Wilma L. Rich

Funeral for Wilma L. Rich, 68, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Kent Crockett officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Rich died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born June 6, 1932, at Vinita, Okla., the daughter of Lee and Ruby (Parks) Couch. She grew up and attended schools in Oklahoma before moving to Kansas when she was a teen-ager, residing in Garden City since the mid-1940s.

A homemaker, Mrs. Rich also worked several other jobs including running the bowling alley in Garden City, farming and taking care of her family. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma and enjoyed fishing, camping and raising animals.

On March 8, 1949, she married Arthur Legate at Garden City. He died in April 1950. On Dec. 10, 1951, she married John W. Rich Sr., at Santa Fe, N.M. He died Dec. 16, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Steven Rich and Ernest Rich; a daughter, Vickie Herring; and a brother, Leonard Couch.

She is survived by four sons, Mike Rich, Dodge City, Pete Rich, of Lawrence, John Rich Jr., Garden City, and Chris Rich, Cambridge, Neb.; five daughters, Linda Rowley, Cindy Nichols and Cheryl Frizzell, all of Garden City, Joyce Ahrens, Greensburg, and April Gomez, Dodge City; three sisters, Della Legate, Amarillo, Texas, LaDon Wilson, Portland, Ore., and Lillie Bennington, Claremore, Okla.; 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Summit of Garden City, in care of the funeral home.

Edna Marie York

HUGOTON - Edna Marie York, 86, of Hugoton, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

She was born Oct. 10, 1914, at Clyde, the daughter of Raymond and Mary (Slipsager) Domino.

A homemaker, Mrs. York had been a teacher for a few years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hugoton and Order of the Eastern Star at Ulysses.

On July 3, 1935, she married Robert Eutah York at Clyde. They moved from Holcomb to Hugoton in 1978. He preceded her in death as did her parents; a grandson; and a brother, L.M. Domino.

Survivors include a son, Ronald E. York, San Marcos, Calif.; a daughter, Karen R. Middlebusher, Daphne, Ala.; three sisters, Geraldine Shaw and Mildred Buche, both of Sun City, Ariz., and Jeanne Braddy, Manhattan; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Baily officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.

Carole A. Crook

Funeral for Carole A. Crook, 58, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Crook died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at her home in Garden City.

She was born Oct. 31, 1942, at Scott City, the daughter of Jesse James and Gladys Irene (Gill) Miller. She grew up in Tribune and graduated from high school there. She then moved to Leoti where she was a dental technician for Dr. Charles Purma.

In 1984, she moved to Garden City where she and her husband, Ron Crook, whom she had married on April 7, 1984, at Selkirk, were owner-operators of Crook Shoe Store.

Mrs. Crook attended the First United Methodist Church in Garden City. She enjoyed crafts, growing flowers, antiques, collecting porcelain shoes and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Monte Stewart, Belle Plaine, and Jim Crook, Garden City; two daughters, Cheryl Kucharik, Scott City, and Teri Crook Hensen, Castle Rock, Colo.; her mother, Tribune; two brothers, Harlan Miller and Daryl Miller, both of Tribune; two sisters, Juanita Grubb, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Bernice Kenneweg, Fredericksburg, Va.; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Windsor Hotel Preservation Alliance, both in care of the funeral home.

Elsie Delia Ratzlaff

SCOTT CITY - Elsie Delia Ratzlaff, 82, of Scott City, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where she had been a resident since 1994.

She was born Aug. 2, 1918, at Durham, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Shultz) Dirks.

A Scott County resident since 1943, moving from Fredonia, she had worked as a nurse's aide and enjoyed caring for her patients for many years. A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, making afghans, fishing and being with her family.

On July 11, 1935, she married Herman B. Ratzlaff at Syracuse. He died March 23, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Merrill, Gerald and Melvin; two brothers, Jesse Dirks and Abe Dirks; and two grandsons.

She is survived by eight sons, Chester A. Ratzlaff, Virgil D. Ratzlaff and Galen Ratzlaff, all of Scott City, Garry W. Ratzlaff, Garden City, Delbert Ratzlaff and Dr. Leonard Ratzlaff, both of Tulsa, Okla., Milford Ratzlaff, Lafayette, Colo., and Mike Ratzlaff, Russellville, Ark.; three daughters, Virginia F. Koehn, Montezuma, Joyce Koehn, Garden City, and Glenda Ryan, Scott City; five brothers, Marvin Dirks, Floyd Dirks, Albert Dirks Jr., Howard Dirks and Maurice Dirks, all of Scott City; four sisters, Elizabeth Koehn, McPherson, Norma Unruh, Galva, Lillian Schroeder and Willetta Payne, both of Scott City; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Scott Mennonite Church, Scott City. Richard Koehn, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc., Scott Mennonite Church or Scott County Hospital, all in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Ruhe E. Pringle

TRIBUNE - Ruhe E. Pringle, 78, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

She was born Jan. 15, 1923, at Belpre, the daughter of Herbert E. and Mayrella (Windhorst) Rudd. She attended school in Belpre and Tribune, graduated from high school in 1940, attended Bryan University in Dayton, Tenn., and graduated from Ottawa University in 1945 with a bachelor's degree in education.

A retired educator, she taught for more than 29 years, including many years in Tribune and five years at Garden City High School.

Mrs. Pringle was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, where she was a church elder, Presbyterian Youth Fellowship leader, and a member and officer of the Presbyterian Women.

She was a leader of the Straight Ahead Strivers 4-H Club, and belonged to Whitelaw E.H.U., Busy Bee Neighborhood Club, Federated Women's Progressive Club and the Delta Kappa Gamma teachers Organization.

On Dec. 7, 1943, she married Douglas R. Pringle at Tribune. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Bryce R. Pringle, Shenandoah, Iowa, and Dr. Scot G. Pringle, Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Janet M. Reeder, Lawrence; two sisters, Shirley J. Dixon, Tribune, and Patricia W. Jackson-Karr, Kerrville, Texas.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Pringle; and a grandson.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. MDT Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Charles Ayers officiating. Inurnment will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.

There will be visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Kansas University Endowment Association for the Robert Pringle Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune.

Ethan J. Gracey

HUGOTON - Funeral for Ethan J. Gracey, 84, of Hugoton, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Church of God, Hugoton, with the Revs. Bill Vincent and Joe Downs officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the VETS Group.

Mr. Gracey died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Tanglewood Oaks Guest House in Fort Worth, Texas.

He was born June 30, 1916, in Ellis County, Okla., the son of Lawrence L. and Grace (Swander) Gracey.

On May 10, 1941, he married Vernona M. Howe at Buffalo, Okla. They moved from Woodward, Okla., to Hugoton in 1947. She died Feb. 10, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Gracey had worked for Northern Natural Gas Co., and worked as a plumber for several years in Hugoton. He was a member of First Church of God and the VFW, and a former member of Kiwanis, all at Hugoton, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.

He is survived by a daughter, Judy Flummerfelt, Fort Worth; a sister, Florence Carter, Bozeman, Mont.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
