Anaclare "Annie" Winter

MARIENTHAL - Vigil service for Anaclare "Annie" Winter, 25, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marienthal. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Charles Mazouch officiating.

Miss Winter died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, in Wichita County.

She was born June 21, 1975, at Tribune, the daughter of J. Alan and Donna Jean (Burr) Winter.

A lifetime resident of Wichita County, with the exception of living in Oklahoma from 1989 until 1995, she was a veterinarian. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church at Marienthal.

She is survived by her father, Marienthal; her mother, Donna Jean Glenn, Gowen, Okla.; two brothers, Richard Winter, Gowen, and Aaron Winter, Marienthal; a sister, Renee Boydstun, Ada, Okla.; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Winter, Marienthal; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours are until 5 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the Leoti Emergency Medical Technicians, in care of the funeral home.

Vivan B. Koehn

MONTEZUMA - Funeral for Vivan B. Koehn, 91, of Montezuma, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland. Sam Unruh Jr. and Luther Smith, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite Cemetery, Copeland.

Mr. Koehn died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where he had been a resident for about four years.

He was born March 12, 1909, at Galva, the son of Ben and Ida (Unruh) Koehn.

A farmer, he had moved from Galva to the Copeland area in 1933. He was a member of Homeland Mennonite Church at Montezuma and a former member of Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland. He enjoyed his family and visiting with his many friends.

On March 12, 1933, he married Effie Loucks at Copeland. She survives. He is also survived by four sons, Lee Roy Koehn, El Campo, Texas, Weldon Koehn, Greeley, Colo., Alton Koehn, Detroit, Texas, and Willard Koehn, Flagstaff, Ariz.; two daughters, Elva Koehn, Ulysses, and Margaret Regehr, Post Falls, Idaho; a brother, Edwin Koehn, and a sister, Della Koehn, both of Moundridge; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eugene Koehn; five brothers, Pete Koehn, John Koehn, Tobe Koehn, Dan Koehn and Jonas Koehn; and three sisters, Mary Koehn, Alice Decker and Susie Unruh.

Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home, in care of Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Avis Lucille Jones

Avis Lucille Jones, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City.

She was born Sept. 28, 1913, on a farm about three miles east of Lewis in Edwards County, the daughter of Frederick Cornelius and Lilly Mae (Newton) Vanderree.

The family moved by covered wagon from the Lewis community to a farm in the Plymell community south of Garden City in the spring of 1916. She spent the remainder of her life in the Plymell and Garden City communities except for a brief period when she accompanied her husband to eastern Kansas.

She and Donald Ritter Jones had been married on Dec. 12, 1936, at Garden City. He died May 24, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Donald Wayne Vanderree and Frederick Dean Vanderree.

A homemaker, Mrs. Jones was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Optimist Club. She and her husband were involved with the Boy Scouts of America.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Jones, Dodge City, and Gary Jones, Iowa Falls, Iowa; three granddaughters; a grandson; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Optimist Club of Garden City or the church, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Robby Martin

Funeral for Robby Martin, 44, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with Dr. R. Michael Lake officiating. A private family burial will take place Saturday afternoon in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.

Mr. Martin died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

He was born Sept. 9, 1956, at Elkhart, the son of Lee and Jerry (Ellis) Martin, and grew up there.

A Garden City resident since 1997, he worked as a transportation driver for Destiny in Garden City. He was a member of the Council of Community Members, and enjoyed leatherwork and crafts.

He is survived by a sister, Sandra Predmore, Houston; a sister-in-law, Donna Glover, Oklahoma City; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother, Jerry Kester; and a brother, Ikie Martin.

Visitation hours are from 6 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Emmaus House or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home.

Henry R. Batchelder

Funeral for Henry R. Batchelder, 86, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert Cousins officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mr. Batchelder died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Sept. 15, 1914, at Garden City, the son of Guy and Pauline (Brock) Batchelder. He graduated from Garden City High School and attended Garden City Junior College.

After completing his education, he worked as a powerhouse operator at the sugar beet factory and later as a powerhouse operator at Wheatland Electric, retiring in 1977.

A lifetime Garden City resident, Mr. Batchelder was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and camping in Colorado in his younger days and later on he enjoyed gardening. He was also devoted to his family activities.

On Oct. 20, 1934, he married Pearl E. Collins at Syracuse. She died March 26, 1987. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emma Thompson; two brothers, Guy Batchelder and Dr. Theodore Batchelder; a grandson; and two great-granddaughters.

He is survived by a son, Gary Lee Batchelder, Holcomb; two daughters, Shirley Johnson, Lakewood, Colo., and Nancy Truax, Scott City; three brothers, Milo Batchelder, Venice, Calif., Wilbur Batchelder, Ulysses, and Thomas Alva Batchelder, Oklahoma; four sisters, Pauline Timmons, Denver, Lottie Gill, Culver City, Calif., Betty Woods, California, and Mary Largent, Garden City; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Eva E. Vale

Eva E. Vale, 71, of Dodge City, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Western Plains Regional Hospital in Dodge City.

She was born March 25, 1929, at Oklahoma City, the daughter of Elmer V. Atchley and Lucille (Weyman) Jones.

A Dodge City resident since 1974, formerly of Tulsa, Okla., and Colorado Springs, Colo., she was the co-owner of The Waterbed Shop in Dodge City.

Mrs. Vale was instrumental in forming several community organizations including the original Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Tulsa, the Crisis Center of Dodge City, and the Family Crisis Program of Garden City.

She was a member of the Community Concert Committee, a former member of the Women's Chamber of Commerce, a former board member of the Area Mental Health Center, a former member of the board of directors of the Family Planning Clinic, and a former elder of the Presbyterian Church, all at Dodge City. She was an active member of the Democratic Party and often assisted with voter registration.

On July 7, 1946, she married Delbert L. Vale at Columbus. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Derek and Daryl, both of Dodge City; two daughters, Dana Hornberger, Dodge City, and Denise Hardy, Manitou Springs, Colo.; a brother, Fred Davis, Tulsa; two sisters, Susie Berg and Greta Atchley, both of Tulsa; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cassandra Gale Vale; and a sister, Libbie Collins.

Private services are planned for later. There will be no public visitation. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Crisis Center, in care of Burkhart Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.

Martin F. Bauer

Prayer service for Martin F. Bauer, 86, of Ottawa, will be 7 tonight at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Steven Beseau officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa.

Mr. Bauer died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Olathe Medical Center.

He was born March 21, 1914, at Sharon, the son of George Aloysius and Christina L. (Gangler) Bauer.

He had lived in Ottawa since 1991, moving from Garden City where he had lived since 1951. Prior to that, he lived in several locations in Kansas and Colorado.

Mr. Bauer was a truck driver for most of his life, having owned his own trucking business hauling grain from 1968 until his retirement in 1982. He had previously driven for several companies including Ray Reed Oil Co., of Greeley, Colo., and Sunrise Oil Co., of Pueblo, Colo. During World War II, he hauled aviation fuel. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

On Sept. 9, 1940, he married Mabel Leota Meyer at Sharon. She survives. He is also survived by four daughters, Virginia Sullentrup, Washington, Mo., Darlene Smith and Lois Bauer, both of Lawrence, and Eileen Jewell, Dodge City; a son, Kenneth Bauer, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; a sister, Laura Aufleger of Sharon; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, William C. Bauer, Joseph V. Bauer, Lawrence Bauer and Aloysius George Bauer.

The family will receive friends at 7:30 tonight at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, the Arthritis Foundation or the American Parkinson's Disease Association, all in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.
