Eugene F. Showman
Memorial service for Eugene F. Showman, 81, of Fort Dodge, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Fort Dodge Chapel, with the Rev. Dick Robbins officiating. Inurnment will be in Kansas Soldiers Home Cemetery, Fort Dodge, with full military graveside rites conducted by Howard Gottschall VFW Post No. 1714.
Mr. Showman died Friday, July 20, 2001, at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Fort Dodge.
He was born Oct. 12, 1919, at Sabetha.
A Fort Dodge resident since 1990, moving from Garden City, he was a self-employed finish carpenter. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Italy as a medical technician. He was a life member of the VFW and American Legion, belonged to AMVETS and the Disabled American Veterans, and was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Garden City.
On Jan. 12, 1980, he married Mae Morgan at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Clinton Bulkley, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Pat Fenton, Spring, Texas, and Betty Kells, Manhattan; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Clyde Bulkley.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Kansas Soldiers Home, in care of Burkhart Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
Irene Ada Hoover
Funeral for Irene Ada Hoover, 88, of Hays, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Bazine, with the Rev. Randall Jahnke officiating. Burial will be in Ransom Cemetery.
Mrs. Hoover died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center in Hays.
She was born Jan. 19, 1913, at Bison, the daughter of Pete and Sophia (Krug) Kleweno.
A homemaker, she was a former resident of the Bazine community for many years. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and the Neighborhood Ladies Club, both at Bazine.
On Oct. 12, 1932, she married Lester Hoover at Bison. He survives. She is also survived by three daughters, Vivian Kraft, Garden City, Sylvia Ogle, Richland, Mo., and Brenda Nuchalls, Florissant, Mo.; a son, Eugene Kleweno; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Alma Schneidewind, Vera Slagle and Joanne Kleweno; and two brothers, Raymond and Leo Kleweno.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. Memorials are suggested to the Ransom Senior Center, in care of the funeral home.
Eric E. Carpenter
Funeral for Eric E. Carpenter, 35, a former Garden City resident, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita.
Mr. Carpenter, an officer with the Wichita Police Department, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at his home in Wichita.
He was born Oct. 1, 1965, at McCook, Neb.
He is survived by his wife, Shawnna; three sons, Andrew of Tyler, Texas, Devin and Evan, both of the home; a daughter, Alyssa, of the home; his parents, Carroll and Joye Carpenter, Casa Grande, Ariz.; and his grandfather, Paul Miller, Kearney, Neb. He was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Carpenter.
Memorials are suggested to the Trust Fund for the Carpenter Children, in care of the mortuary, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209.
Jack E. Carpenter
HOLCOMB - Jack E. Carpenter, 83, of Hollister, Mo., died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, Mo.
He was born May 28, 1918, at Collins, Mo., the son of William Lovell and Mary Mae (Baumgarden) Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter worked as a farmer most of his life. He moved to the Hollister area 10 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Esther, whom he married on Aug. 19, 1938; a daughter, Judy Ann Litton, Holcomb; a son, Dennis Lee Carpenter, Branson, Mo.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Vernon Carpenter, Kansas City, Mo.; and three sisters, Elsie Epperson of Collins, Ruth Hemingway, Hermitage, Mo., and Ann Sheets, Bartlesville, Okla.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday in Robinson Cemetery
at Collins, with the Rev. Ralph Denham officiating.
Cremation was under the direction of Whelchel Funeral Chapel, Branson.
Charlotte G. Parks
Charlotte G. Parks, 82, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Jan. 16, 1919, at Plains, the daughter of Alfred L. and Dollie B. (Cook) Huffman. She graduated from Montezuma High School.
A Garden City resident since 1949, she formerly worked for Norris Drug Store where she sold and demonstrated cosmetics.
Mrs. Parks was a charter member of Bible Christian Church of Garden City and belonged to the Senior Center of Finney County. She enjoyed playing the organ, cooking and spending time in the mountains.
On Jan. 17, 1938, she married Aubrey L. Parks at Lakin. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Donovan Parks, Portland, Ore., and Aubrey A. Parks, Garden City; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson; and a sister, Zora Flynn.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Mark Ingmire officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Montezuma.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Bible Christian Church, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Norbert Joseph Kraus
Norbert Joseph Kraus, 89, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born July 17, 1912, at Ost, the son of Joseph and Matilda (Young) Kraus. The family moved from Ost to Ransom when he was 4 years old.
After completing his schooling in Ransom, he farmed and also ran a grocery store and hatchery in Ransom. In 1953, he moved to Garden City and became assistant manager of Wall's IGA. He later worked in the maintenance department of St. Catherine Hospital. After his retirement, he did painting for Garden City Community College.
Mr. Kraus was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. His special interests were coin collecting, collecting caps, woodworking, home improvement projects and playing cards.
On July 23, 1938, he married RosaLea O'Neill at Ransom. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Sheila Davis, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Debbie Voth, Wichita; two sons, Joseph Kraus, Santa Fe, N.M., and Dennis Kraus, Lawrence; a brother, Hugo Kraus, Ransom; a sister, Marcella Lutters, Ransom; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.
Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to St. Dominic Catholic Church or Garden Valley Retirement Village, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Kenneth L. Dillon
Memorial service for Kenneth L. Dillon, 61, was Saturday at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home, Aurora, Colo., with the Rev. George Loring officiating.
Mr. Dillon died Monday, July 9, 2001, at his home in Lake Elsinore, Calif.
He was born July 24, 1939, in Finney County, the son of Gerald E. and Alice (Bechelmayr) Dillon. He graduated from Garden City High School.
Mr. Dillon served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961. After leaving the Navy, he was a carpenter for more than 30 years in Colorado and California.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberley Macon, Blackwell, Texas; two sons, Marshall and Chris, both of Littleton, Colo.; a brother, John E. Dillon, Chandler, Ariz.; three sisters, Mary L. Thompson, Nederland, Texas, Virginia M. Dillon, Wichita, and Georgia Miller, Garden City; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
