Frances (Koehn) Nichols

COPELAND - Funeral for Frances (Koehn) Nichols, 90, of Montezuma, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland. Milton Unruh and Steve Unruh, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite Church Cemetery, Copeland.

Mrs. Nichols died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.

She was born Feb. 16, 1911, at Durham, the daughter of Jesse and Rachel (Jantz) Koehn. The family lived in Sitka before moving to Haskell County in 1918.

Mrs. Nichols was a former resident of the Salem community, Copeland, and was a member of Salem Mennonite Church.

On Oct. 23, 1932, she married Noah Nichols at Copeland. He died May 25, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joyce Wiebe; and two brothers, Leslie and Clemen Koehn.

She is survived by eight sons, Manford, Sublette, Howard, Ulysses, Milton, Elkton, S.D., Clayton and Wilferd, both of Copeland, Chester and Lester, both of Garden City, and Milferd, Dalhart, Texas; two daughters, Valetta Koehn, Sublette, and Velda Wadel, Greensburg; a sister, Gertrude Regehr, Grandview, Idaho; 34 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc. or Montezuma Home Health, both in care of Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Gladys McEuen

Funeral for Gladys McEuen, 86, will be 4 p.m. today at Cooper-Sorrells Chapel, Bonham, Texas, with Larry Stephenson and Irby McKnight, pastors, and Ronnie Ball officiating. Burial will follow in Arledge Ridge Cemetery.

Mrs. McEuen died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001.

She was born Nov. 9, 1914, at Ravenna, Texas, to J.J. and Betty (Parker) Hyatt, and graduated from Ravenna High School.

A homemaker, she attended Mulberry Assembly of God Church and then became a member of First Assembly of God Church in Bonham in 1951.

On Sept. 5, 1936, she married Tom McEuen at Achille, Okla. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Billy McEuen, Fairfield, Calif., and Gary McEuen, Nacogdoches, Texas; five daughters, Joyce McGill, Chickasha, Okla., Dean Blackerby, Randolph, Texas, Linda Leonard, Garden City, Joann Perkins, Onalaska, Texas, and Theresa Howery, Bonham; a sister, Glennie Finley, Lancaster, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a granddaughter and a great-grandson.

Dick Beymer

LAKIN - Funeral for Dick Beymer, 83, will be 4 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Lakin, with the Revs. David Bolz and Steve Dinkel officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.

Mr. Beymer died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Oct. 1, 1917, at Santa Fe in Haskell County, the son of C.E. and Ethel M. (Jones) Beymer. The family moved to Kearny County when he was 6. After graduating from Lakin High School, he majored in agriculture at Fort Hays State University.

As a young man he herded cattle for local ranchers and later became a farmer/stockman in Kearny County. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lakin, and enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, as well as bowling and watching sporting events.

On June 22, 1941, he married Alberta Fulks at Wichita. She died Sept. 7, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Butch Beymer.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Beymer, Hutchinson, and Jere Max Beymer, Lakin; a daughter, Margaret Ann Beymer, Liberal; two brothers, Elton and Clyde Beymer, both of Lakin; a sister, Cledythe Brandon, Wichita; and three grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to Man Adventures, in care of the funeral home.

Victor C. Albrecht

Victor C. Albrecht, 75, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.

He was born Nov. 10, 1925, at Natoma, the son of Detrich and Pauline (Maier) Albrecht. He grew up on a farm near Natoma and attended school at Natoma.

Mr. Albrecht served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He returned to the area after his discharge and managed a Ready Mix company in Hays for many years. He moved to Garden City in 1977. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Natoma, and enjoyed his garden, his trees and working around the house.

On Dec. 26, 1977, he married Ada I. Newell at Garden City. She died May 23, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Survivors include a son, Tim Bell, Las Vegas; three daughters, Carolyn Vandenbosch, Carbondale, Pa., Robin Nielsen, Aurora, Colo., and Amanda Travers, St. George, Utah; five sisters, Mae Westover and Rita MacKenzie, both of Denver, Ida Elliott, Natoma, Dorothy McCarthy, Houston, and Mabel Summerdorf, White Sulphur Springs, Mont.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Stafford Cemetery, Stafford.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Korean Veterans Memorial, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Constance Lee Hutchison

A memorial service for Constance Lee Hutchison, 60, of Fort Collins, Colo., will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, Fort Collins.

Mrs. Hutchison died at her home Tuesday, July 31, 2001, after a 16-month battle with cancer.

She was born Nov. 30, 1940, at Johnstown, Colo. She graduated from Brighton (Colo.) High School in 1959, and from Colorado State College (University of Northern Colorado) in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.

On June 5, 1965, she married Kenneth Hutchison at Brighton.

An educator for most of her life, Mrs. Hutchison taught at Columbine Elementary School in Fort Morgan, Colo., and at Dunn and Moore elementary schools in Fort Collins before beginning the United Methodist Pre-School in Fort Morgan.

She took on the role of director of Brush (Colo.) Community Pre-School in 1979 and served in that role until 1994 when the school was closed. In 1993, she began Brush Head Start and served as the director of the program until the fall of 1994. She then substitute taught in Morgan County before serving as assistant director of Thompson Valley Pre-School in Loveland, Colo. She retired from teaching in 1999 when she and her husband purchased Vern's Liquor in LaPorte, Colo.

Mrs. Hutchison was involved in many volunteer activities including Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Rankin Presbyterian Church Sunday School and Morgan County 4-H.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Ann Hutchison, Garden City, and Robyn Hutchison, Fort Collins; her mother, Lydia Fisher, Fort Collins; a sister, Anita Hildebrand, Fort Collins; a brother, Frank Fisher, Atlanta; and two sisters, Bonnie Niece, Greeley, Colo., and Donna Fisher, Albuquerque, N.M. She was preceded in death by her father, Jacob Schmidt Jr.

Memorials are suggested to the Fort Morgan United Methodist Pre-School Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, CO 80524.

Albert E. Miller

LAKIN - Vigil service for Albert E. Miller, 81, will be 7 tonight at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Lakin. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Mike Helms as celebrant. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.

Mr. Miller died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

He was born Sept. 23, 1919, at St. Vincent, Ark., the son of Joseph P. and Marie (Hepp) Miller. He attended school in St. Vincent before moving to Lakin when he was 17.

Mr. Miller farmed and raised cattle for many years in Kearny County and then worked for the Lakin Co-op for 14 years and then at Kearny County Feeders for 11 years.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he served as an eucharistic minister and lector, and was a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, reading, playing cards and working as the custodian for the church hall.

On Dec. 8, 1939, he married Alberta Witman at Lakin. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Barbara Shelden, Garden City, and Louise Miller, Lakin; a son, Al Miller Jr., Garden City; a sister, Barbara Burgener, Cairo, Ill.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Glenda Church; three sisters; and three brothers.

Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Parkinson Foundation, both in care of the funeral home.

Lloyd Lester Fellers

SYRACUSE - Funeral for Lloyd Lester Fellers, 78, of Syracuse, will be 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at the Wesleyan Church, Syracuse. A second service is scheduled for 10 a.m. MDT Friday at the Congregational Church in Flagler, Colo., with the graveside committal service to follow in Flagler Cemetery.

Mr. Fellers died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

He was born Jan. 9, 1923, at Kismet, the son of Floyd Rollin "Roll" and Mary Mable (Morris) Fellers. He was raised on the family farm at Kismet and graduated from Kismet High School in 1941.

Mr. Fellers served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 in Japan and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign as a seaman first class. He received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.

He lived in Hugoton from 1946 to 1952 and farmed in the Kismet, Moscow and Hugoton areas with his father and brothers.

On Nov. 23, 1951, he married Vera Lesley at Hugoton. In 1952, they moved to their farm north of Flagler, where he was a wheat farmer and rancher until retiring in 1985.

He lived in Parachute, Colo., from 1985 to 2000, and spent the winters in Phoenix. In July 2000, he moved to Syracuse to live with his son.

Mr. Fellers attended the Tree of Life Fellowship Bible Studies in Syracuse, was a member of the VFW and American Legion, served on the Flagler School Board from 1968 to 1974, belonged to the Congregational Church of Flagler and was a board member of Flagler Farmers Co-op. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and eating lunch with them at the Syracuse VIP Center, eating watermelon, square dancing, traveling abroad, playing pool and cards, being entertained by children and especially enjoyed being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Hugoton; two sons, Leslie Jay Fellers, Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Donald Fellers, Syracuse; two daughters, Charlotte Joan Fellers, Renton, Wash., and Carol Anne Craig, Maple Valley, Wash.; two sisters, Ruby Pearl Lewis, Liberal, and Mary Elizabeth Lewis, Kismet; two brothers, Carl Wesley Fellers and John Rollin Fellers, both of Hugoton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ellen Iona "Onie" Miller-Parnell; four brothers, Archie Paul Fellers, Theodore Leroy "Ted" Fellers, William Andrew "Bill" Fellers and Glen Morris Fellers; his twin brother, Floyd Chester Fellers; and an infant brother, Leslie Bernard Fellers.

Visitation hours are until 8 MDT tonight at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse, and from 5 to 8 p.m. MDT Thursday at the Congregational Church in Flagler. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878-1253.
