Jean Marie Hines

COOLIDGE - Jean Marie Hines, 80, of Coolidge, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.

She was born June 26, 1921, at the Bow Creek community in Sheridan County, the daughter of Claude and Maudie Shipley. She graduated from high school at Hoxie in 1939 and attended Halstead School of Nursing, graduating in 1944 as a registered nurse.

On Oct. 26, 1947, she married Oliver Hines at Hoxie. They farmed in Coolidge and Mrs. Hines also worked at the Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse for 21 years, retiring in December 1986.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Steven, Stanley and Bruce Hines, all of Coolidge; a grandson; four sisters, Leah Woofter, Beatrice, Neb., Nelda Williams, Redfield, Betty Tidy, Larned, and Helen Gilbert, Kansas City, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Jerry Shipley.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Coolidge High School Gymnasium, with the Rev. David Moorman officiating. Burial will follow in Coolidge Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel, Holly, Colo. Memorials are suggested to the Greeley County Hospital Memorial Fund, either directly or through the funeral chapel, 119 S. Main St., Holly, CO 81047.

Patricia Ann Barker

Patricia Ann Barker, 73, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at her home in Garden City.

She was born Feb. 27, 1929, at Jamestown, the daughter of Fred and Vera Wigton Lundblade.

Mrs. Barker was a restaurant cook in Montana until moving to North Dakota in 1975 where she owned and operated her own restaurant until 1982. She worked with home health care in North Dakota, New Mexico and Florida before retiring and moving to Garden City in 1987. She was a member of the Christian faith, and enjoyed working on puzzles and cooking and, for many years, crocheting.

In May 1947, she married Harold H. Barker at Cimarron. He died June 21, 2000, at Garden City. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include four sons, Gary and Dean Barker, both of Garden City, Terry Barker, Rio Rancho, N.M., and Keith Barker, Blue Springs, Mo.; four daughters, Dorothy Huff, Garden City, Wanda Jones, Alton, Ill., Brenda Barker, Greeley, Colo., and Sandy Smith, Scott City; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.

Paul Raymond Williamson

HUGOTON - Paul Raymond Williamson, 75, of Hugoton, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

He was born Jan. 21, 1927, at Pittsburg, the son of Arthur George and Anna Ellen Porter Williamson.

Mr. Williamson was the funeral director of Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton and was a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his friend and companion, Helen Horton, of the home; a son, Paul J. Williamson, Austin, Texas; two daughters, Pat Wiley, Cynthiana, Ky., and Maria O'Sullivan, Lamar, Mo.; two brothers, Kay Williamson, Mound City, and Bill Williamson, Fresco, Texas; a sister, Doris Roush, Highland Park, Ill.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Williamson.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Assembly of God Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery, Lamar, Mo.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Sunday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Robert T. Raynesford

Robert T. Raynesford, 58, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

He was born June 16, 1943, at Garden City, the son of Justin Dale and Ruth W. Woertendyke Raynesford.

A Garden City resident since 1999, moving from Sarasota, Fla., he was a public relations executive with the airline industry. Since 1995, he had worked as a neuromuscular therapist.

Mr. Raynesford was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City.

He is survived by his companion, Jani Wood, Garden City; his mother, Garden City; a son, Derek Raynesford, Germantown, Md.; a sister, Alice Shanaver, Flat Rock, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Inurnment will take place later.

There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Grandchildren's Education Fund, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.

Emalyn Ann Wartman

Johnson CITY - Emalyn Ann Wartman, 69, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson City.

She was born Jan. 5, 1933, at Concordia, the daughter of Wilbur Fred and Esther Ary Thomas Larson.

A resident of Johnson City since 1954, she had been a home economist for the Stanton County Extension Office, worked at Haydens Clothing Store and the ASCS office, and was an active partner in the family business, Wartman Supply.

Mrs. Wartman was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Comos Club, Stanton County Hospital Auxiliary and Stanton County Women's Golf Association. She enjoyed golfing, photography, cross stitching, sewing "Granny Em's" doll clothes, making porcelain dolls, and working with arts and crafts.

On March 18, 1956, she married Cortland Wartman Jr. at Concordia. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Brad Wartman, Albany, N.Y., and Steve Wartman, Buena Vista, Colo.; a daughter, Shari Wiens, Johnson City; a brother, Robert Larson, Medicine Lodge; two sisters, Joyce Hansen, Colby, and Janet Henning, Topeka; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Johnson City, with the Rev. Glenn Fogo officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City.

Visitation hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. today and Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson City. Memorials are suggested to the Stanton County Library, in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson City, KS 67855.

Harry W. Kogler

SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Harry W. Kogler, 91, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Lynne Smith officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mr. Kogler died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

He was born Sept. 8, 1910, in McPherson County, the son of Karl and Emma Hubele Kogler.

On Jan. 11, 1945, he married Irma N. Olson at Assaria. After their marriage, he farmed in the Assaria community for three years before moving to Scott City in 1948. He worked at the Gambles Store for 15 years and then as a janitor for Scott Community High School for 12 years, retiring in 1979.

Mr. Kogler was a member of First Baptist Church, VIP Band, Fiddlers, Pickers & Singers, Scott County Golf Club and the Kiwanis Club, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was active in the church as a board member, singing in the choir, and playing his harmonica and guitar.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Doug Kogler, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Brad Kogler, Coppell, Texas; a sister, Pauline Redden, Gypsum; four granddaughters; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Grace Lavada Simmons

Parish vigil for Grace Lavada Simmons, 84, of Larned, was to be 7 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned. Funeral Mass was to be 11 this morning at the church, with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Burial was to follow in Larned Cemetery.

Mrs. Simmons died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at the Healthcare and Living Center in Larned.

She was born Oct. 18, 1917, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Henry Daniel and Sarah Elizabeth (McClernon) Bird.

A lifetime resident of Larned, she was a homemaker. She belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

On Jan. 18, 1938, she married Vincent Dennis Simmons at Larned. He died March 14, 2001. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Harold Bird.

Survivors include five sons, Vincent H., Garden City, Jerome, Olathe, Joseph and Kevin, both of Larned, and Patrick of Howard; three sisters, Lavada Rowe, Scranton, Veronica Holloman, Topeka, and Monica Schneweis, Dodge City; a brother, Eldred Bird, Raytown, Mo.; a sister, Faye Carpenter, Larned; 25 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund or the Larned Healthcare and Living Center Resident Activity Fund, both in care of Morell Funeral Home, Box 124, Larned, KS 67550.

Mary J. Russell

SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Mary J. Russell, 76, of Gove County, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Healy, with the Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock officiating. Burial will be in Pyramid View Cemetery in Gove County.

Mrs. Russell died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

She was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Logan County, the daughter of Henry Hays and Eva May (Lemons) Williams.

A lifetime resident of Gove County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Church of Oakley.

On July 12, 1942, she married Kenneth I. Russell at Gove. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Larry Russell, Scott City; a grandson; a granddaughter; a sister, Lula Russell, Ulysses; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and four brothers.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to the KSU Center for Basic Cancer Research, in care of the funeral home.

Jeannine Smyth

ULYSSES - Funeral for Lyla Jeannine Smyth, 69, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Mrs. Smyth died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born Sept. 2, 1932, at Mountain View, Mo., the daughter of Lyle Asel and Jeannette Mildreen Arthur. She attended elementary schools in Missouri and graduated from Ulysses High School.

A Ulysses resident for 52 years, she worked at the Ulysses Co-op, was vice president and loan officer at Grant County Bank for 28 years, and was treasurer for Smyth Oil and Gas for 22 years, all at Ulysses.

Mrs. Smyth was a member of Shelton Memorial Christian Church and the Ulysses Bridge Club, and enjoyed cross stitching and cooking.

On June 20, 1954, she married Lester Smyth Jr. at Ulysses. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Blaine Smyth, Elk City, Okla., and Stan Smyth, Ulysses; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a nephew; and a niece. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Linda Arthur Smith.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the Grant County Senior Center or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
