Rosella Wicke

ATWOOD - Rosella Wicke, 84, died Nov. 30, 2001, at the Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood.

A Mass of Christian Burial was to be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards as celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Herndon.

A vigil and Christian Mother's rosary was to be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Williams Funeral Home chapel in Atwood.

Survivors include a son, Archie Wicke of Goodland; three daughters, Rita Koehn, Seattle, Linda Elder, LaCygne, and Linda Johnson, Garden City; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be addressed to the Obert Senior Center and Good Samaritan Center, both of Atwood, and may be mailed to the funeral home at 109 N. Second St., Atwood.

Williams Funeral Home of Atwood is in charge of the arrangements.

Katharine E. Maris

LYONS - Katharine E. Maris, 94, Lyons, died Nov. 30, 2001, at Lyons Good Samaritan Center.

Mrs. Maris was born Aug. 12, 1907, at Wilmington, Del., the daughter of Elmo R. Freeman and Anna E. Kane. She had been a resident of Lyons since 1973. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Christian Church and the O.E.S. Queen Esther Chapter in Lyons.

Katharine married James W. Maris on April 7, 1928, at Atlantic City, N.J. He died Nov. 29, 1993.

Survivors include four sons, Robert, Overland Park, Martin, Dallas, David, Wichita, and Steven, Lone Star, Texas; and three daughters, Eleanor Young, Lyons, Nancy Potter, Dighton, and Katharine Cundith, Tulsa, Okla.

Funeral service was to be at 2 p.m. today at First Christian Church in Lyons with the Rev. Tom Eastman officiating. Burial was to be at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Lyons Good Samaritan Center in care of Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons.

John M. Roberts

John M. Roberts, 66, a former Ulysses resident, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Veterans Hospital in Long Beach, Calif.

He was born Aug. 8, 1935, at Coffeyville, the son of James D. and Dollie (Wisely) Roberts.

For many years, Mr. Roberts had lived in Lakewood, Calif., retiring as a mechanic for Powerine Oil Co., Long Beach. He had lived in Ulysses in 1997-98, working for Ritchie Paving. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956.

On Oct. 6, 1956, he married Danielle Rule. She died Sept. 13, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his father and a brother, James Daniel Roberts Jr.

He is survived by a son, Michael Roberts, Brookings, Ore.; a daughter, Cathryn Bauknecht, Whittier, Calif.; his mother, Independence; a brother, Ronald Roberts, Pasadena, Calif.; two sisters, Barbara Hensley, Garden City, and Lucille Ehart, Coffeyville; and six grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Riverside (Calif.) National Cemetery.

McCormick Mortuary, Whittier, is in charge of arrangements.

William S. "Bill" Sisco

DIGHTON - William S. "Bill" Sisco, 75, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

He was born Dec. 20, 1926, at Hasty, Ark., the son of Marion Edward and Martha Melvina (Norvell) Sisco. He attended schools in Hasty.

Mr. Sisco served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge, he served two years in the Kansas National Guard.

In 1947, he moved to Lane County and worked on a farm and ranch and at the Chase Elevator in Alamota. He later worked as a custodian and bus driver for the Dighton school district before going to work for the Lane County Road Department, retiring in 1991 as the noxious weed director. He also served as Lane County Emergency Medical Technician.

He was baptized into the Southern Baptist Church, was a member of American Legion Post No. 190 and Odd Fellows Lodge No. 286, both at Dighton, and belonged to VFW Post No. 7972 of Ransom. He enjoyed camping, fishing and motorcycles.

On June 30, 1948, he married Hazel Ruth Minks at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Marion Sisco, Garden City; a daughter, Billie Pierce, Lebo; two brothers, Newell Sisco, Illinois, and James Sisco, Valley Springs, Ark.; four sisters, Alyce Jones and Edna McCormick, both of Harrison, Ark., Audrey Davidson, Rodgers, Ark., and Judy Nichols, Laton, Calif.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Reva Halvorsen; and a grandson.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Kerry Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post No. 7972.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or VFW Post No. 7972, both in care of the funeral home.

Pedro R. Ramirez Jr.

DEERFIELD - Vigil service for Pedro R. Ramirez Jr., 41, will be 7 p.m. Friday at Christ The King Catholic Church, Deerfield. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Rev. Michael Helms will officiate at both services. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery.

Mr. Ramirez died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Nov. 10, 1960, at San Angelo, Texas, the son of Pedro R. Sr. and Consuelo (Garcia) Ramirez.

Mr. Ramirez was a mill operator at Western Alfalfa in Garden City and had worked as a cook for the Red Baron Restaurant in Garden City.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas Ramirez, Denver, and Emilio Ramirez, Hugoton; and four sisters, Grace Perez, Fort Worth, Texas, Elma Ramirez, San Angelo, Elsa Beltran and Lupe Rocha, both of Deerfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Glenda Ramirez.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette, is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys H. Wallace

SUBLETTE - Gladys H. Wallace, 101, of Sublette, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Satanta District Hospital.

She was born Nov. 19, 1900, at Clara, Mo., the daughter of Fred D. and Ada Mae (Wall) Thomas.

On June 12, 1923, she married Otto R. Wallace at Garden City. After their marriage, they moved from Ulysses to Sublette. He died in 1947. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Cecil K. Thomas, Fred D. Thomas and Paul Thomas; a sister, Opal Davies; and two great-grandsons.

A homemaker, Mrs. Wallace was a member of the Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Social Hour Club, Friendly Neighbors Club and Banner Club, all at Sublette, and was a world traveler. She had been a resident of the Satanta Long Term Care Unit for a number of years.

She is survived by two sons, Philip E. Wallace, Sublette, and Jack D. Wallace, Raytown, Mo.; two daughters, Betty K. Chaffin and Mary Lou Spanier, both of Sublette; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Church, Sublette, with the Rev. David Erwin officiating. Burial will be in Banner Cemetery, Sublette.

Visitation hours are from 6 to 8 tonight and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to the Christian Church, Cimarron Valley Golf Course or the donor's choice, all in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

James N. "Jim" McNitt

SYRACUSE - James N. "Jim" McNitt, 75, of Oklahoma City, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002.

He was born Nov. 24, 1926, at Syracuse, the son of Wayne and Esther McNitt. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1954 with a degree in electrical engineering.

During his career, Mr. McNitt worked for Schlumberger in Kansas and Texas, Chrysler Corp.'s Missile Division in Huntsville, Ala., and General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1967, he and his family moved to Oklahoma City where he served as a design engineer for Kerr-McGee Corp.'s Nuclear Division until his retirement in 1985.

He married JoAnne Rogers in 1947. She survives. He is also survived by his mother, Syracuse; two sons, Danyal, Edmond, Okla., and Kelly, Oklahoma City; a daughter Gayle, Norman, Okla.; a grandson; two granddaughters,; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Dallas McNitt, Ulysses, and Gene McNitt, Amarillo, Texas; a sister, Mary Sullins, Syracuse; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, a sister and two brothers.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Putnam City United Methodist Church, Oklahoma City, with the Revs. Greg Tener and Robert Gorrell officiating.

Demuth Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Lung Association, 3160 W. Britton Road, Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
