Linda Marie Dowling

HUGOTON - Funeral for Linda Marie Dowling, 61, of Meade, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Nazarene, Meade, with the Rev. Tom Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

Mrs. Dowling died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

She was born July 13, 1940, at Protection, the daughter of Lloyd and Vesta (Robinson) Rhodes. She graduated from Protection High School in 1958.

A resident of Meade since 1989, moving from Protection, she was a certified nurse's assistant working for Meade District Hospital. She attended the Church of the Nazarene, Meade.

On June 24, 1960, she married Artie Vestell Dowling at Protection. He died Aug. 30, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rhonda Stutzman.

She is survived by seven daughters, Deborah Teeter, Meade, Vickie Postlewait, Fallon, Nev., May Faroukhtakin, Arlington, Texas, Darla Black and DeAnn Cherry, both of Wichita, Jane Self, Hugoton, and Regina Rodgers, Irving, Texas; two brothers, Darold Rhodes, Albuquerque, N.M., and Ernest Rhodes, Mulvane; a sister, Vesta Campbell, Valley Center; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 7 tonight at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade. Memorials are suggested to the Center for Basic Cancer Research or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home.

Donald M. Paxman

Funeral for Donald M. Paxman, 61, of McPherson, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, with Chester L. Lowe officiating. Graveside service will be noon Thursday in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.

Mr. Paxman died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in McPherson.

He was born Jan. 30, 1940, at Stafford, the son of William Ralph and Bertha (Hargess) Paxman. He attended Nickerson High School.

A McPherson resident since 1997, moving from Liberal, he was a former body mechanic for Paul's Body Shop, Liberal. He attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, McPherson.

On Jan. 30, 1959, he married Joan Donavan.

He is survived by two sons, Verbin and Rodney, both of McPherson; four daughters, Shawna Glazier, Tribune, Tonya Polart, Syracuse, Cheri Davidson and Michelle Blue, both of Michigan; his mother, Bertha Paxman Gossman, Hutchinson; seven brothers, Gregory Paxman of Houston, Dave, Jerry and Steve Gossman, all of Hutchinson, Benjamin Gossman, Wellington, Daniel Gossman, Rodgers, Ark., and Jim Gossman, Phoenix; two sisters, Ellen Ann Paxman Cranmer, Jamesport, Mo., and Jewette Raymond, Mesa, Ariz.; three stepbrothers, Rex and Raymond DuPree, both of Dodge City, and Donald DuPree, Bucklin; two stepsisters, Rowena Steele, Forgan, Okla., and Dody Jones, Amarillo, Texas; and 14 grandchildren.

Visitation hours are from 4 to 9 tonight, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.

Ronald Dean Williamson

SATANTA - Ronald Dean Williamson, 63, of Satanta, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Dec. 18, 1937, at Satanta, the son of Francis H.P. "Dutch" and Agnes O. (Hickman) Williamson.

A lifetime resident of Satanta, he was a retired fieldman pumper for Panhandle Eastern Gas Co. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Satanta, the National Rifle Association and the American Association of Retired Persons. He enjoyed his family activities, fishing, hunting and camping. In his younger years, he enjoyed woodworking.

On May 19, 1956, he married Sondra J. Pulliam at Clayton, N.M. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Ricky D. Williamson, Abilene, Texas; a daughter, Vicki Williamson, Satanta; his mother, Satanta; two brothers, Rodney P. Williamson, Satanta, and Laurence D. Williamson, La Porte, Colo.; and two grandchildren. His father died Feb. 22, 1972.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Satanta, with the Revs. Jeff Miller and Ray Tweed officiating. Burial will be in Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to the Satanta Ambulance Fund or Satanta Long Term Care Unit and may be left at the Shopping Stop True Value at Satanta or mailed to the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

Lovella Iona Bergner

HUGOTON - Funeral for Lovella Iona Bergner, 81, of Craig, Colo., was to be 10 this morning at First Baptist Church, Meade, with the Rev. Harry Fink officiating. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. today in Union Center Cemetery, Dacoma, Okla.

Mrs. Bergner died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Valley View Nursing Home in Craig.

She was born March 4, 1920, at Meade, the daughter of Otis and Minnie (VanHoesen) Clay.

A resident of Craig for five years, she was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Meade.

On April 12, 1951, she married Richard E. Spencer at Perryton, Texas. On Sept. 26, 1974, she married Lorace L. Bergner at Caproa, Okla. He died Oct. 23, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, who died Aug. 12, 1991; a son, Otis D. Spencer; a stepson, Jerry Lee Bergner; and a brother, Walter Clay.

She is survived by a son, James R. "Ron" Spencer of Craig; two stepsons, Edwin and Dale Bergner, both of Enid, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Donna Mounts and Joy Lynn Bergner, both of Enid; a brother, Malcolm Clay, Meade; a sister, Voyza Gardner, Hugoton; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade, was in charge of arrangements.

Edwin Arland Cauthon

SYRACUSE - Funeral for Edwin Arland Cauthon, 58, of Jacksonville, Fla., will be 11 a.m. EST Wednesday at West Jacksonville Baptist Church, with Prestwood Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cauthon died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at his home in Jacksonville.

He was born Aug. 6, 1943, at Lamar, Colo., the son of Arland Dee and Betty Elwanda (Sowell) Cauthon. He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1962.

Mr. Cauthon served in the U.S. Air Force as a military policeman and in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman. He attended church, enjoyed golfing and loved his family.

On Oct. 29, 1966, he married Sondra J. Forbes at Sacramento, Calif. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Edwin Arland Cauthon Jr., Tennessee; a daughter, Leslie Anne Hull, San Diego; his parents, Syracuse; a brother, Richard D. Cauthon, North Richland Hills, Texas; a sister, Debra E. Jennings, Spokane, Wash.; two grandsons; one granddaughter; two nephews; one niece; an aunt; and two uncles.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, in care of Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878-1253.

Thomas Curtis Reeves

ULYSSES - Thomas Curtis Reeves, 62, of Denver and formerly of Ulysses, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Kindred Hospital in Denver.

He was born Aug. 23, 1939, at Garden City, the son of Walter Curtis and Wilma Lucille (Howell) Reeves. He graduated from Ulysses High School.

A farmer and rancher, Mr. Reeves was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ulysses and Alcoholics Anonymous, a former member of the Ulysses Bit and Spur Club, and had served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by a brother, Timothy L. Reeves, Ulysses; a sister, Susan Slate, Lakin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Ulysses, with Dr. Max Clayton officiating. Private inurnment will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Grant County Museum or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.

Santos Torres

ULYSSES - Santos Torres, 83, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at his home in Ulysses.

He was born Dec. 21, 1917, at Encinal, Texas, the son of Bernave and Eudelia (Esparza) Torres.

On Jan. 26, 1966, he married Josephine Nanez at Hill Center, Texas. They moved from Spur, Texas, to Ulysses in 1997. A farm laborer, he enjoyed his family activities.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Armando Torres and Joe Torres, both of Ulysses, and Santos Torres Jr., Amarillo, Texas; two daughters, Maria Torres, Ulysses, and Juanita Ramirez, Bakersfield, Calif.; a brother, Dorateo Torres, Carrizo Springs, Texas; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Primera Asambleas De Dios Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Isaac Esparza officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested for the family, in care of the funeral home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
