Refugia Andrada

Evening service for Refugia Andrada, 78, will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Church of God of the First Born, Garden City. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Juan Janas officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Andrada died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born July 4, 1923, at Milano, Texas, the daughter of Bernardino and Bernave (Juarez) Guebara.

A Garden City resident since 1957, moving from Meadow, Texas, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God of the First Born and participated in many church activities. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and gardening and she enjoyed spending time with her family.

On Jan. 22, 1944, she married Juan Andrada at Meadow. He survives. She is also survived by three sons, Juan Andrada Jr., Hooker, Okla., Lupe Andrada, Liberal, and Sammy Andrada, Austin, Texas; eight daughters, Tonia Rodriguez and Anita Mata, both of Amarillo, Texas, Martha Rincones, Rebecca Cantu, Betty Andrada and Melda Montanez, all of Garden City, Rosie Rodriguez, Liberal, and Alberta Andrada, Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Juanita Perez, Meadow, and Mary Villa, Fritch, Texas; 35 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Alfred Andrada, on May 27, 1973.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church, 2909 W. Mary St. Memorials to the Refugia Andrada Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Dorothy A. York

HEALY - Funeral for Dorothy A. York, 70, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Healy, with the Revs. Randy Jellison-Knock and Sandra Jellison-Knock officiating. Burial will be in Healy Cemetery.

Mrs. York died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

She was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Rice County, the daughter of William W. and Wanita (Feldman) Arensman.

A lifetime resident of Healy, she was a retired math teacher. She belonged to the United Methodist Church of Healy, Healy Bridge Club and the Internet Bridge Club, and enjoyed quilting and sewing.

On June 15, 1952, she married Dwight A. York at Salem Methodist Church near Bushton. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Daren D. York, Healy; two daughters, Denise York Shrode, Edmond, Okla., and Dana Y. Shay, Healy; a brother, Virgil Arensman, Palmer Lake, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Devon Kay; and her stepfather, Fred Schmidt.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to Scott County Hospital for the Hospice Room, nurse's station and kitchenette, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Jesusa Q. 'Jessie' Sanchez

ULYSSES - Funeral for Jesusa Q. "Jessie" Sanchez, 81, of Ulysses and formerly of Julesburg, Colo., will be 7 tonight at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses, with the Rev. Isaac Esparza officiating. Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. MST Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Julesburg, with the Rev. Michael Chamberlain officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Julesburg.

Mrs. Sanchez died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Bob Wilson Grant County Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born Sept. 14, 1920, at Uvalde, Texas, the daughter of Julian and Vantura (Santiago) Quirova. A homemaker, she enjoyed her family activities.

On Sept. 25, 1937, she married Gonzalo Sanchez at La Mesa, Texas. He died Jan. 17, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son, Jesus Sanchez.

She is survived by three sons, Gonzalo Q. Sanchez, Sarasota, Fla., Jose Q. Sanchez and Ismael Q. Sanchez, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three daughters, Maria Manzano, Ulysses, Annabelle Ortiz, North Platte, Neb., and Elsa Garcia, Donna, Texas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Edgar A. Poe

Edgar A. Poe, 66, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.

He was born May 29, 1935, at Longview, Texas, the son of Samuel E. and Leanna (Williams) Poe. The family moved to Garden City, where he spent most of his childhood. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1953, and attended Garden City Community College, Whittier College in California and the University of Colorado in Denver.

In January 1959, he married Alamia McGary at Dodge City.

Mr. Poe was a police officer while living in Denver, and returned to Garden City in the early 1990s. His special interests included fishing, and spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by three daughters, Denise Campbell, Thornton, Colo., Jaramillo Lewis and Jacqueline Poe, both of Denver; a brother, John W. Poe, Wichita; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with military graveside rites conducted by the Garden City Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and until noon Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Terrace Garden Care Center, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Loreen Mary Williams

Johnson CITY - Funeral for Loreen Mary Williams, 74, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Manter, with the Rev. Kevin Seuser officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City.

Mrs. Williams died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at St. Francis Hospice Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was born Jan. 10, 1928, at Quinter, the daughter of Ernest and Ruby (Jarboe) Jamison.

Mrs. Williams worked as a certified nurse's aide at Memorial Hospital of Colorado Springs until her retirement.

On July 18, 1970, she married Thomas Albert Williams at Quinter. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Michael, Tulsa, Okla., and Pat, Colorado Springs; three daughters, Jacquetta McFarland, Colorado Springs, Elaine Frye, Ozawkie, and Vivian Ratzlaff, Dodge City; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hershel Jamison, Pratt, and her twin brother, Loren Jamison of Quinter; four sisters, Eula Schriner and Lily Zeman, both of WaKeeney, Myrna Prewett, Beloit, and Nellie Kepferle, Quinter; a sister-in-law, Patsy Wise of Johnson City; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by twin sons, Mark and Max Claussen; three brothers, Edwin, Ruben and Virgil Jamison; and a sister, Wava Smith.

Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson City, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen G. Warrington

SCOTT CITY - Private funeral service for Helen G. Warrington, 88, was to be 10:30 this morning at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, with the Rev. Robert Nuckolls officiating. Burial was to be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mrs. Warrington died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.

She was born Feb. 23, 1913, at Scott City, the daughter of Clyde and Tillie (Addison) Cutler. After graduating from Scott Community High School, she attended cosmetology school and operated a beauty shop in Leoti for several years.

A lifetime resident of Scott City, she was a homemaker. She belonged to First Christian Church and Rebekah Lodge, both at Scott City, and Eastern Star in Finney County.

On Sept. 8, 1945, she married Arlo V. Warrington at Colorado Springs, Colo. He died Aug. 27, 1979, at Scott City. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a niece.

Survivors include a sister, Shirley Barger, El Reno, Okla.; and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to First Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.

Bryan W. Ulrich

Bryan W. Ulrich, 38, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at his home in Garden City.

He was born April 14, 1963, at Dallas, the son of Chester W. and Brenda J. (Allen) Ulrich. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1981 and also graduated from Garden City Community College.

Mr. Ulrich lived in Phoenix for 10 years, returning to Garden City in 1999, and was employed as a computer software consultant. He attended St. Dominic Catholic Church. His hobbies were music, being involved in church activities and spending time with his family.

On March 11, 1989, he married Michele Colby at Las Vegas. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Kristofer, Jordyn and Andrew, and a daughter, Taiylor, all of the home; his parents, Garden City; two brothers, Bruce, Suquamish, Wash., and Brandon, Garden City; a sister, Angela Ulrich, McPherson; and his grandmothers, Nellie Ulrich and Lavern Holman, both of Garden City. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Chester I. Ulrich and Henry C. Allen.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. The casket will be closed. Memorials to the Bryan W. Ulrich Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Jessie Robles Avila

Vigil service for Jessie Robles Avila, 83, will be 6 tonight at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Avila died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at her home in Garden City.

She was born July 7, 1918, at Deerfield, the daughter of Jose Marin and Mary Guadalupe (Acosta) Robles. A Garden City resident since the early 1920s, moving from Deerfield, she attended Hutchinson Grade School.

Mrs. Avila was a housekeeper for the Faye Collingwood family in Beverly Hills, Calif., in the summer of 1953 and was the cook for the family of the boy who starred as Alfalfa in "The Little Rascals." A homemaker, her hobbies were cooking, gardening, sewing, embroidery and making crafts. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

On Dec. 22, 1940, she married Jess B. Avila at Cimarron. He survives. She also is survived by three sons, Henry, Topeka, Jerry, Richland, Wash., and Steve, Garden City; a daughter, Cecilia Avila, Garden City; two brothers, Manuel Robles, Garden City, and John Robles, Wichita; three sisters, Josephine Salinas and Susan Mujica, both of Garden City, and Connie Garcia, Borger, Texas; seven grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, two daughters, two brothers and four sisters.

Visitation hours are until 5 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
