Amalia "Molly" Rodriguez

Vigil service for Amalia "Molly" Rodriguez, 79, of Garden City, will be 6:30 tonight at Burkhart Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Dodge City, with the Rev. Ted A. Skalsky officiating. Burial will be in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City.

Mrs. Rodriguez died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

She was born July 19, 1921, at El Paso, Texas, the daughter of Luciano and Maria (Rodriguez) Lopez.

A longtime Dodge City resident before moving to Garden City in 1998, she was a nurse's aide for the nursery at St. Anthony Hospital in Dodge City, retiring in 1971 after 19 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Garden City, a past founding member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Dodge City, and a member of Legion of Mary.

On March 17, 1942, she married Guadalupe N. Rodriguez at Dodge City. He died Oct. 7, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Norberta Perez; four brothers, Simon, Agruelio, Lewis and Jesus; and a sister, Concepcion Blea.

Survivors include two daughters, Ramona Neri, Garden City, and Lydia Gilbert, Littleton, Colo.; four brothers, Pete Lopez, Meade, Manuel Lopez, Vista, Calif., Joe Lopez, Bradenton, Fla., and Roger Lopez, Dodge City; four sisters, Consuelo Chacon and Gloria Lopez, both of Dodge City, Della Scata, Vista, and Annie Torrez, Bradenton; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Visitation hours are until 6:30 tonight at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Cathedral Building Campaign or the Leukemia Society of America, both in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.

Leslie "Jake" Jacobs

Funeral for Leslie "Jake" Jacobs, 66, of Wichita, was 10 a.m. Monday at Westlink Christian Church, Wichita.

Mr. Jacobs died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Wichita.

He was born Jan. 13, 1935, at Victoria, the son of Ned and Louise (Hermann) Jacobs. He grew up in the Garden City area.

Mr. Jacobs served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Sergeant First Class.

He is survived by a son, Jack K. Jacobs, Olathe; a daughter, Dianna Hathaway, Goddard; a brother, Jack L. Jacobs, Wichita; two sisters, Dianna Caldwell, Liberal, and Patty Obholz, Dallas; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Westlink Christian Church, 8810 W. 10th St., Wichita, KS 67212.

Downing & Lahey Mortuary West Chapel, Wichita, was in charge of arrangements.

Ezra Joel Aeschliman

MONTEZUMA - Funeral for Ezra Joel Aeschliman, 90, of Montezuma, was to be 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church, Montezuma, with the Rev. Gene Eshleman officiating. Burial was to be in Morningside Cemetery, Montezuma.

Mr. Aeschliman died Friday, May 11, 2001, at his home.

He was born Jan. 25, 1911, in Davis County, Iowa, the son of Elias "Jack" and Addie Allie (York) Aeschliman. The family moved to western Kansas when he was 16.

A farmer, he enjoyed his family activities. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Montezuma.

On Sept. 7, 1935, he married Valetha A. Becker at Montezuma. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Tommy A. Aeschliman, Cimarron; two daughters, Anita A. Caudill, Grove, Okla., and Merna D. Smith, Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Marion Aeschliman, Holly, Colo.; a brother-in-law, Alvin B. Koehn, Montezuma; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Addie Malee, Mary Jane and Katie Marie Aeschliman; and two sisters, Katie Marie Aeschliman and Anna Lee Koehn.

Memorials are suggested to the church or Meade Home Care Montezuma Sector, both in care of Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Charles O. Dizmang

LEOTI - Charles O. Dizmang, 66, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at his home in Leoti.

He was born Dec. 25, 1934, at Tribune, the son of Charles O. Jr. and Beulah (Ingraham) Dizmang.

A Leoti resident since 1966, he had worked as a machinist at Samsonite, a partsman at Big A Auto Parts in Leoti, and had more recently been a driver for Renzenberger Livery Service.

Mr. Dizmang was a member of the VFW and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, earning a Purple Heart.

On Oct. 14, 1954, he married Patricia Jane Lauber at Tribune. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Gregory Scott Dizmang, Leoti; four daughters, Belinda Gail Bauck, Boulder, Colo., Patricia Ann Harrison, Golden, Colo., Debra Kay Henessey, Jacksonville, Fla., and Kimberla Sue Kite, Scott City; six brothers, Ronnie, La Junta, Colo., Jim and Bob, both of Wichita, Jack, Leoti, Harold, Garden City, and Donnie, Nickerson; two sisters, Deana Paramore, McPherson, and Lilly Swartz, Sharon Springs; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune, with the Rev. Rick Woolard officiating. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Detail.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the St. Catherine Home Health Hospice Program, in care of the funeral home.

Gordon Eugene Wellen

ELKHART - Funeral for Gordon Eugene Wellen, 64, of Elkhart, was to be 10:30 this morning at First Baptist Church, Elkhart, with Dewy Harris officiating. Burial was to follow in Elkhart Cemetery.

Mr. Wellen died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Elkhart.

He was born Sept. 1, 1936, at La Junta, Colo., the son of Cecil Stanton and Girlene (Davison) Wellen, and grew up in Springfield, Colo.

As a young man he began working with an old horse trader named Homer Bishop. He later did some custom farming in southeast Colorado before joining the U.S. Navy where he served two year and was a ship's cook on an escort destroyer. After leaving the Navy, he returned to Springfield and took up where he left off with his horse trading and custom farming.

On Nov. 1, 1958, he married Carolea Griffin at Walsh, Colo. They lived south of Springfield for about two years before moving to Elkhart and opening the Rumuda Western Store on Main Street. They also supplied the merchandise for another western store in Syracuse.

Throughout his life, Mr. Wellen was trading and working with horses and he would put on rodeos. He built the Stockyards Arena, an indoor arena in Elkhart, and also performed custom cattle care and worked at the sale barn in Elkhart. He loved horses and the lifestyle that went with them, and also enjoyed horse and dog races as well as listening to country music.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Clayton, Elkhart, Duke, Alva, Okla., and Ace, Brush, Colo.; his mother, Girlene Bixler, Englewood, Colo.; a brother, Charles Bixler, Englewood; three sisters, Phyllis Johnson, Pueblo, Colo., Nonie Gier, Austin, Texas, and Dixie Cogburn, Happy, Texas; a grandson; and three stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one granddaughter.

Memorials are suggested to the Elkhart Senior Center, in care of Harrell Funeral Home, Elkhart.

Donna L. Hiesterman

Donna L. Hiesterman, 74, of Quinter, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Gove County Medical Center.

Born at Garden City on June 30, 1926, she was the daughter of Theodore and Anna (Heidemann) Drees. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1944, attended St. John's College in Winfield and then taught in Lutheran parochial schools for six years.

On Aug. 20, 1950, she married Dr. Herman W. Hiesterman. In 1952, they moved to Quinter, where she was active in church activities, community musical programs and Girl Scouts, and was a member of the local bridge club and Athenaeum Club. She served as president of the Kansas Medical Society Alliance from 1970 to 1972. She was a church organist for more than 50 years and choir director for several years at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Oakley.

She is survived by her husband; three sisters, Dolores Boehnke, Kansas City, Wanda Krentz, Plano, Ill., and Ramona Robert, Lombard, Ill.; a son, Grant, Burnsville, Minn.; a daughter, Amy Peterson, Wheaton, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Quinter Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Theodore E. Cook officiating. Burial will be in Quinter Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Schmidt Funeral Home, Quinter. Memorials are suggested to Lutheran Social Services at Wichita or the Quinter Ambulance Service, both in care of the funeral home.

Dugan E. O'Halloran

Dugan E. O'Halloran, 89, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village, Garden City. He was a former Lakin resident.

Mr. O'Halloran was born on Dec. 10, 1911, in Reno County, the son of Thomas M. and Mabel (Davis) Halloran.

He lived most of his life in Lakin and western Kansas. He had been a resident of Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City since 1979. He worked as a ranch hand before his retirement.

He married Wilma E. Garrison on Sept. 15, 1937, at Leoti. They were divorced.

Survivors include a daughter, Marla Kaye Temaat, Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Patrick Halloran of Wichita, and Robert Halloran of Topeka; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Jeane Baldwin.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Lakin, with the Rev. Mike Helms officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

A memorial have been established for Garden Valley Retirement Village in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 508 N. Main St., Lakin, KS 67860.
