Tomas G. Rodriguez Jr.

TRIBUNE - Tomas Galvan Rodriguez Jr., 88, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.

He was born March 2, 1914, at Aquacatillos, Mexico, the son of Pablo and Gregoria Galvan Rodriguez.

A farmer, he had been a Greeley County resident since 2000, moving from Mexico. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tribune.

On Jan. 9, 1950, he married Luisa Rivera at Rayon, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. She survives. He is also survived by five sons, Joel, Obregon, Mexico, Tomas Jr., Tribune, Serafin, Mexico City, Mexico, Anastacio, Lamar, Colo., and Ascension, Hidalgo, Mexico; four daughters, Juana Rodriguez, Port Isabel, Texas, Yolanda and Caritina Rodriguez, both of Hidalgo, and Amparo Rodriguez, Obregon; 27 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted in Obregon. Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti, is in charge of local arrangements. Memorials to the Tomas G. Rodriguez Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 161, Leoti, KS 67861.

Evelyn Mae Sherwood

SCOTT CITY - Evelyn Mae Sherwood, 66, of Merriam, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

She was born in Holly, Colo., and had worked as a nurse's aide.

Survivors include a daughter, Shannon Roemer, Mission; three sons, Brent Sherwood, Upland, Neb., Loid Sherwood, Glasco, and Lance Sherwood, Augusta; a sister, Alonna Shearmire, Coweta, Okla.; a half sister, Betty Morgan, Wyoming; and two brothers, Calvin Leonard Comer, Lamar, and Lester Vaughn Comer, Richmond, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Sherwood, in 1994, and a brother, Virgil Lee Comer.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City. A luncheon will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Baptist Church in Scott City.

Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee is in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd Lipe

SATANTA - Lloyd Lipe, 76, of Satanta, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born June 23, 1926, at Eaton, Colo., the son of Arthur C. and Margaret F. Gastin Lipe.

A Satanta resident since 1998, moving from Leetonia, Ohio, he was a construction worker and farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, belonged to the VFW of Washingtonville, Ohio, and was a member of the Baptist faith.

On Oct. 31, 1949, he married Catherine H. Garwood at Reno, Nev. She died Aug. 5, 1993, at Salem, Ohio.

He is survived by two sons, Phillip L. Lipe and Vaughn E. Lipe, both of Sublette; a daughter, Yvonne J. Smith, Leetonia; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Lisbon (Ohio) Cemetery.

There will be no local visitation. Memorials to the Lloyd Lipe Memorial Fund may be sent in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.

Harold Keith McMillan

Harold Keith McMillan, 89, Longmont, Colo., died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at the Life Care Center of Longmont.

He was born Dec. 7, 1913, at Hutchinson, the son of Jesse and Verna Josephine Coleman McMillan.

Mr. McMillan was the manager of the F.W. Woolworth Co. in Arkansas City from 1940 to 1946 and the manager of the company's Longmont branch from 1947 to 1957. He later became a sales representative for Buzza Cardoza Greeting Card Co. and Gibson Greeting Card Co. In 1979, he went to work for Flatiron Postcard Co. and had numerous customers in the Boulder and Estes Park areas in Colorado. He retired in 1990.

After moving to Estes Park in 1959, he and his wife, Ethel May (Easterday) McMillan, owned Estes Flower Haven before returning to Longmont in 1983.

Mr. McMillan was past president of the Longmont Junior Chamber of Commerce and a long-standing member of the Kiwanis Club of Longmont where he served twice as president. He was an avid fly fisherman and could often be seen fishing at Sprague Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Survivors include a son, Robert K. McMillan, Boulder; a daughter, Rita K. Schageman, Estes Park; two brothers, Ted and Jim McMillan, both of Garden City; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a brother, Donald McMillan; and a daughter-in-law.

Cremation has taken place at Howe Mortuary and Crematory in Longmont. A private family service is planned for later. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Boulder County, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO 80026.

Richard 'Dick' Oliver

Graveside service for Richard K. "Dick" Oliver, 82, of Wichita, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Douglass Cemetery, Douglass.

Mr. Oliver died Sunday, July 7, 2002.

A retired salesman, he had lived in the Denver area from 1982 to 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Oliver, Wichita; three sons, Bernard Oliver, Garden City, Steven Oliver, Wichita, and Richie Oliver, address unknown; a sister, Betty Cogswell, Topeka; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Culbertson Smith Mortuary, Wichita.

Harold James Parsley

SYRACUSE - Harold James Parsley, 93, of Syracuse, died Friday, July 5, 2002, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

He was born July 20, 1908, at Herman, Neb., the son of Ome and Mary Reyzlik Parsley. He spent his early childhood years in Herman before the family moved to Coolidge in 1921. He attended Coolidge Consolidated School, graduating in 1927.

On July 14, 1927, he married Verona Laubach Parsley at Syracuse. She died Aug. 30, 1993. He also was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Barton Parsley; his parents; a granddaughter; a grandson; and a son-in-law.

Mr. Parsley's life's work was devoted to public service, beginning in 1929 when his 41-year civil service career began at the Holly (Colo.) Post Office. In 1935, the family moved to Syracuse, and he transferred to the Syracuse Postal Department where he worked until his retirement Dec. 7, 1972. After retiring, he was the assistant Hamilton County assessor for four years and also drove a school bus for special needs students.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Syracuse and served on many church committees, was a past Noble Grand of the former Coolidge I.O.O.F., a member of the Coolidge Alumni Association and had belonged to the American Postal Workers Union for many years and the National Federation of Postal Clerks for 30 years.

He contributed to community projects and was involved with the organizing and promoting of Little League Baseball. In 1953, he was past president of the Kansas and Colorado Baseball League, which is semi-pro baseball and is associated with the National Baseball Congress of Wichita. In addition to baseball, he enjoyed traveling and writing poetry.

He is survived by two daughters, Nola Jean Rogers, Chama, N.M., and Janet Darlene Raney, Divide, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Anna Raney, Syracuse; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. MDT Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel officiating. He plans to read poems written by Mr. Parsley. Graveside committal service will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.

Visitation hours are until 8 MDT tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. MDT Tuesday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Syracuse, Little League Baseball of Syracuse, Pikes Peak Hospice or the Keith and Rick Rogers Scholarship Fund, all in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.

Carl Wesley Fellers

HUGOTON - Carl Wesley Fellers, 83, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton.

He was born Sept. 7, 1918, at Kismet, the son of Floyd Rollin "Roll" and Mary Mable Morris Fellers. He grew up on the family farm at Kismet, graduated from Kismet High School in 1939 and attended Fort Hays State University for two years.

A Kismet resident from 1918 until moving to Hugoton in 1959, he farmed in the Kismet, Moscow and Hugoton areas with his father and brothers until his retirement in 1984.

Mr. Fellers belonged to VFW Post No. 5391 at Hugoton and served as past Quarter Master and past Commander of District 8. He served in the U.S. Army from April 6, 1942, to March 24, 1946, serving in Italy and the European Theater. His hobbies included fishing, and he had bowled in leagues in the 1960s and 1970s.

On Nov. 7, 1959, he married Ada Vivian Moore at Hugoton. She died Feb. 26, 1991. He also was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Lloyd, Archie Paul, Theodore "Ted" Leroy, William Andrew "Bill," Floyd Chester and Glen Morris Fellers; an infant brother, Leslie Bernard Fellers; and a sister, Ellen Iona "Onie" Miller-Parnell.

He is survived by a stepson, Glen McQueen, Hugoton; a stepdaughter, Nancy Walter, Olathe; two sisters, Ruby Pearl Lewis, Liberal, and Mary Elizabeth Lewis, Kismet; a brother, John Rollin Fellers, Hugoton; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. CDT Thursday at First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Prior to the service, the family will gather at 11 a.m CDT at the church for a flower card reading and lunch. Graveside committal service will be in Hugoton Cemetery, with full honors conducted by the Fort Riley military group.

Visitation hours, conducted by Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse, will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT Tuesday and Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to VFW Post No. 5391 of Hugoton, in care of Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.

Shadoh Celeste Ward

Funeral for Shadoh Celeste Ward, 13-month-old daughter of Brian Weis and Heather Ward, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Racine (Mo.) Christian Church, with Bruce Sneed officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem, Mo.

Shadoh died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at her home near Neosho, Mo.

She was born May 21, 2001, at Garden City.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Butch and Pam Ward, Neosho, and Janet and Marvin Weis, Syracuse; and her great-grandparents, Jean and Keith Blubaugh, Warner, Okla., and Sharon Mott, Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the Cerebral Palsy Center, in care of Clark Funeral Home, Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850.
