Karen D. Hayzlett

ELKHART - Funeral for Karen D. Hayzlett, 61, of Elkhart, will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rolla Methodist Church, Rolla. Burial will be in Richfield Cemetery, Richfield.

Mrs. Hayzlett, a homemaker, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Morton County Hospital.

She was born Sept. 4, 1940, at Eureka, the daughter of Sherman Wayne and Martha Ione (Morgan) Lewis. She attended school in Greenwood County, graduated from Hamilton High School in 1958 and attended Wichita Business College.

An Elkhart resident for three years, she worked at the Hamilton County Rest Home for several years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Syracuse.

On Dec. 2, 1977, she married Julius "Dean" Hayzlett at Syracuse. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Bill McManess, Dodge City, and John McManess, Syracuse; four daughters, Christy Kemp of Dexter, Kim Schmidt, Syracuse, Carla Beasley and Tish Nielsen, both of Denver; five stepchildren, Debbie Blair, Liberal, Lora Schiffelbein, Topeka, Kenny Hayzlett, Wichita, Judy Nielsen, Syracuse, and Rodney Hayzlett, Joplin, Mo.; five brothers, Keith Lewis, Rolla, Kenneth Lewis, Toronto, Jack Lewis, Wichita, Jerry Lewis, Enid, Okla., and Larry Lewis, Alva, Okla.; three sisters, Katherine Condee, Suffolk, Va., Sylvia Billings, Wilber, Neb., and Rachael Stewart, Friend; 27 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Elvin Lewis; and two grandchildren.

Visitation hours are from 6 to 8 tonight at Harrell Funeral Home, Elkhart. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.

Albert Bernard Rohlman

Vigil service and rosary for Albert Bernard Rohlman, 86, will be 7 tonight at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mr. Rohlman died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Feb. 9, 1916, at Willowdale, the son of Ben and Catherine (Schulte) Rohlman. He grew up and attended schools in Sharon, graduating from Sharon High School.

On Aug. 22, 1939, he married Bertha Osner at Kingman. They moved to southwest Kansas in 1946 and to Garden City in 1959.

Mr. Rohlman worked as a farmer for 45 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus No. 8491, and enjoyed traveling, reading, history, fishing and his pet dogs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Lou Rohlman, Garden City; three daughters, Doris Huslig, Hutchinson, Mildred Rohlman and Catherine Adams, both of Garden City; two brothers, Ray Rohlman, Syracuse, and Jim Rohlman, Kingman; three sisters, Lucille Schaffer, Corona, Calif., Irene Eck, Kingman, and Berniece Silke, Wichita; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fred Rohlman; and an infant sister.

Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Pearl Viola (McVey) Hill

LAKIN - Funeral for Pearl Viola (McVey) Hill, 90, will be 10 a.m. CST Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Lakin, with the Rev. Carley Hazelton officiating. Graveside committal service will follow in Lakin Cemetery.

Mrs. Hill died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.

She was born July 1, 1911, at Bethany, Mo., the daughter of William and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Roach) McVey.

A lifelong resident of Kansas, she moved to Lakin in 1927. She attended rural school and went on to be a certified medication aide, working for Sabo Manor Nursing Center for 20 years. She also owned and operated the Hill Greenhouse in Lakin.

Mrs. Hill was a former member of First Baptist Church in Lakin. She enjoyed antiques, crocheting, sewing, gardening and the greenhouse.

On April 19, 1927, she married Charles E. Hill at Lakin. He died Nov. 18, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 12 brothers, six sisters and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by two sons, Jimmie E. Hill, Syracuse, and Thomas Eugene Hill, Lakin; three daughters, Betty Todd, Elkhart, Doris Jarboe, Topeka, and Judy Ann Hill, Lakin; two brothers, Russell McVey, Lakin, and Jack McVey, Seward, Neb.; two sisters, Louvena Bickford, Camp Verde, Ariz., and Lucille Worley, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are from 5 to 7 CST tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Lakin. Memorials are suggested to High Plains Retirement Village or the American Diabetes Association, both in care of Greene-Fellers Funeral Home & Monuments, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.

Emmadine Lucille Laney

LEOTI - Funeral for Eva J. Snider, 98, will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Franklyn Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery, Syracuse.

Mrs. Snider died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Wichita County Long Term Care Unit in Leoti.

She was born Oct. 23, 1903, at Syracuse, the daughter of Presley E. and Margaret Anna (Hunter) Herndon.

A Leoti resident since September 1992, she had been a nurse's aide and a homemaker. She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Leoti.

On Aug. 6, 1928, she married George H. Snider at Denver. He died Sept. 29, 1999, at Wilson. She was also preceded in death by a son, Hunter Snider; five brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include a son, Herndon A. Snider, Joplin, Mo.; two daughters, Laura J. Neuman, Kanopolis, and Margaret Pritchard, Leoti; 28 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or Wichita County Long Term Care Unit, both in care of the funeral home.

Lorinda Kay Friesen

INGALLS - Funeral for Lorinda Kay Friesen, 20, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Living Hope Mennonite Church, rural Ingalls. Stan Smith, James Koehn and Charles Schmidt, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Living Hope Cemetery in rural Ingalls.

Miss Friesen died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

She was born Dec. 14, 1981, at Dodge City, the daughter of Harley G. and Karen L. (Jantz) Friesen.

A lifetime resident, she was employed by Karl's Super Foods, Montezuma. Among the many things she enjoyed were her family, the outdoors, her pets, sewing and crocheting. She was a member of Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, rural Ingalls.

She is survived by her parents and a brother, Andrew Friesen, of rural Ingalls; her grandmothers, Dorothy Jantz, Montezuma, and Margaret Friesen, Inman; and several uncles, aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jacob A. and Lizzie Jantz, and Pete G. Friesen.

Visitation hours are until 7 tonight at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Minnie J. Walker

Minnie J. Walker, 92, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.

She was born Feb. 21, 1910, at Thomas, Okla., the daughter of Robert P. and Amanda (McAfee) Jones. She spent most of her childhood in Syracuse, graduating from high school there in 1927.

She and Jack Swank were married in 1927 and moved to Garden City in 1929. In 1943, she married Elmer York. Both husbands preceded her in death. She married Roy H. Walker in 1977. He died in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bob Swank; two brothers; and three sisters.

A homemaker, Mrs. Walker's special interest was spending time with her family and organizing family reunions. She was a member of First Christian Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Mariella (Owston) Keller, Garden City; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Chapel, Garden City, with the Rev. Don Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Visitation hours are from 6 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Ben Kubo

TRIBUNE - Funeral for Ben Kubo, 82, of Russell, will be 2 p.m. MST Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Mike Underwood officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.

Mr. Kubo died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson.

He was born Nov. 29, 1919, near Scotts Bluff, Neb., the son of Ujiro and Konami (Kinoto) Kubo.

A Russell resident since 1975, Mr. Kubo was a linotype operator for the Russell County News before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Episcopal Church at Mitchell, Neb., and the Kansas Press Association at Topeka.

On Nov. 4, 1967, he married Lillian Luekenga Huddleston at Laramie, Wyo. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, James R. Huddleston, Colorado Springs, Colo., John F. Huddleston, Wichita, and Jerry L. Huddleston, Tribune; a daughter, Gail Ogle, Russell; a sister, Rose Yamamoto, Gering, Neb.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune. Memorials are suggested to the Russell County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, Russell County Recreation Commission or Greeley County Historical Society at Tribune, all in care of the funeral home, Box 161, Leoti, KS 67861.

Carl 'Doc' Kiesel Sr.

LAKIN - Vigil service for Carl "Doc" Kiesel Sr., 86, will be 7 tonight at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Lakin. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Mike Helms as celebrant. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.

Mr. Kiesel died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at his home in Lakin.

He was born Dec. 7, 1915, at St. Vincent, Ark., the son of Peter Paul and Carolyn M. (Gottsponer) Kiesel. He grew up and attended school in St. Vincent.

Mr. Kiesel served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1942, he moved to Lakin and worked for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Co. for 22 years before becoming a farmer-stockman in Kearny County. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

On Dec. 11, 1939, he married Eva O. Wagner at Fall City, Neb. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Floyd Kiesel, Boise, Idaho, Carl Kiesel Jr., Lakin, and Terry Kiesel, Pueblo West, Colo.; three brothers, Joe Kiesel, Colorado Springs, A.A. Kisel, Lakin, and Christopher Kisel, Benton, Ark.; a sister, Marie Fahey, Pueblo, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald Ray Kiesel; a daughter, Connie Sue Kiesel; and three sisters, Carolyn Hughs, Margaret Miller and Rose Mary Cochran.

Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.

Cathy Michael

HUGOTON - Cathy Michael, 58, of Moscow, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born Dec. 21, 1943, at Dalhart, Texas, the daughter of Robert and Opal (Smith) Black. She graduated from Boise City (Okla.) High School and Liberal Hair Academy.

Mrs. Michael had worked as a beauty operator for several years, for the Kids Connection for nine years and at TLC for three years. She was a member of Church of Christ and the Friendly Neighbors Club, volunteered on the Seward County Rural Fire Department for six years, and was a Girl Scout leader for many years at Moscow. She enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking and sewing.

On Aug. 28, 1966, she married Danny Michael at Hugoton. He survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Laura Hall, Hugoton; a brother, Charles Hawkins, Boise City; two sisters, Marilyn Bayer, Gentry, Ark., and Oleta Sivage, Altus, Ark.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Church of Christ, Liberal, with the Rev. Ron Suiter officiating. Burial will be in Golden Plains Cemetery, Moscow.

Visitation hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to noon Thursday at Miller Mortuary, Liberal. Memorials are suggested to Stevens County Community Health or St. Catherine Hospital's Nursing Program, both in care of the mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln St., Liberal, KS 67905.
