Louise Wampler

Funeral for Louise Wampler, 93, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Miss Wampler died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

She was born April 28, 1908, at Garden City, the daughter of Erastus O. and Lelia (Stout) Wampler. She attended Columbia University in New York City and graduated from Fort Hays State University.

A lifetime resident of Garden City, she was a retired school teacher. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City and the Kansas State Teachers Association.

Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Wampler and Martha Morris, and a brother, Clinton Wampler, all of Garden City; two nieces; two great-nephews; and one great-niece. She was preceded in death by a brother, John E. Wampler.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Sunshine Nursing Agency, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.

Leon E. Scheuerman

DEERFIELD - Leon E. Scheuerman, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

He was born Jan. 9, 1921, at Bison, the son of Henry E. and Katherine D. (Bisterfeldt) Scheuerman.

A Deerfield resident since 1923, moving from Bison, he was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Deerfield, the American Hereford Association, Hampshire Swine Association, and the Kansas Livestock Association. He owned and exhibited registered Hampshire swine and Hereford cattle at national, regional and state shows.

Mr. Scheuerman was a charter member of the Deerfield Lions Club, belonged to the Kansas City Historical Society, was a 4-H club leader and a deputy game protector, held district livestock judging school for 19 years and was a lifetime member of the International Society of Germans from Russia of Lincoln, Neb.

On Aug. 22, 1943, he married Nelle Jane Mathias at Deerfield. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Roger Scheuerman, Fredrick, Okla.; three sisters, Eloris McAfee, Garden City, Betty Kroeger and Mabel Abbey, both of Houston; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rodney "Tink" Scheuerman; and two brothers, Calvin Scheuerman and Elmer Bisterfeldt.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Richmond Graham officiating. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 3 to 8 tonight and noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Emmaus House or Finney County Public Library, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.

Frank H. Snyder

SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Frank H. Snyder, 87, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Scott City, with the Rev. John Warring officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mr. Snyder died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

He was born June 22, 1914, at LaCrosse, the son of Richard and Flora (Miller) Snyder. He went to school in Grigston. During his grade school years, he raised and broke Shetland ponies to sell until he made enough to buy his first car, a Model T.

On June 2, 1934, he married Kathleen Ray at Scott City. He then purchased a farm east of town from his father where they raised their family. He started one of the first feedyards in Scott County in 1954, and was a farmer and stockman until retiring and moving to town in 1983.

Mr. Snyder was a member of Anthem Masonic Lodge No. 284 at Scott City, Isis Shrine Temple at Salina, Shrine Club - York Consistory, Kansas Livestock Association and the Scott County Historical Society and was a former member of the Grigston School Board.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Ray Lee Snyder, Salt Lake City; a daughter, Bylle Snyder, Los Angeles; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Nikki.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or El Quartelejo Museum, both in care of the funeral home.

Dennis G. Burrows

HUGOTON - Dennis G. Burrows, 49, of Hugoton, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born May 28, 1952, at Liberal, the son of George Jr. and Jewell (Higgins) Burrows.

A lifetime Hugoton resident, he was a farmer. He was a member of First Christian Church of Hugoton, a former member of the Hugoton Jaycees, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed camping, fishing and watching his children play sports.

He is survived by a son, Jonathon Burrows, and two daughters, Amber Perez and Brenda Burrows, all of Hugoton; his parents, Hugoton; a brother, Kenneth Burrows, Hugoton; two sisters, Shirlene Hagler, Dodge City, and Lori Rome, Hugoton; his companion, Pat Presley, Perryton, Texas; a stepgrandchild; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Revs. Jeff Aenk and Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Hugoton Cemetery.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home, 423 S. Main St., Hugoton, KS 67951.

Louzell Lenore Giles

Funeral for Louzell Lenore Giles, 100, of Garden City and formerly of Haskell County, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Plymell Union Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Ray Raley officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Giles died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

She was born Nov. 15, 1900, at Tonganoxie, the daughter of Robert and Emma Freeman.

On June 8, 1921, she married Charles L. Giles at Tonganoxie. They farmed in Haskell County, retiring in 1969 and moving to Garden City. He died in May 1983. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Vera Marie; and a son, Marvin Giles, who was killed in Belgium in World War II.

Mrs. Giles was a member of Plymell Union Church. She loved flowers, especially roses and pansies, crocheting and had started china painting at age 80. She was also active in farm and china clubs.

Survivors include four daughters, Maxine Ellsaesser, Sublette, Ruth Weidensaul of Augusta, Marjorie Roxstrom, Sea View, Wash., and Nita McDaniel, Garden City; two sons, Gary Lee Giles, Seaford, Va., and Charles Giles, Wichita; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to Plymell Union Church or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

Lillian M. Fuller

TRIBUNE - Vigil service for Lillian M. Fuller, 92, will be 5 p.m. MDT Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune. Funeral will be 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tribune, with the Revs. Charles Mazouch and Michael Helm officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.

Mrs. Fuller died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Eventide Convalescent Center in Topeka.

She was born May 17, 1909, at Waynesburg, Ky., the daughter of Joseph Nicholas and Catherine Mary (Mettzer) Lucius.

A Greeley County resident since 1930, she had been the owner and operator of the Fuller Cafe in Horace, retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society and the Progressive Club, all at Tribune.

In 1931, she married Charles Fuller at Tribune. He died in 1951 at Garden City. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, five brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Wineinger, Tribune, and Donna Boxley, Columbia, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund or Greeley County Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.

George E. "Buster" Button

LAKIN - Graveside service for George E. "Buster" Button, 89, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Copeland Cemetery, Copeland, with the Rev. Robert Cousins officiating.

Mr. Button died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.

He was born March 22, 1912, in Gray County, the son of George Henry and Martha May (Gingrich) Button. He graduated from high school in Knowles, Okla.

Mr. Button farmed and ranched with his father before moving to the Copeland area in 1945 where he was a farmer and stockman. In 1974 he moved to Tahlequah, Okla., to retire near the lake. He moved to Lakin in 1996.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cookston, Okla., was past Noble Grand of I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 677 of Copeland and belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Plains. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, livestock, pets and being around people.

On Sept. 4, 1937, he married Audrey Elizabeth Hart at Laverne, Okla. She died Oct. 29, 1984. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Florence Nelson.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Cramer, Lakin, and Sue Ann Spikes, Garden City; a sister, Mabel Jackson, Garden City; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to High Plains Retirement Village or the humane society, both in care of the funeral home.
