Lola S. Hefner

SUBLETTE - Lola S. Hefner, 93, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and formerly of Sublette, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Pikes Peak Hospice, St. Francis Health Center, Colorado Springs.

She was born Feb. 12, 1909, at Stark, the daughter of William L. and Missouri Frances Raney Cook.

On Aug. 4, 1928, she married Calvin Quentin Hefner Sr. at Girard. They moved from Yates Center to Sublette on Oct. 20, 1944. After his death on July 22, 1981, she moved to Colorado Springs to be near her family.

A homemaker, she enjoyed her family activities, sewing and cooking. She was a member of the Christian Church, Sublette.

She is survived by three daughters, Dr. Gene L. Hicks, Topeka, Vira L. Pinello and Patricia Ann Hefner, both of Colorado Springs; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Calvin Quentin Hefner Jr., in 1963; and a grandson in 1996.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette, with the Rev. David Erwin officiating.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials to the donor's choice may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

Emogene A. Wineinger

TRIBUNE - Emogene A. Wineinger, 79, of Tribune, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.

She was born Sept. 17, 1922, at Trousdale, the daughter of Lamar and Adelmar Brainard Anderson.

Mrs. Wineinger had been the Greeley County Clerk for more than 33 years. She was a member of the Kansas Association of County Clerks, Topeka, and the VFW Auxiliary at Tribune.

In 1940, she married John Park II. They later divorced. In 1950, she married Kenneth Wineinger Jr. They also divorced.

Survivors include two sons, John Park III, Kansas City, and Kent Wineinger, Dodge City; a daughter, Kristine Burch, Catskill, N.Y.; a sister-in-law; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. MDT Thursday in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune, with the Rev. Michael Underwood officiating.

Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune. Memorials are suggested to Greeley County Hospital or Greeley County Long Term Care Unit, both in care of the funeral home.

John Gaschler

SCOTT CITY - Vigil prayer service for John Gaschler, 77, of Scott City, will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Gilbert P. Herrman officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mr. Gaschler died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

He was born Sept. 26, 1924, at Yocemento, the son of Paul and Pauline Gaschler.

A Scott City resident since 1952, moving from Topeka, he was retired from KN Energy. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW Post No. 7773, and the VIP Center, all at Scott City, and the Guadalcanal Campaign Veterans. He had served as corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Nov. 21, 1949, he married Josephine Cunningham at Topeka. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, John Gaschler Jr., Garden City, Thomas A. Gaschler, Cheyenne Wells, Colo., and Edward J. Gaschler, Topeka; two brothers, Richard Gaschler, Modoc, and William Gaschler, Garden City; two sisters, Frances Myers, Tulsa, Okla., and Ruth White, Scott City; and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott County Emergency Medical Technicians or the Scott County VIP Center, all in care of the funeral home.

Viola V. Myers

TRIBUNE - Funeral for Viola V. Myers Satterfield, 94, of Tribune, was to be 2 p.m. MST today at Assembly of God Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Michael Underwood officiating. Burial was to follow in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.

Mrs. Satterfield died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.

She was born March 24, 1908, in Sumner County, the daughter of George E. and Della M. Rutter Hutchins.

A homemaker, she had been a Greeley County resident since 1946, moving from Cowley County. She was a member of Assembly of God Church at Tribune.

On April 8, 1926, she married Paul D. Myers at Wellington. He died Sept. 25, 1968, at Tribune. She married Lee Nimmo in 1972. He died in 1985. In 1986, she married Earl Satterfield. He died in 1988. She was also preceded in death by a sister, two brothers and two grandsons.

On April 16, 2002, she married Marcus Harris. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Paul Myers, Tribune; four daughters, Virginia Lee Martin, San Diego, Clorene Jean Stone, Broken Arrow, Okla., Velma Louise Underwood of Russell, and Viola Pauline Davis, Anchorage, Alaska; a half brother, Lester Hutchins, Tribune; two half sisters, Georgia Dhority, Westminster, Colo., and Rita Burns, Spearfish, S.D.; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Assembly of God Church or the Greeley County Long Term Care Unit, both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune.

Homer O. Evans

ULYSSES - Funeral for Homer O. Evans, 80, of Ulysses, was to be 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, Ulysses, with Dr. Max Clayton officiating. Burial was to follow in Golden Cemetery, Ulysses, with military rites conducted.

Mr. Evans died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

He was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Kiowa County, the son of Budd and Nora Linton Evans. He graduated from Haviland Rural High School in 1941.

A Grant County resident since 1949, he farmed, ranched and managed the Gano-Bunge Corporation Elevator at Mile Post. He was a member of the American Agriculture Movement, First United Methodist Church of Ulysses and Masonic Lodge No. 435, where he recently had received his 50-year certificate. He also belonged to the Santa Fe Trail Association, American Legion Post No. 79 and the Mid America Air Museum Foundation, was a charter member of the U.S. Holocaust Museum, was a lifelong supporter of 4-H, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, being awarded the Presidential Citation.

On May 26, 1947, he married Bertha M. Bohling at Meade. She survives. He also is survived by three daughters, Ethel Evans, Ulysses, Hazel Evans, Livingston, N.J., and Tanja Harrison, Lawrence; two brothers, Merle Evans, Demming, N.M., and Arnold Evans, Salina; a sister, Esther Roberts, Cyril, Okla.; and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Roy and Floyd Evans; and a sister, Margaret Patee.

Memorials are suggested to the U.S. Holocaust Museum or the donor's choice, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

Beula M. Brown

HEALY - Beula M. Brown, 92, of Healy, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.

She was born Dec. 7, 1909, in Gove County, the daughter of Thomas J. and Julia Ann Gabler Cavanaugh.

A Healy resident since 1964, moving from the farm in South Gove County, she was a farmer, stockman and homemaker.

Mrs. Brown belonged to the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Triple S Club, all at Healy.

On Oct. 26, 1929, she married Thorne J. Brown at WaKeeney. He died March 23, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kyle Robert Brown; and nine sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Carole W. Bennett, Healy; a daughter-in-law; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Healy, with the Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock officiating. Burial will be in Healy Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 tonight, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of Healy or the Healy Emergency Medical Technicians, both in care of the funeral home.

George M. 'Bo' Leavitt

George M. "Bo" Leavitt, 66, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Feb. 25, 1936, at St. George, Utah, the son of Parley Glen and Lovena Hafen Leavitt. He grew up in Mesquite, Nev., attending schools there.

After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1956, he moved to Denver where he worked as a station engineer for Adolph Coors Co. before starting his own realty business, Leavitt Realty.

On June 7, 1980, he married Kathy Gross at Arvada, Colo. They lived in Houston for about two years, where he sold fire equipment before returning to Arvada for a short time before moving to Garden City in 1982. While in Garden City, he had his own trucking company for a short time, C.J.J.T. Inc. Trucking Co. He then started his own rental property business.

Mr. Leavitt was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Shriners, both at Arvada, and served as a volunteer fireman in Arvada for 18 years. He enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, woodworking, hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Brian Scott Leavitt, Denver; a daughter, Theresa A. Hahn, Loveland, Colo.; three brothers, Merlin Leavitt, Jerome, Idaho, Edward Leavitt, Las Vegas, and Gerald Leavitt, Roosevelt, Utah; two sisters, Della Bunker, Mesquite, Nev., and Mary Ann Jensen, Washington, Utah; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Allen Leavitt; five brothers, LeRoy, Hafen, Pete, Roger and Ned Leavitt; and a sister, Pansy Hardy.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. A private family committal service will take place later.

There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Edna May Biernacki

Vigil service for Edna May Biernacki, 80, of Garden City, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Biernacki died Friday, May 10, 2002, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

She was born Jan. 29, 1922, at Plympton, England, the daughter of John and Eva Small Wright, and grew up in England. She served in England for the Royal Navy from 1941 to 1945.

On July 27, 1945, she married John Fred Biernacki at Plympton. After they moved to Garden City in 1946, she attended Garden City Community College. A homemaker, Mrs. Biernacki had worked as a nurse's aide at St. Catherine Hospital for 11 years.

She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, the Senior Center of Finney County, VFW Auxiliary and the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, watching baseball, ice skating, playing the piano and fishing.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five sons, Phillip Biernacki, Chadron, Neb., Frank Biernacki, Bamburg, S.C., Mike and Nick Biernacki, both of Holcomb, and Greg Biernacki, Garden City; three daughters, Rosemarie Blanco, Bridgeport, Neb., Mary Shipley, Seaside, Ore., and Jacqueline Dunne, Battleground, Wash.; a brother, Bert Wright, Plymouth, England; 23 grandchildren; numerous stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Veronica Biernacki; two brothers, Jack and Sidney Wright; and a grandson.

Visitation hours are until 6:30 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the St. Dominic School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
