Jack M. Hooker

Funeral for Jack M. Hooker, 70, of Dodge City, was 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Dodge City, with Larry Williams officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.

Mr. Hooker died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Western Plains Regional Hospital in Dodge City.

He was born Nov. 23, 1930, at Wichita, the son of Ralph and Lula (Miles) Hooker. He graduated from Kansas State University.

A Dodge City resident since 1992, he was a cattle buyer, managed feed lots, owned and operated motels and was a salesman for Royal Purple Oil Co. He was a member of First Christian Church of Dodge City, volunteered for the Dodge City Senior Center, Senior Friends and belonged to the Moose Lodge.

On Dec. 26, 1949, he married Beverley K. Huber at Wichita. She survives. He also is survived by three sons, Mark, Amarillo, Texas, Scott, Austin, Texas, and Jay, Winchester, Calif.; a daughter, Holly Rainier, Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Verna Lee Daniel and Nadean Nuckolls, both of Wichita; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the Dodge City Senior Center, both in care of Burkhart Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.

Gerald Wayne Dye

Gerald Wayne Dye, 60, of Garden City, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Tuttle Dye, Garden City; three sons, Gerald Dye, Tray Johnson and Justin Johnson, all of Garden City; a daughter, Cindy Roland, Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, John Dye, Oakhurst, Okla., and Bill Dye, Dodge City; two sisters, Bert Bernett, Okmulgee, Okla., and Nancy, Arizona; and four grandchildren.

Funeral was to be today at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sapulpa, Okla. Burial was to follow in Mounds (Okla.) Cemetery.

James Reynolds Garetson

MONTEZUMA - James Reynolds Garetson, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at his home in Montezuma where he had resided since November 1996.

He was born Jan. 22, 1922, in the family home in northeast Haskell County, the son of James Davies and Laura Magdalena (Reynolds) Garetson.

A lifetime resident of the area, he was a farmer and stockman, with farming being an important part of his life. He also served as the secretary for Providence Grain Board. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Copeland, and a former school board member of Copeland and Colusa schools. He enjoyed his family activities, playing cards and dominoes, and supported many school athletic events.

On Aug. 19, 1944, he married Martha Loucks at Copeland. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Jesse James Garetson, Copeland; six daughters, Chloe Rita Dohrmann, Ensign, Debra Henley, Melanie Penner and Shelly Baldwin, all of Wichita, Kerri Batman, Great Bend, and Andrea Cearley, Sublette; two brothers, L. Miner Garetson, Copeland, and Robert "Red" Garetson, San Antonio; a sister, Mary Bell, Milan, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Garetson, Paul Garetson and Howard Garetson; and two sisters, Marjorie Waldron and Wanda McManus.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the junior high school gymnasium in Copeland, with the Rev. Warren Cico officiating. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 tonight and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Montezuma Community Hall-Senior Center, the United Methodist Church of Copeland, Copeland Santa Fe Senior Center or the donor's choice, all in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Frances Jewell Patton

HUGOTON - Frances Jewell Patton, 81, of Hugoton, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.

She was born Sept. 8, 1919, at Golden, Mo., the daughter of Ray Charles and Pauline (Roberts) Sisco.

On Dec. 16, 1941, she married Aubry R. Patton at Exeter, Mo. They moved from Vilas, Colo., to Hugoton in 1947. He died Aug. 20, 1981. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers, Paul, Bob, Rod, Bill and Johnny Sisco.

Mrs. Patton cared for elderly people in Hugoton and cooked for the Senior Citizens at Hugoton for 10 years. She attended First Christian Church of Hugoton, was a member of the Glow Worm Band and a former member of Rebekah Lodge, both at Hugoton. She enjoyed spending time with her family and making handmade gifts for them, and also enjoyed music and dancing.

Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Lee Phillips, Springdale, Ark., Robert Patton, Amarillo, Texas, and Charles Patton, Cooper, Texas; a daughter, Judy Sapp, Hugoton; a brother, James Sisco, Raytown, Mo.; two sisters, Helen Spain, Monett, Mo., and Louise Crim, Gladestone, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Larry Bradford officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Karen D. Lausch

DIGHTON - Graveside service for Karen D. Lausch, 44, will be 11 a.m. Friday in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City, with the Revs. Martin Gauby and Wilford Crist officiating.

Miss Lausch died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

Born Oct. 20, 1956, at Garden City, she was the daughter of Roy E. and Anita F. (Houck) Lausch. She received a master's degree in business administration from Wayland Baptist University and had a bachelor's degree in nursing.

Miss Lausch was a resident of Scott City until moving to Littlefield and Albany, Texas, where she lived for more than 12 years. She moved to Dighton in November 2000 and was the director of nursing at Lane County Hospital in Dighton. She was a member of Prairie View Church of the Brethren at Friend and belonged to the National Nursing Association.

Survivors include her mother, Scott City; a brother, Kyle Lausch, Scott City; four sisters, Lavona Kuhn, Burlington, Sherrie Berry, Robin Henderson and Lynne Palen, all of Scott City; eight nephews; and five nieces. She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to Lane County Hospital, in care of the funeral home.

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Riddiough

LEOTI - Elizabeth "Lizzie" Riddiough, 96, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at the Wichita County Long Term Care Unit in Leoti.

She was born March 18, 1904, in Rush County, the daughter of Carl and Mary (Koriel-Koochel) Kiefer.

A homemaker, she had been a Wichita County resident since 1917. She was a member of Parks Presbyterian Church in Wichita County and the VFW Auxiliary at Leoti.

On Oct. 1, 1924, she married Ralph Riddiough at Leoti. He died Aug. 18, 1971, at Tribune. She also was preceded in death by three children, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and four brothers.

Survivors include five sons, Lee, Leoti, Ralph, Nixa, Mo., Milton, Scott City, Robert, Smithville, Ga., and William, Springfield, Mo.; three daughters, Vera Ford, Leoti, Marjory Peine, Nixa, and Bonnie Weaver, Tucumcari, N.M.; four sisters, Luvina Talbott, Oakley, Lucy Perry, Sharon Springs, Lillie Hicks, McAlester, Okla., and Leatrice Lane, Tribune; 28 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parks Presbyterian Church in northern rural Wichita County, with the Rev. Paul McNall officiating. Burial will be in Carwood Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 3 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the church or Wichita County Long Term Care Unit, both in care of the funeral home.

Leone M. Wright

Funeral for Leone M. Wright, 87, of Oakley, will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Oakley Christian Church, with the Rev. Bob Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mrs. Wright died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Logan County Hospital in Oakley.

She was born April 28, 1913, at Colony, Okla., the daughter of Leon and Myrtle Challis.

A Kansas resident since 1919, she lived in Russell Springs before moving to Oakley in 1959. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakley Christian Church.

On June 18, 1932, she married J. Elva Wright at Garden City. He died March 14, 1991. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frank Challis; and a sister, Vera Estes.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Wright, Scott City, James Wright, Hoxie, and Gary Wright, Aurora, Colo.; a daughter, Alene Sheldon, Rogers, Ark.; a sister, Virginia Heuvel, Klamath Falls, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley. Memorials are suggested to the church or Logan County Hospital, both in care of the funeral home, Box 221, Oakley, KS 67748.
