Delmar D. Huck

SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Delmar D. Huck, 80, was to be 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Revs. Mike McGuire and Galen Huck officiating. Burial was to be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mr. Huck died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born March 20, 1921, in Comanche County, the son of Ostwalt and Mattie (Kinsvater) Huck.

A Scott City resident since 1947, moving from Coldwater, he was a retired farmer and rancher. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW Post No. 7773 and American Legion Post No. 183, all at Scott City, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

On Aug. 10, 1947, he married Wanda L. Oller at Coldwater. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Richard D. and Randall K. Huck, both of Scott City, and David R. Huck, Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Carol Morrison, Tulsa, Okla.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Gwen Diane Modlin; and three brothers, Vernon, Norman and Duane Huck.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or USD 466 Athletic Association, both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City.

Leonard Albert Norton

SCOTT CITY - Leonard Albert Norton, 75, of Ness City, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

He was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Gove County, the son of Thomas Fahey and Juanita (Lehman) Norton.

A farmer and stockman, he had lived in Ness County for 70 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Utica, a 25-year director of the Wet Walnut Watershed District, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

On Nov. 21, 1951, he married Ilene Merryfield at Dighton. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Marlin Norton, Ness City; a daughter, Vicky Foos, Scott City; two brothers, Clell, Seattle, and Lee, Ness City; four sisters, Jean Borthwick, Beeler, Faye Bauer, Hays, Wilma Ochs, Granberry, Texas, and Judith Carder, Fountain, Colo.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Utica, with the Rev. Bruce Ferguson officiating. Presentation of the American flag will be conducted by the McKinstry-Jones Post of the American Legion, Utica.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday with the family visiting with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral home.

Viva Mae Burns

CIMARRON - Viva Mae Burns, 90, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron.

She was born May 16, 1911, at Pawnee Rock, the daughter of Raymond and Nellie (Murray) Baird, and grew up northeast of Cimarron.

In April 1929, she married Albert F. "Frank" Burns. They made their home in the Kalvesta area and she worked as a cook and bus driver at the Kalvesta school during those years. In 1964, they moved to Cimarron.

A homemaker, Mrs. Burns was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Cimarron.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Hamilton, Ingalls; five sons, Albert F., Jerald L., Ronald K., William R. "Bill" and Charles W. Burns, all of Cimarron; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Her husband died Sept. 6, 1985.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nazarene, Cimarron, with the Rev. Jim Bond officiating. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Alberta L. Wallace

CIMARRON - Alberta L. Wallace, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center in Dodge City.

She was born Aug. 19, 1919, at Cimarron, the daughter of Albert LeRoy and Ida B. (Jenkins) Rohrbaugh.

A lifetime resident of Cimarron, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Cimarron United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School for 10 years, and belonged to PEO and VFW Auxiliary.

On June 20, 1941, she married Leroy J. Wallace at Little Rock, Ark. He died May 16, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Buford and James William Rohrbaugh; and a sister, Ilda Fern.

Survivors include a son, Denis, Cimarron; three brothers, Bernard Rohrbaugh, North Fork, Calif., Dale Eugene Rohrbaugh, Oklahoma City, and Charles Rohrbaugh, Caldwell; a sister, LaDonna Rice, Stillwater, Okla.; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cimarron United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Frank DeFisher officiating. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Burkhart's Gray County Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Memorials are suggested to the Cimarron Golf Course or Hospice of the Prairie, both in care of the funeral chapel, Box 786, Cimarron, KS 67835.

Ignatius S. "Niter" Slattery

Vigil service for Ignatius S. "Niter" Slattery, 82, of Wright, will be 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Wright, followed by Knights of Columbus rosary. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Schremmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Wright.

Mr. Slattery died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.

The son of Patrick J. and Christina (Strecker) Slattery, he was born March 21, 1919, at his parent's home in rural Ford County near Spearville.

On Feb. 10, 1943, he married Beatrice Ann "Snookey" Stegman at Dodge City. They lived on a farm near Wright until moving into Wright in 1972. She died Jan. 1, 1995. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Patrick James Slattery IV; a brother, P. James Slattery; and a sister, Mary Nau.

A farmer and carpenter, Mr. Slattery had worked for Right Cooperative as a service technician for more than 20 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1862, and was instrumental in establishing the Wright Senior Center.

He is survived by four daughters, Carol Sue Campbell and Kathleen Ann Slattery, both of Garden City, Lori Diane Litton, Ingalls, and Nancy Kay Slattery, Dodge City; two sons, Patrick J. Slattery, Olathe, and Timothy M. Slattery, Wright; two sisters, Agnes Buehne, Wright, and Christina Traylor, Spearville; two brothers, Anthony Slattery, Spearville, and Paul Slattery, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are from noon to 6 p.m. today and noon to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to Wright Senior Center, in care of the funeral home.

Marjorie E. Goss

Graveside service for Marjorie E. Goss, 81, will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. Doug Williams officiating.

Mrs. Goss died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Haskell County, the daughter of Ray E. and Lenora H. (McCollum) Osborn.

A retired sewing machine operator for the General Motors Corp. in Detroit, she moved from Venice, Fla., to Garden City on June 6, 1994. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Detroit.

On Dec. 20, 1946, she married Walter Goss at Detroit. He died Sept. 13, 1993, at Venice. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Leland E. Osborn.

She is survived by two sisters, Maxine Jarvis, Sulfur Springs, Ark., and Winifred L. Koksal, Garden City; and two brothers, Ray E. Osborn, Pensacola Beach, Fla., and Gene Osborn, San Clemente, Calif.

Visitation hours are from 3 to 8 tonight and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Garden Valley Retirement Village, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.

Wilfred J. Herman Jr.

Vigil service for Wilfred J. Herman Jr., 66, of Garden City, will be 7 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mr. Herman died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Aug. 10, 1935, at Pfeifer, the son of Wilfred D. and Josephine (Urban) Herman.

A Garden City resident since 1942, moving from Victoria, he had been a supervisor for the concrete and block plant for Fankhauser Inc., for 27 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

On Aug. 11, 1955, he married Elsie M. Frank. She died in July 1967. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Merle Herman.

On Jan. 18, 1969, he married Patricia A. Burnett. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Timothy J. Herman, Garden City; three daughters, Cheryl L. Haug, Garden City, Sandra R. Harrelson, Texas, and Kimberly A. Roth, Holcomb; his mother, Josephine Michlitsch, Garden City; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
