Leona E. Dickenson

Leona E. Dickenson, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born Sept. 2, 1918, near Friend in Finney County, the daughter of W.F. "Fred" and Elsie F. (Metz) Hisey. She graduated from Garden City High School and the Venus Beauty Academy of Wichita.

A lifetime Finney County and Garden City resident, she was a homemaker and also helped with the family farming business. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, the Women's Bowling Association and Extension Homemakers Unit. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, traveling, yard work and gardening.

On Feb. 20, 1938, she married Dale R. Dickenson at Cimarron. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Kenneth Dickenson, Clovis, N.M.; two daughters, Carol Brown and Sharon Murray, both of Garden City; a sister, Mary Quick, Loveland, Colo.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Freddie Hisey Jr.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert Cousins officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.

Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or Garden Valley Retirement Village, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Rosaura Canal

Rosaura Canal, 25, of Dodge City, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Ford County. Her mother also died in the accident.

She was born Dec. 7, 1976, at Jalisco, Mexico, the daughter of Marcelino Canal and Rosa Perez. She had been an area resident for two years, moving from Mexico.

Survivors include her father, Los Angeles; a brother, Simon Canal, Garden City; and two sisters, Cecilia Canal, Los Angeles, and Cruz Canal, Garden City.

Burial is planned for later in Mexico.

Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, is in charge of arrangements.

Rosa Perez

Rosa Perez, 54, of Dodge City, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Ford County. Her daughter, Rosaura Canal, also died in the accident.

She was born Aug. 30, 1947, at Jalisco, Mexico, the daughter of Rafeal Perez and Paula Brandbila. An area resident for two years, moving from Mexico, she was employed by National Beef at Dodge City.

Survivors include a son, Simon Canal, Garden City; two daughters, Cecilia Canal, Los Angeles, and Cruz Canal, Garden City; her mother, Mexico; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.

Burial is planned for later in Mexico.

Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, is in charge of arrangements.

Lynn M. Cannon

DEERFIELD - Lynn M. Cannon, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born March 10, 1909, at Clarence, Mo., the son of Phillip and Dorothy (Wallace) Cannon. He lived in Clarence until he was 9 and the family moved to Wyoming where he lived until moving to Deerfield in 1928.

A farmer and stockman, he enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends, visiting with his friends and working with mules. He was a member of Deerfield United Methodist Church and served on various church committees, including as chairman of the Church Building Committee. He was a charter member of the Deerfield Lions Club, was instrumental in starting the Deerfield Groundhog Supper and served on the Deerfield School Board for three years.

On Aug. 26, 1940, he married Mary Powell at Sterling. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Charles Cannon, Denver; a daughter, Marilyn Ploeger, Deerfield; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Paul, Wilbur and Harry Cannon; a sister, Ruby Clutter; and a nephew.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Deerfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Warren Hett officiating. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from noon to 8 p.m. today and Sunday and 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home, 508 N. Main St., Lakin, KS 67860.

Eleanor M. Kuttler

SCOTT CITY - Eleanor M. Kuttler, 78, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.

She was born Jan. 28, 1924, at Scott City, the daughter of Jeptha L. and Aurel (McDermott) Browning. She graduated from high school at Leoti in 1942.

Mrs. Kuttler had been a Scott City resident from 1975 to 1977, moving to Tribune in 1978. A homemaker, she was a member of the United Methodist Church at Scott City and Tribune, and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star.

On July 17, 1942, she married Harry A. Dexter at Dodge City. He died Dec. 27, 1976, at Scott City. On July 21, 1981, she married Joseph V. "J.V." Kuttler at Scott City. He died Feb. 22, 2000, at Tribune. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kent Dexter; and a daughter, Kim Dutton.

Survivors include two sons, Kris and Kraig Dexter, both of Garden City; a grandson; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Revs. Mike McGuire and Keith Fink officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Visitation hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Margaret Ada Walker

CIMARRON - Margaret Ada Walker, 93, of Cimarron, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.

She was born May 9, 1908, at Littleton, Colo., the daughter of Reuben and Myra (Roberts) Sherwood. When she was young, the family moved to Cimarron where she graduated from high school in 1926.

Mrs. Walker was a member of St. Cornelius Episcopal Church of Dodge City, a 75-year member of Chapter CL of the PEO Sisterhood and belonged to the Eastern Star, both at Cimarron. She enjoyed dancing, bridge, needlework, reading, traveling, playing piano and organ, crossword puzzles and gardening.

On Dec. 1, 1934, she married Richard L. Walker at Cimarron. He died June 11, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia Godfrey; and a brother, Bob Sherwood.

She is survived by a daughter, Kay Logan, Garden City; a son, Dick Walker, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Ed Sherwood, Bellevue, Wash.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron, with the Rev. Dennis Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Cimarron Library or PEO Sunflower Grants, both in care of the funeral chapel.

William 'Dale' Frizzell

William "Dale" Frizzell, 53, of Garden City, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born April 13, 1948, at Chillicothe, Mo., the son of Rolla G. and Helen B. (Caselman) Frizzell.

A Garden City resident since 1978, moving from Wheeling, Mo., he was a pump supervisor for Henkle Drilling and Supply Co. He was a member of the Christian faith.

On June 1, 1973, he married Debbie L. Weitzel at Meadville, Mo. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, David Frizzell, Garden City, Jason Frizzell, Phoenix, and Brian Frizzell, of the home; a daughter, Stacy Frizzell, Garden City; two brothers, Ronald Frizzell, Columbia, Mo., and Dean Hill, Wichita; a sister, Faye Burton, Chillicothe; and three grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Ray Holman officiating. Inurnment will take place later in Missouri.

There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Children's Education Fund or the Center for Basic Cancer Research, both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.

Kleda A. Koehn

MONTEZUMA - Kleda A. Koehn, 81, of Montezuma, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident Jan. 27.

She was born Jan. 17, 1921, at Montezuma, the daughter of Daniel and Amanda (Koehn) Dirks.

A lifetime resident, she had cooked at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, for more than 30 years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, quilting, visiting with her friends and her family activities. She was a member of Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Montezuma.

On Sept. 21, 1952, she married Lewis L. Koehn at Montezuma. He survives. She is also survived by three sons, Charles and Dick Koehn, both of Montezuma, and Kenneth Koehn, Dodge City; a daughter, Karen Koehn, Montezuma; two sisters, Delilah Toews and Opal Giesbrecht, both of Montezuma; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Edwin, Pete, Otis, Marvin and Obed Koehn; and three sisters, Alvina Schmidt, Erma Buller and Gustena Koehn.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Homeland Mennonite Church, Montezuma. Lyndon Toews, Kelly Isaac and Luther Smith, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery, Montezuma.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc., in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Agness Lorine Barnett

HEALY-Funeral for Agness Lorine Barnett, 78, of Healy, was to be 10:30 this morning at the United Methodist Church, Healy, with the Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock officiating. Burial was to be in Healy Cemetery.

Barnett died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.

She was born April 29, 1923, at Pocahantas, Ark., the daughter of Frank and Willie (Wagner) Scott. She attended schools in the Pocahantas area.

On Nov. 29, 1939, she married Cecil G. "Jack" Barnett at Pocahantas. They moved to Ensign in 1945, back to Arkansas in 1951, and to Healy in 1954. A homemaker, she enjoyed yard work, gardening and her family activities.

Her husband died May 23, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Edward Barnett; a daughter, Kathleen Doris; two brothers, Everett and J.W. Scott; a sister, Jeweldean Benson; and three great-grandchildren.

She is survived by six sons, Jerel and Billie Barnett, both of Healy, Paul and Mac Barnett, both of Dighton, Kenneth Barnett, Jetmore, and Craig Barnett, Quinter; two daughters, Hassel Conley, Bonaire, Ga., and Bonnie Donecker, Healy; two sisters, Opal Webster and Wanda Lee Robertson, both of Pocahantas; 35 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials are suggested to the Healy Emergency Medical Technicians Fund, in care of Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton
