Rowena F. Fahring

Johnson CITY - Rowena F. Fahring, 73, of Johnson City, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

She was born Jan. 28, 1928, at Salina, the daughter of Paul and May Rockhold.

A Johnson City resident since 1978, Mrs. Fahring had worked as a secretary for Johnson Grade School.

On July 7, 1946, she married Mark Fahring at Salina. He survives. She is also survived by four daughters, Carol Fahring, Fort Collins, Colo., Bonnie Ryan of the Philippines, Peggy Miller, Springfield, Mo., and Sharon Anderson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Cecil Rockhold, Grant Pass, Ore., and Kenny Rockhold, Abilene; a sister, Thelma Hines, Topeka; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Paul Rockhold.

Inurnment and services will be conducted later in Minneapolis, Kan., with the Rev. Don Hines officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the Rowena F. Fahring family, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, Box 715, Johnson City, KS 67855.

Mary Jane Peters

HUGOTON - Mary Jane Peters, 71, of Liberal, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Dec. 20, 1929, at Lexington, Neb., the daughter of Richard and Adelaide (Yeo) Commins.

On Aug. 17, 1952, she married Alvin Carson Peters at North Platte, Neb. He died Aug. 31, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Earl Commins; and her parents.

A homemaker, Mrs. Peters had also worked for Alco Discount Store, was president of Peters Cleaning Service and Panestakers, and had been employed at the Spur Motel. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Liberal.

She is survived by three sons, Larry Peters, Liberal, James Peters, Wallkill, N.Y., and Kenneth Peters, Vicksburg, Miss.; four daughters, Carol Arguello, Lamar, Colo., Cheryl Peters and Patricia Peters, both of Liberal, and Janet Gibson, Dodge City; three brothers, Roy Commins, Lexington, Dean Commins, Warsaw, Mo., and Martin Commins, Durand, Mich.; a sister, Ruth Macomber, Hastings, Neb.; and six grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Hugoton Cemetery. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Liberal, with Robert Forks officiating.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today through Friday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.

Ali Gian

A private Islamic funeral prayer service for Ali Gian, 81, was 8 a.m. Sunday at Community Congregational Church, Garden City. It was followed by an Islamic burial service in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City. Dr. Mike Lake officiated at both services. Arrangements were made by Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette.

Mr. Gian died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

He was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Tashkandt, Russia, the son of Seyyed Mohammed Gian and Natalia (Dimitrovna) Zibaii. In 1931, he moved to Mashad, Iran.

On March 17, 1947, he married Fahimeh Navaii in Tehran.

Mr. Gian was an electrical engineer and career military officer in electronic communications in the Iranian army. He retired in 1969.

In December 1978, the family moved to Lawrence, and in February 1979, they moved to Garden City. In August 1980, Mr. Gian and his sons purchased Naab Electric Inc. and were in business together until 1996 when he retired.

He is survived by his wife ,of the home; two sons, Mike and Frank, Garden City; two granddaughters; one grandson; and one brother, Ata Zeeba, Wayne, N.J.

Mr. Gian enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid reader.

Memorials are suggested to the Finney County Public Library for the purchase of children's books.

G. Eugene Sager

SCOTT CITY - G. Eugene Sager, 78, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

He was born April 26, 1923, in Scott County, the son of Jess D. and Lillian C. (Huston) Sager.

A lifetime resident of Scott City, he worked for Weishaar Drilling for more than 43 years and then was the owner and operator of Sager Pump Service.

On Sept. 20, 1955, he married Shirley I. Lundblade at Garden City. She died July 16, 1999, at Scott City. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include a daughter, Susie Heslop, Scott City; two sons, Darrell Sager, Liberal, and Charles Sager, Scott City; a brother, Lester Sager, Jetmore; and six grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Scott City, with the Rev. John Warring officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to Scott County Hospital - Home Health, in care of the funeral home.

LeRoy "Bud" Warner

ULYSSES - LeRoy "Bud" Warner, 66, of Ulysses, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

He was born Oct. 4, 1934, at Syracuse, the son of George Clifford and Thelma Margaret (Dyck) Warner.

A lifetime area resident, he moved from the Menno community to Ulysses in 1969. He was a farmer and had also worked at LNR Fertilizer and EFD Freight, did custom cutting and enjoyed helping other area farmers during harvest. He was a member of Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses.

On Jan. 25, 1953, he married Betty Buhrer at Syracuse. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Doug Warner, Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Rita Gee, Ulysses, and Judy Dieker, Iola; a brother, Garry Warner, Sikeston, Mo.; a sister, Pat Scott, Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Nadine Warner; and a brother, Larry Dean Warner.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the Grant County Museum or the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.

William Bernard "Bill" Feldt

Funeral for William Bernard "Bill" Feldt, 58, of Hoxie, was to be 10 this morning at St. Frances Catholic Church, Hoxie, with the Rev. Benjamin Saw officiating. Burial was to follow in St. Frances Catholic Cemetery near Hoxie. A vigil service was to be 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Mr. Feldt died Friday, July 13, 2001, at Sheridan County Hospital in Hoxie.

He was born Feb. 18, 1943, near Menlo, the son of William and Martha (Dickman) Feldt.

On Aug. 9, 1967, he married Verlene Heier at Grainfield. They moved from Garfield to Hoxie in 1970. A teacher, he retired on July 1, 2001.

Mr. Feldt was a member of St. Frances Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Hoxie Elks Lodge where he served as secretary for 30 years. He was a former board member of the Kansas Elks Training Center for the Handicapped, Kansas Business Education Association, National Business Education Association and the Sheridan County Education Association.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Brice, Topeka, Brent, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Brian, Hoxie; a daughter, Lori Wheat, McPherson; two brothers, Tom Hamer, St. Louis, and Mike Hamer, Chicago; three sisters, Karen Dawson, Garden City, Kathy Weigel, Oakley, and Mary Hamer Burnett, Liberty, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the church, the Bill Feldt Memorial Scholarship for Hoxie High School, or the Hoxie Elks Lodge, all in care of Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie.

Darrell Edward "Boobie" Smith

Funeral for Darrell Edward "Boobie" Smith II, 19, of Manhattan, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Mass-Hinitt Funeral Chapel, Junction City, with the Rev. Mervyn E. Hammond officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Junction City.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita from injuries suffered in a construction accident June 29 near Council Grove.

Born Jan. 7, 1982, at Manhattan, he was the son of Darrell Edward Smith Sr. and Faith Hayes.

He lived most of his life in Manhattan, with the exception of a few years in Hutchinson. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 2000, and was a student at Garden City Community College, where he majored in elementary education and played basketball. He was working construction during the summer.

Mr. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson and belonged to the YMCA in Garden City.

He is survived by his mother, Manhattan; his father, Cincinnati; his grandmother, Betty Jean Smith-Thomas, Cincinnati; his stepgrandfather, Charles E. Thomas, Cincinnati; two brothers, William Edward Smith and Stewart Austin Smith, both of Manhattan; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John E. Smith; and his grandmother.

Memorials are suggested to the Smith family, in care of Fort Riley National Bank, 429 W. 18th St., Junction City, KS 66441.
