Dale I. Rohrbough

SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Dale I. Rohrbough, 75, was to be 2:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Lynne Smith officiating. Burial was to be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mr. Rohrbough died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.

He was born Aug. 7, 1925, in Logan County, the son of Gay E. and Lila (Boatman) Rohrbough.

A Scott City resident since 1962, moving from Logan County, he was a farmer and custom cutter. He was a member of the Christian faith and was a former Logan County school board member.

On Feb. 23, 1952, he married Irene P. Chvilicek at Marienthal. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Galen and Lonnie Rohrbough, both of Scott City, and Jimmy John Rohrbough, Garden City; four daughters, Kathy Gregory, Assaria, Dalene Haynes, Snoqualamie, Wash., Jeannie Moore, Larned, and Karla Sauseda, Garden City; a brother, Elton Rohrbough, Oakley; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Earl; and a sister, Vera Davis.

Memorials to the Dale I. Rohrbough Memorial Fund may be sent in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 401 Washington St., Scott City, KS 67871.

Pearl L. Jay

LEOTI - Funeral for Pearl L. Jay, 89, will be 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Rick Just officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.

Mrs. Jay died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at the Wichita County Long Term Care Unit in Leoti.

She was born Feb. 19, 1912, at Dresden, the daughter of Notley and Addie May (Milburn) Broyles.

A homemaker, she was a former grade school cook and ran a day care center out of her home before her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

On June 5, 1949, she married E. Merle Jay at Dodge City. He died Oct. 28, 1998, at Leoti. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, six brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Omer Miller, St. George, Utah, and Dennis Jay, Littleton, Colo.; a brother, Lauren Broyles, Logan; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the Wichita County Long Term Care Unit or the church, both in care of the funeral home.

Richard Baier

SPEARVILLE - Vigil service for Richard Baier, 56, of Spearville, will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville, with the Rev. John Maes as celebrant. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with military graveside rites conducted by the Garden City Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Mr. Baier died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in Holcomb.

He was born April 10, 1945, at Racine, Wis., the son of Anton and Eleanor (Prevo) Baier. He graduated from Holcomb High School, Garden City Community College and from Fort Hays State University with a master's degree in industrial arts.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War, stationed mostly in Hawaii.

On June 6, 1970, he married Ellen Coen at Garden City. They moved to Spearville in 1973.

Mr. Baier worked as an industrial arts teacher in Spearville for 15 years, worked as a handyman in Spearville, and delivered the Dodge City newspaper to residents in the Spearville community.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville, the Knights of Columbus of Spearville and served for the last nine years as a school board member for Spearville schools.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Scott Baier, Wichita, and Brandon Michael Baier, Mulvane; a daughter, Jill Suzanne Turek, Phillipsburg; his mother, Garden City; six brothers, Albert, Tony Jr. and John, all of Garden City, Robert, Wichita, Gary and Bill, both of Holcomb; three sisters, Carolyn Benton, Kansas City, Mary Ann Metz, Joplin, Mo., and Dorothy Fairchild, Okmulgee, Okla.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Tom; and a sister, Anita Savolt.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or St. Catherine Hospice, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Anna Elliott

She was born Dec. 6, 1913, at Sugar City, Colo., the daughter of George and Mary Elizabeth (Steinmetz) Grauberger. When she was young, the family moved to a farm north of Deerfield. She attended Deerfield schools.

On June 9, 1936, she married Leland Elliott at Syracuse. They farmed north of Deerfield until retiring and moving into Deerfield in 1975. He died July 14, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George, Henry and Carl Grauberger; and five sisters, Katie Ploeger, Marie Uhrich, Elizabeth Boxberger, Lydia Bisterfelt and Mollie Hanneman.

Mrs. Elliott was a lifelong member of Immanual Lutheran Church of Deerfield and Lakin. Her special interest was her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking, canning and gardening. In her earlier years, she played the piano in a band.

Survivors include two sisters, Eva Hanneman, Fort Collins, Colo., and Pauline Sturgen, LaJunta, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Clara Wynn Grauberger, Deerfield, and Claudine Grauberger, Fort Collins; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanual Lutheran Church, Lakin, with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to the church or High Plains Retirement Village, both in care of the funeral home.

Ella Augusta "Gussie" (Naylor) Lear

CIMARRON - A memorial service for Ella Augusta "Gussie" (Naylor) Lear, 89, and Oliver Glen Lear, 93, is planned for later this month in Cimarron.

Mrs. Lear was born Dec. 3, 1910 at Cimarron, the daughter of Ethel and Cary Naylor. She attended Kansas State University, majoring in home economics, and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority.

Mr. Lear was born Aug. 1, 1907, at Stafford, the son of Eli and Harriett Lear. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1930 with a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics. He was a member of Farm House fraternity as well as Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Zeta honorary fraternities.

The Lears married March 1, 1931. He was employed from 1927 to 1952 with the Wearever Division of Alcoa Aluminum serving as a salesman, supervisor and manager of the New England states in Boston.

Mr. Lear was founder and chairman of the board of directors of Fluid Regulators Corp., Painesville, Ohio, from 1953 to 1968 and was founder and president of Sarasota Precision Products Inc. in Florida from 1956 to 1968. He was the recipient of the Governor's Industry Appreciation Award in 1967 in recognition of his contribution to the advancement of industry in Florida. He was also president of the National Fluid Power Association.

Mrs. Lear was a member of the Sarasota Orange Blossom Garden Circle Club. She received awards for competitive floral arranging and was instrumental in initiating horticultural therapy for individuals with developmental disabilities at Easter Seals of Sarasota.

The Lears spent many years traveling to various countries and gave to organizations and agencies devoted to conservation of wildlife and the environment. They were members of The Field Club of Sarasota and the Nokomis (Fla.) United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Lear died May 24, 2000. She is survived by a sister, Julia McKibbin of Jetmore. Mr. Lear died Jan. 31, 2001. He is survived by a sister, Carolyn Reid of Lenexa. They are also survived by several nieces and nephews including Donald Lear of Garden City and Cary Henderson of Lakin.

A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. July 23 at the United Methodist Church, Cimarron, followed by inurnment in Cimarron Cemetery.

Lena G. "Lee" Osterbuhr

Lena G. "Lee" Osterbuhr, 87, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born Sept. 6, 1913, at Hildreth, Neb., the daughter of John and Hilke (Weber) Fuerst. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Hildreth which allowed her to attend Hastings (Neb.) Teachers College.

On Feb. 14, 1936, she married Clarence Osterbuhr at Hildreth. She taught elementary school in Hildreth for five years. In 1950, she and her husband moved to Garden City where she became a partner and served as bookkeeper of the business they started, Anamo Co. Inc. She retired in 1975.

Mrs. Osterbuhr was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She had a lifelong pursuit of music and played the organ and piano. She and her husband also enjoyed collecting antique glassware.

Her husband died April 28, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Al, John, Fred and Jerry Fuerst; and three sisters, Katie Lippstreau, Emma Costley and Hilda Anderson.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Osterbuhr, Garden City; a daughter, Gloria Sanders, Topeka; and four grandsons.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City, with the Rev. Tom Rishel officiating.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Garden City Head Injuries Program, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
