Marvin Dewayne Nichols

MONTEZUMA - Marvin Dewayne Nichols, 66, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where he had been a resident.

He was born Aug. 4, 1935, at Ulysses, the son of Harvey A. and Ruth (Koehn) Nichols.

Mr. Nichols had worked in various fields, including land leveling, welding and dairy farming. He was a member of Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Montezuma.

On June 10, 1956, he married Barbara E. Smith at Montezuma. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, James, Mark and Jerrell Nichols, all of Montezuma; three daughters, Marilou Giesbrecht, Phoenix, Debra Dirks, Wichita, and Janice Nichols, Montezuma; a sister, Marjorie Nichols, Halstead; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant granddaughter; a brother, Leon Nichols; and a sister, Vada Becker.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Montezuma. Charles Schmidt and Edwin Classen, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in North Mennonite Cemetery, Montezuma.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc., in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Justin V. Graff

Justin V. Graff, 76, a Wichita County resident, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at the Wichita Heart Hospital in Wichita.

He was born Feb. 28, 1925, at Schoenchen, the son of John and Josephine Werth Graff. He was a farmer and lifetime Wichita County resident.

He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Marienthal, Kan. He served for many years as a county committeeman for the Farm Service Agency and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

On Oct. 28, 1947, he married Frieda V. Rider at Marienthal. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Steven Graff, Leoti, and Major Graff, Marienthal; four daughters, Carol Schuster, Phoenix, Ariz., Allyson Young, Olathe, Elaine Hodgson, Mission, Deidra Davidson, Overland Park; two brothers, Victor and Theodore Graff, both of Marienthal; six sisters, Armena Palkowitsh, Ft. Collins, Colo., Henrietta Baker, Marienthal, Pauline Schiffelbein and Delphine Schmidt, both of Hays, Thelma De Witt, Tavares, Fla., Bernita George, Garden City; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marcellus "Blackie" Graff and two sons, Roger Graff and John Graff.

Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marienthal. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Father Charles Mazouch officiating.

Memorials may be written to the Justin Graff Memorial Fund in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home, Leoti.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Eldor Bentrup

Eldor Bentrup, 74, a former area resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at his home in Yuma, Ariz.

He was born May 5, 1927, at Garden City. He graduated from high school in Deerfield, and attended St. Johns Lutheran College at Winfield and Concordia Theological Seminary at St. Louis, Mo.

A farmer for 48 years near Deerfield, he enjoyed many hobbies, including building and flying radio-controlled planes, making Indian pottery, doing magic shows and playing the keyboard.

He is survived by Mary Ann, his wife of 50 years; two daughters, Beth Perez, Denver, and Diane Bentrup, Montrose, Colo.; a son, Gary Bentrup, Lincoln, Neb.; four grandchildren; and one brother, Paul Bentrup of Lakin.

A memorial service was 1 p.m. Thursday at Gloria de Cristo Lutheran Church, Yuma, with the Rev. Paul Hanson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of Yuma, 1824 S. Eighth Ave., Yuma, AZ 85367.

Larry Lee Pauley

Graveside service for Larry Lee Pauley, 52, a former Garden City resident, will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City. Chaplain Shannon Borchert will officiate.

Mr. Pauley died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at his home in Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was born Oct. 24, 1949, at Loma Linda, Calif., the son of Junior Forest and Margie Gwen (McNee) Pauley, and grew up in Kansas.

He married Marilyn Hoover. He later married Karie Mishaw.

A resident of Sioux Falls for 12 years, Mr. Pauley had many interests but especially enjoyed painting, reading and working on the computer. He was an avid outdoorsman who liked rock climbing.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Bennington, Wichita; a son, Cpl. Lance Justin Pauley, U.S. Marine Corps, Quantico, Va.; two stepdaughters, Sara and Tara Kolb, both of Sioux Falls; a brother, Lanny Pauley, Garden City; three sisters, Cheri Renick, Charleston, Linda Mader and Vicki Salyer, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; a grandson; a stepgrandson; and a stepgranddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be no visitation. Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Rose Wasson

Evelyn Rose Wasson, 84, of Sun City, Ariz., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002.

She was born June 22, 1917, at Osceola, Neb.

A retired bookkeeper, she had moved to Arizona in 1994. She was a member of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Sun City.

Survivors include her son, Richard Wasson, Sun City; two sisters, Ann Ricker, Whittier, Calif., and Frances Pratt, Meadow Grove, Neb.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Feb. 2 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014-5669 or the American Cancer Society.

Menke Funeral Home, Sun City, is in charge of arrangements.

George Leo Tatro

Parish rosary for George Leo Tatro, 80, of Kingman, was to be 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kingman. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Revs. Tim Tatro, Darrell Befort, John Miller, John Reinkemeyer, John Schutty, Tom Leland and Joe Tatro as celebrants. Burial will be in St. Peter Church Cemetery, Willowdale.

Mr. Tatro died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

He was born Nov. 8, 1921, at Cleveland, Kan., the son of Wesley Henry and Mary Katherine (Miller) Tatro.

A longtime resident of Kingman, he was a retired oil field worker. He belonged to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1629 and the VFW, all at Kingman, was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus at Wichita and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

On June 3, 1946, he married Sarah Adelaide Foster at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Ted Tatro, Junction City, the Rev. Tim Tatro, Jefferson City, Mo., and Tom Tatro, Kingman; two daughters, Teresa Binder, Hutchinson, and Tonya Arnett, Garnett; five brothers, Joe and Vince, both of Kingman, John, Garden City, James, Commerce City, Colo., and Paul, Satanta; three sisters, Phil Sterling, Garden City, Lillian Revere, San Diego, and Mary Cunningham, Boron, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick Grade School, in care of Livingston Funeral Home, Box 453, Kingman, KS 67068.

Glenn Dale Warren

Funeral for Glenn Dale Warren, 41, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Morell Funeral Home, Larned, with the Rev. Richard Martin officiating. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery.

Mr. Warren died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at his home in Larned.

He was born Dec. 2, 1960, at Hutchinson, the son of Glenn A.D. and June Ruby (Hancock) Warren.

He was employed as a laborer and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his father, Great Bend; his mother, Garden City; a brother, Randy, Severy; four stepbrothers, Vernon and Wendell Hicks, both of Nowata, Okla., Paul Hicks, Oologah, Okla., and Delbert Hicks, Hawaii; a stepsister, Cheryl Vincent, Sacramento, Calif.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Jamie Dale Warren; two stepbrothers, Steve and Scott Vincent; and a stepsister, Susan Lange.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Memorials to the donor's choice may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 124, Larned, KS 67550-0124.
