Rider and G. Ralph Rider; an infant brother; and two sisters, Ruby Mosher and Flossie Andes.

She is survived by three sons, Ramon Rexroat, Satanta, James Keith Rexroat and Howard Rexroat, both of Lakin; a sister, Thelma Frazee, Cimarron; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wesleyan Church, Lakin, with the Revs. Jeanette Post and Raymond Raley officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to High Plains Retirement Village, in care of the funeral home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, KS 67880.

Robert Paul Holdren

COOLIDGE - Robert Paul Holdren, 72, of Coolidge, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Syracuse.

He was born June 24, 1928, at Elkhart, the son of Paul and Jessie Mae (Hall) Holdren. He attended Coolidge High School, graduating in 1945.

A carpenter, Mr. Holdren owned and operated Holdrens' Carpet in Syracuse, along with his son, Dale Holdren. He enjoyed all kinds of sports, especially K-State activities, was an avid gardener and enjoyed doing yard work, traveling, country music and attending horse races.

On Aug. 17, 1947, he married Agnes Elizabeth Helm at Syracuse. They returned to Coolidge in 1958. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Dale Holdren, Syracuse; two sisters, Jeanne Bailey, Moses Lake, Wash., and Beth Helm, Junction City; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and an aunt. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Billy Holdren, on Jan. 31, 1982.

A viewing will take place from 9 to 9:45 a.m. MST Wednesday at Coolidge High School Gym, with the funeral beginning at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Jim Puckett officiating. A family luncheon will follow the service. Burial will be in Coolidge Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. MST today and Tuesday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse, with a flower card reading at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to the Coolidge Alumni Association or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878-1253.

Robert Paul Holdren

COOLIDGE - Due to inclement weather, the funeral for Robert Paul Holdren, 72, of Coolidge, has been rescheduled.

A flower card reading will begin at 8:30 a.m. MST Thursday at Coolidge High School Gym, viewing will take place from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m., with the funeral beginning at 10 a.m.

Visitation hours are until 8 p.m. MST today at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse.

Mr. Holdren died Jan. 13, 2001, at Syracuse.

Betty Ann (Klaus) Schaffer

Rosary for Betty Ann (Klaus) Schaffer, 56, will be 7:30 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home, LaCrosse. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, LaCrosse. Burial will be in LaCrosse City Cemetery.

Mrs. Schaffer died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at her home in LaCrosse.

She was born May 29, 1944, at Hays, the daughter of Nicholas and Louise Helen (Befort) Klaus. She graduated from high school at Hays.

A LaCrosse resident for 36 years, moving from Munjor, she was the owner of a convenience store. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.

On June 6, 1964, she married Dennis Schaffer at Liebenthal. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Calvin Schaffer, Eureka; three daughters, Gale Fischer, Ellis, LeAnn Woods, Garden City, and Sarah Burk, LaCrosse; two sisters, Mildred Klaus, Ellis, and Elsie Dreher, Hoisington; and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dean Klaus and Kenneth Klaus; and a sister, Patricia Beakey.

Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hays Hospice of Hays Medical Center or to the church, both in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 550, LaCrosse, KS 67548-0550.

Cornelia C. Matthews

Vigil service for Cornelia C. Matthews, 92, of Kinsley, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Kinsley. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Pius Tacaw officiating. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Matthews died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Medicalodge in Kinsley.

She was born Nov. 10, 1908, at Charleston, Ark., the daughter of Andrew and Katherine (Kilhoffer) Mahl. A longtime resident of Kinsley, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.

In February 1926, she married Theodore Kamphaus at Canute, Okla. He died Jan. 13, 1963. In 1949, she married Horace Matthews at Miami, Okla. He died in 1981. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and two grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Arnold Kamphaus, Kinsley, and George Kamphaus, Norman, Okla.; a daughter, LaRue Robinson, Garden City; six sisters; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to South Wind Hospice or St. Nicholas School Endowment Fund, both in care of McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley.
