Christine B. Winfield

Funeral for Christine B. Winfield, 83, a longtime Russell resident, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel, Russell, with the Rev. Kelly Taylor Schaus officiating. Burial will be in Dorrance City Cemetery.

Mrs. Winfield died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Wilson Nursing Center in Wilson.

She was born June 2, 1918, at Dubuque, the daughter of Harry and Emma (Kaufman) Kneale. She lived much of her early life in the Dorrance and Wilson area, and graduated from Dorrance High School.

In 1939, she married Dean Buehler.

A homemaker, she had also worked as a clerk in a department store. She had lived in Russell for the past 20 years, becoming a resident of the nursing home in Wilson only in the past few weeks. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Russell.

Survivors include a son, Lynn Buehler, Plant City, Fla.; two daughters, Nancy Peirano, Garden City, and Deanna Baugh, Minneapolis, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation hours are until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Wilson Nursing Center, in care of the mortuary, 610 N. Maple St., Russell, KS 67665.

Clarence A. Tucker

SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Clarence A. Tucker, 94, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Community Christian Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Jeff Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mr. Tucker died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, in Chandler, Ariz.

He was born Aug. 7, 1907, in Marshall County, the son of David Theron and Safronia Mae (Stedman) Tucker.

A lifetime resident of Scott City before moving to Arizona in 1999, he was a farmer. He was a member of Community Christian Church, Scott County VIP Center and the Prayer Breakfast Community.

On April 28, 1929, he married Susan Jane Scott at Scott City. She died March 17, 1995, at Scott City. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dwayne; a brother, Jim; and two sisters, Dolly and Ella.

Survivors include three sons, Dean and Mick Tucker, both of Chandler, and Richard, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Mae Vincent, Woodland, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Community Christian Church or the Scott County VIP Center, both in care of the funeral home.

Myrtle (Loucks) Dunham

COPELAND - Myrtle (Loucks) Dunham, 87, of Dodge City and formerly of Copeland, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Trinity Manor Nursing Home, Dodge City, where she had been a resident.

She was born Oct. 29, 1913, in McPherson County, the daughter of Jesse and Carrie (Becker) Loucks.

On Sept. 25, 1934, she married Ralph L. Dunham at Pratt. They raised their family near Copeland where they farmed. Mrs. Dunham also served as a 4-H leader for many years and was active in Haskell County Extension, spending many hours working at the Haskell County Fair.

In 1968, the family moved to Pueblo, Colo. for several years before moving to Garden City, where she resided until moving to Dodge City in 1996. Her husband died April 30, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Loucks; a sister, Samantha Loucks; and a son-in-law.

While living in Garden City, Mrs. Dunham worked at Sweetbrier Clothing Store and did custom sewing. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing and quilting, and she had made more than 500 Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy dolls. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include four sons, Jack, Plains, Don, Copeland, Larry, Solgohachia, Ark., and Joe, Dodge City; a daughter, Kitty Birney, Sunrise Beach, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Ora, Montezuma, Alva, Tucson, Ariz., David, Copeland, Walter, Mesa, Ariz., Harvey, Hereford, Ariz., and Leo, Wichita; and six sisters, Mildred Brown, Copeland, Effie Koehn and Martha Garetson, both of Montezuma, Frances Peterson, Greensburg, Mary Jo Parker, Coldwater, and Charlotte Sawyer, Loveland, Colo.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Copeland. Warren Cico and Gib Botten, pastors, will officiate. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today through Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to the Copeland Santa Fe Senior Center, the United Methodist Church of Copeland, Hospice of the Prairie of Dodge City or the donor's choice, all in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

Dr. Roger Chenot Troup

Johnson CITY - Funeral for Dr. Roger Chenot Troup, 79, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Johnson City. Burial will be in Walsh (Colo.) Cemetery.

Mr. Troup died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson City.

He was born Dec. 15, 1921, at Akron, Ohio, the son of a minister, Dr. William Edgar and Odessa Pearl (Chenot) Troup. He grew up in Akron, graduated from Kenmore High School and earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry at Wheaton College in Illinois.

While serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he earned his medical degree from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He graduated in June 1947 and did his internship at Akron General Hospital where he also later did surgical residencies. He received a diploma in tropical medicine from the University of Liverpool, England, in 1949.

He became an ordained minister at Goss Memorial Church in Akron in 1949. He was a medical missionary with the Sudan Interior Mission, an interdenominational Christian mission, in Jos, Nigeria, from 1949 to 1962, running Bingham Memorial Hospital, which specialized in serving missionaries of all Christian faiths. He also supervised numerous medical facilities in the bush, caring for the medical needs of the natives.

In 1962, he moved to Walsh and was instrumental in opening Walsh District Hospital which had been closed for a number of years for lack of a physician. He was the sole practicing physician in Baca County for nine years. In 1970, he was joined in his medical practice by his son, Dr. Bill Troup.

In 1984, he moved his medical practice to Johnson City where he practiced until 1991. He then returned to Walsh to retire. In September 2000, he and his wife moved into the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson City.

Mr. Troup was a member of the American Academy of Family Practice for 38 years, partly in the Colorado Academy of Family Practice and the rest of the time in the Kansas Academy of Family Practice. He served as Baca County Coroner for a number of years, and belonged to the Lions Club and Rotary Club.

Natalie Florene Valkus, his college sweetheart, became his wife in December 1921 at Dallas. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Dr. Bill Troup, Johnson City, and Dave Troup, Lee Summit, Mo.; three daughters, Schatzie Upton, Winfield, Kathy Holstein, Silver Springs, Nev., and Ginger Bordewick, Garden City; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, with three more (including twins) due by March; a brother, Lee Troup, Strassburg, Pa.; and a sister, Louise Troup, West Chicago, Ill. He was preceded in death by two sons, Don and Jim; his parents; two sisters, Dr. Jeanette Troup and Sylvia Troup; and a granddaughter.

Memorials to the Roger C. Troup Memorial Fund may be sent to the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City or Goss Memorial Church in Akron.

Dykes Funeral Home, Walsh, is in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Geier

Vigil service for Catherine Geier, 87, will be 8 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. James Baker as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Miss Geier died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.

She was born April 26, 1914, at Longmont, Colo., the daughter of Peter and Katherine (Bach) Geier.

She had been a Garden City resident since 1925, moving from Hays.

Survivors include two brothers, Florian Geier, Garden City, and Alex Geier, California; and a sister, Ann Herrman, LaCrosse. She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Visitation hours are until 7 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Terrace Garden Care Center, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.

Troy Alan Cantrell

MOSCOW - Funeral for Troy Alan Cantrell, 36, of Moscow, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Moscow Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Bradford officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Mr. Cantrell died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Wichita.

He was born Nov. 8, 1964, at Hugoton, the son of J.C. and Ginger (Dallan) Cantrell.

Mr. Cantrell enjoyed farming and collecting belt buckles. He loved his family and enjoyed family vacations and being with his nieces.

Survivors include his parents, Moscow; a sister, Teri Sheets, Moscow; two nieces; his grandmother, Bernadine Morford, Hugoton; and several uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, an uncle and an aunt.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
