C. Elbert Feaster

Graveside service for C. Elbert Feaster, 77, of North Richland Hills, Texas, and formerly of Oxford, was to be 10 this morning in Oxford Cemetery, with the Rev. Wayne Handle officiating.

Mr. Feaster died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Harris Methodist Hospital in Bedford, Texas.

He was born Sept. 30, 1923, at Wichita, the son of Clarence Everett and Lydia Viola (Gold) Feaster. The family moved to Oxford in 1933 and he graduated from Oxford High School before attending Southwestern College in Winfield. He later joined the U.S. Army and served in World War II, earning the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Mr. Feaster owned and operated the Sand & Gravel Company in Oxford for many years, retiring in 1991 and moving to Texas in 1992.

While in Oxford, he was active in numerous community, church and school activities including being a lifetime member of the Purple Heart and the 70th Infantry Division, a member of the Oxford School Board, Lions Club, VFW, and the Elks clubs of Winfield and Wellington.

He served on the board of Riverview Manor, was a youth coach, a member of the Wellington Babe Ruth Association, president of the Kansas Aggregate Producers Association, and a board member of Oxford Christian Church and Oxford Methodist Church.

He had served on the city council, belonged to Winfield Country Club and Wellington Golf Association and was an announcer for the Oxford High School athletic events.

On June 30, 1946, he married Doris Conley. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Mark, Garden City, and Vance, North Richland Hills; a daughter, Dana Bertrand, North Richland Hills; two brothers, J.D. Feaster, Wellington, and Max, Wichita; a sister, Audrey Barron, Hemet, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church, Oxford Christian Church, Oxford Catholic Church or the American Legion of Oxford, all in care of Hawks Memorial Chapel, 906 W. Kansas Ave., Arkansas City, KS 67005.

Rita M. Hoskinson

Rita M. Hoskinson, 85, of Concord, N.H., died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at the Concord Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Winthrop, Mass., she was the daughter of Daniel and Irene (Kelly) Kelcher. She graduated from Winthrop High School in 1934 and from Leslie College in 1937 with a degree in education.

She began her teaching career in 1940 at Center School in Winthrop where she taught first grade until 1945. From 1955 to 1960, she owned and operated the "Miss Rita" kindergarten at Rose Circle in Peabody, Mass. She then went on to teach at the South Memorial and West schools in Peabody until her retirement in 1978.

Mrs. Hoskinson had lived in Peabody from 1952 until moving to Concord in 1998. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, Peabody Senior Citizens, Golden Age Club and the Insight Club in Marblehead, Mass.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Hoskinson, Garden City, and J. Vincent "Shawn" Hoskinson, Salem, Mass.; a daughter, Sally Hoskinson-Kelly, Chichester, N.H.; two grandchildren; a nephew; a niece; and a cousin. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Hoskinson; and two siblings, Daniel Kelcher and Aline Gillespie DeVlaminck.

Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, was in charge of arrangements.

Eva Robrahn

LAKIN - Eva Robrahn, 96, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.

She was born Nov. 22, 1904, at Bethany, Mo., the daughter of Thomas and Amanda (Bruff) Dodge. When she was a child, the family traveled by covered wagon, staying for a short time in Oklahoma before moving to their homestead in Hamilton County. She attended the Dodge School in Hamilton County and later graduated from Lakin High School.

On Nov. 16, 1925, she married Earnest August John Robrahn at Syracuse, and they moved to their farm west of Lakin. They then lived in Redlands, Calif., for a short time before returning to the farm in Kearny County. They moved to Lakin in 1979.

Mrs. Robrahn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, the Birthday Club, and Golden Agers at the Kearny County Senior Center, and was active in the Democratic Party. A homemaker, she enjoyed fishing, rock collecting, cooking and handiwork.

Her husband died Dec. 19, 1983. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Gloria Robrahn; a brother, Edgar Dodge; and two sisters, Clara Lewis and Edna Tebo.

She is survived by a daughter, Myrna L. Greer, Buena Park, Calif.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Lakin, with the Rev. Juanita Wiseman officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 508 N. Main St., Lakin, KS 67860.

Dorothy Gladys Stout

DIGHTON - Funeral for Dorothy Gladys Stout, 89, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Revs. Mike and Kerry Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Stout died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at the Lane County Long Term Care Unit in Dighton.

She was born May 8, 1911, at McCracken, the daughter of Henry Fayette and Martha Jane (Neal) Whipple, and was a graduate of Beeler High School.

She taught school for a short time before marrying Herbert H. Stout on June 29, 1930, at Beeler. They lived in Finney and Ness counties before moving to Dighton in 1953.

Mrs. Stout was a member of First Christian Church of Dighton, Willing Workers Sunday School class, Christian Quilters Group, J.O.Y. Center, Stitch & Chatter Club and the Bronco Club Campers, and was a former member of Spring Creek EHU. A farm wife and homemaker, she enjoyed quilting, fancy work, crocheting and gardening.

Her husband died Sept. 13, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Glen Monroe Whipple and Virgil Thomas Whipple; a sister, Opal Birdsong; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

Survivors include two sons, Lee Stout, Haysville, and Ronald Stout, Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter, Donna Whipple, Beeler; two sisters, Velma Wancura, Dighton, and Ethel Detter, Defiance, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Valta V. VanHoozer

ULYSSES - Graveside service for Valta V. VanHoozer, 93, will be 2 p.m. Friday in Ulysses Cemetery, with the Rev. Eddie Palmer officiating.

Mrs. VanHoozer died Monday, April 30, 2001, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

She was born May 11, 1907, at Englewood, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Hosley) Klotz. A longtime resident of Kearny County, she was a homemaker.

On Jan. 4, 1953, she married Arvin Ray VanHoozer at Roswell, N.M. He died in 1969. She was also preceded in death by four children, Dale, Pete, Alta and Frank Carter; three sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Carter, Ulysses, and John Carter, Kendall; three daughters, Nancy Boyd, Genoa, Colo., Wanda Dahlquist, Bartlesville, Okla., and Ruby Campbell, Manter; a brother, Henry Klotz, Lone Tree, Texas; two sisters, Florence McGuire, Palm Springs, Calif., and Vivian Keith, Applevalley, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials to the donor's choice may be sent in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.

Leona N. Holmes

Leona N. Holmes, 74, of Geneseo, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Hutchinson Hospital.

She was born Nov. 14, 1926, at Frederick, the daughter of Benjamin F. and Ola M. (Newman) Ontjes. She graduated from Bushton High School and Hutchinson Junior College, and attended Fort Hays State College, Kansas State University and Sterling College.

A lifetime resident of the Frederick and Geneseo areas, she was a homemaker and school teacher. She belonged to the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both at Geneseo, and was a 50-year member and past worthy matron of the Eastern Star of Geneseo and Lyons.

On July 27, 1947, she married Jimmie Holmes at Frederick. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Toby Holmes, Deerfield; three daughters, Pam Robinson, of Emmett, Melode Huggans, Geneseo, and Robyn Day, Liberal; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Geneseo, with the Revs. Janet Weathersbee and Gene Langhofer officiating. Burial will be in Geneseo Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home, 214 W. Avenue South, Lyons, KS 67554.
