Herman Joseph Frank

Herman Joseph Frank, 69, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at his home in Limon, Colo.

He was born July 8, 1931, at Marienthal, the son of Joseph and Germaine Frank. He grew up in Marienthal and in Garden City.

A self-employed contractor, Mr. Frank was retired. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Cathedral of Dodge City and Our Lady of Victory of Limon, a lifetime member of the VFW and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean War. His hobbies included gardening and fishing.

On June 20, 1955, he married Velma Leikam. She survives. He is also survived by his children, Jim Frank and JoAnn Ratzlaff, both of Limon, Kathleen Coval, Dodge City, John Frank, Chicago, and Tom Frank, Thornton, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Konecny, Cimarron; nine grandchildren; five sisters, Armella Brown, Liberal, Anna Marie Carter, Dallas, Lenora Bird, Wichita, Marcella Ochs, Warsaw, Mo., and Marina Roth, Garden City; and a sister-in-law, Martha Frank, Garden City. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gilbert and Edward; a sister, Louise Burghardt; and a son, Joe.

Prayer vigil and rosary was Tuesday, with the funeral Mass on Wednesday, both at Our Lady of Victory, Limon. The Revs. Bill Rhinehart and Rich O'Brien officiated.

Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church or the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center of Aurora, Colo., both in care of Love Funeral Home, Box 188, Limon, CO 80828.

R.L. Schroeder

HUGOTON - Funeral for R.L. Schroeder, 52, of Farmington, N.M, will be 3 p.m. today at Cope Memorial Chapel, Farmington. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hugoton Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating.

Mr. Schroeder died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington.

He was born Feb. 5, 1949, at Liberal, the son of James E. and Esther Schroeder.

Mr. Schroeder worked for the Road Machinery Company for 26 years, most recently as the branch service manager in Farmington.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; a son, Lee Schroeder, Prescott, Ariz.; four daughters, Mary Ann Schroeder and Kristen Schmitz, both of Phoenix, LaDonna Espejo, Hampton, La., and Kathleen Figuere, Farmington; his mother, Hugoton; three brothers, Dennis Schroeder, Carrollton, Texas, Kim Schroeder, Hugoton, and Loyd Schroeder, Topeka; his grandmothers, Margaret Pearce and Joyce Schroeder, both of Hugoton; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Marsha.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Esther Mae Miller

SCOTT CITY - Esther Mae Miller, 72, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

She was born June 17, 1928, at Guide Rock, Neb., the daughter of Leeman Jonas and Ethel B. (Baily) Lundsteadt.

A resident of Scott City since 1958, moving from Peoria, Ill., she was a homemaker. She belonged to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and American Baptist Women.

On Sept. 14, 1955, she married Lloyd P. Miller at Clayton, N.M. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Galen Miller and Henry Miller, both of Scott City; five daughters, Claudine Williams, Ulysses, Charlotte Spinks, Lubbock, Texas, Carolyn Murphy and Bina Wishon, both of Scott City, and Donna Melies, Salina; a brother, Elmer Lundsteadt of Ellis; a sister, Ellen Nickel, Scott City; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandsons and a brother.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Southern Baptist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Robert Nuckolls officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to the church or Park Lane Nursing Home, both in care of the funeral home.

Vernon Dirks

MONTEZUMA - Funeral for Vernon Dirks, 79, of Montezuma, will be 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Homeland Mennonite Church, Montezuma. Sherrill Esau, Lyndon Toews and Luther Smith, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in North Mennonite Church Cemetery, Montezuma.

Mr. Dirks died Thursday, May 24, 2001, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in rural Montezuma.

He was born Sept. 21, 1921, at Montezuma, the son of Samuel and Susie (Schmidt) Dirks.

A Montezuma resident with the exception of 15 years in Vernon County, Mo., he was a farmer and cattleman. He was a member of Homeland Church Of God in Christ Mennonite, Montezuma.

On Sept. 27, 1942, he married Marjorie Koehn at Montezuma. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Donald Dirks, Walker, Mo., and Oran Dirks, Schell City, Mo.; two daughters, Delores Koehn, Montezuma, and Patricia Schmidt, Chickasha, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Laverna Mae and Alice Rose; two brothers, Walter and Henry Dirks; five sisters, Mabel Koehn, Clara Koehn, Myrtle Koehn, Frances Koehn and Virginia Koehn; and one great-grandchild.

Friends may sign the register from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Gospel Tract & Bible Society or to Bethel Home, both in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Ada I. Albrecht

Funeral for Ada I. Albrecht, 79, will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Stafford Cemetery, Stafford.

Mrs. Albrecht died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

Born April 6, 1922, at Stafford, she was the daughter of Penumbra A. and Grace (Langdon) Newell. After graduating from Stafford High School, she attended Kansas State University, and graduated from Colorado State University with a master's degree.

She began her teaching career at Ensign, and later taught at Holcomb before moving to Garden City in the late 1950s and teaching home economics at Abe Hubert Middle School. She retired in 1984.

Mrs. Albrecht was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed spending time with friends.

On Dec. 26, 1977, she married Victor C. Albrecht at Garden City. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Tim Bell, Las Vegas; three daughters, Carolynn Vandenbosch, Carbondale, Pa., Robin Nielsen, Aurora, Colo., and Amanda Travers, St. George, Utah; two sisters, Alma Mae McMichael, Garden City, and Christine Murphy, Stafford; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Alice Newell and Evelyn Newell.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Korean Veterans Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Mollie Helen Lovell

ULYSSES - Mollie Helen Lovell, 83, of Great Bend and formerly of Ulysses, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Integrated Health Services in Great Bend.

She was born April 13, 1918, at Hudson, the daughter of Wade Horace and Julia Ann Clarke.

Mrs. Lovell had been a Great Bend resident since 1997, having previously lived in Ellinwood since 1954. A homemaker, she was a member of First Church of God and the Ladies Missionary Group, both at Great Bend.

On Sept. 27, 1941, she married W.W. "Jay" Lovell at Wichita Falls, Texas. He died July 25, 1998. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Alma Clarke, Dora Delker and Ollie Pickerill; a daughter, Elaine Libby; and a brother, Wayne Clarke.

She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Joan Tallman, San Jose, Calif., and Lilly Quirk, Arvada, Colo.; two brothers, Fred Clarke, Morena, Calif., and David Clarke, Ellinwood; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was 2 p.m. April 28 at First Church of God, Great Bend, with the Rev. Richard Ogle officiating. Burial was in Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John.

Memorials are suggested to First Church of God, 1224 Baker, Great Bend, KS 67530.

Minnis Chapel, St. John, was in charge of arrangements.

Don Moser

SUBLETTE - Don Moser, 62, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at his home in Sublette.

He was born May 2, 1939, at Greeley, Colo., the son of Albert and Alice (King) Moser.

On June 9, 1956, he married Roberta Stucker at Garden City. They moved from Scott City to Sublette in 1958. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and playing dominoes and cards, especially pitch. Music was a part of his life and he enjoyed listening to country and gospel, played the guitar and had his own band. He also enjoyed caring and playing with his Brittany dogs.

For many years he leveled land in southwest Kansas and Oklahoma and was also a roofer and electrician in those areas for many years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the North American Hunting Club and the AAA Association.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kenneth Moser and Stanley Moser, both of Sublette; two daughters, Susan Howard, Dighton, and Dianna Moser, Garden City; his stepfather, Ernest Baker, Goodland; three half brothers, Michael Baker, Sharon Springs, Ernest Baker, Copeland, and James Baker, Lakeport, Mich.; two sisters, Joan Regnier, Harlingen, Texas, and Janet Nelson, Copeland; a half sister, Deborah Lucas, Sharon Springs; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Juanita Moser.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Christian Church, Sublette, with the Rev. David Erwin officiating. Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
