Milton Earl Burnett

Milton Earl Burnett, 102, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital.

He was born June 20, 1900, in Stafford County, the son of Frank and Rosa (Jacobs) Burnett.

He lived in Manter since 1929, with the exception of time in Greeley, Colo., between 1946 and 1962. He was a 78-year member of the Johnson Masonic Lodge, a member of the United Methodist Church, served on the Manter school board and worked on both the Manter Grade School and the Manter dam. He also was a member of the Manter Grange and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Greeley. He was named 2002 Pioneer of the Year.

He married Audra Lee Ogle in Springfield, Colo., Nov. 26, 1934. She died Dec. 19, 1991.

He is survived by his three daughters, Velda Folger, Manter, Bonnie Eckas, Johnson, and Cliffie DeCasper of Carson City, Nev.; a sister, Opal Deuel, Norwalk, Calif.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; four brothers, Cecil Burnett, Ralph Burnett, Cliff Burnett and Bumont Burnett; and a sister, Ruth Kilgore.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Manter, with the Rev. Kevin Seuser officiating. Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson.

Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

The family suggests memorials be given to the United Methodist Church in Manter, Manter Church Scholarship Fund or the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.

Edgar Milton Knobloch

Edgar Milton Knobloch, 83, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, west of Liberal as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born Aug. 25, 1919, in Meridian, the son of Merl and Daisy (Money) Knobloch. After moving from Larned, he was a resident of Hugoton for 30 years and operated a shoe repair shop. He also worked for the Kansas Corporation Commission before retiring in 1984.

He married Dorothy Jane Calonder on Oct. 30, 1945, in Nickerson. She preceded him in death Feb. 2, 1996.

He was a WWII veteran, specifically a survivor of Iwo Jima, and a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hugoton. He also was an avid golfer and supporter of the Hugoton Country Club.

He is survived by two sons, David Knobloch, Spokane, Wash., and Dean Knobloch, Fritch, Texas; two brothers, Gene Knobloch, Houston, and Fred Knobloch, Reno, Nev.; a sister, Martha Patterson, Ramona, Calif.; five grandchildren, Jamie Brewer, Matt Knobloch and Lisa Knobloch of Spokane, Jeff Knobloch, Amarillo, Texas, and Tommy Knobloch, Dallas; and two great-grandchildren, Josh Knobloch, Spokane, and Ty Knobloch, Amarillo.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three brothers, Marion "Bo" Knobloch, Don Knobloch and Glen Knobloch; and three sisters, Dorothy Biles, Bernice "Sissy" Stokes and Naomi Knobloch.

The funeral will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Hugoton, with the Rev. James Lucas presiding.

A military graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Highland Cemetery in Winfield, with Gene Knobloch presiding and VFW Post No. 3544 conducting military honors.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Saturday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Memorials have been established for the Faith Lutheran Church and the Hugoton Senior Citizens Center. Memorials may be mailed in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Earl S. Shelton

Earl S. Shelton, 65, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.

He was born March 4, 1937, in Stevens County, the son of Merle S. and Hilda (Beckman) Shelton.

A lifetime resident of Stevens County, he enjoyed antique tractors, camping, farming and traveling to south Texas and Arizona. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Hugoton, Masonic Lodge No. 406 of Hugoton and the Mid America Antique Tractor Association.

He married Barbara Phifer May 26, 1956, in Hugoton.

He is survived by his wife of Hugoton; two sons, Mike Shelton and Rick Shelton, both of Hugoton; a brother, Larry Shelton, Woodward, Okla.; three sisters, Ruby Rowden, Hugoton, Pearl Phillips, Pecos, Texas, and Ruth Zimmerman, Hiawatha; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry Shelton; a sister, Esther Dunham; and a grandson, Jerimy Shelton.

Friends may call 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday, and 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral Saturday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding. Burial will be in the Hugoton Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his name for the American Heart Fund and can be mailed in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Nancy Ann Cowser

Nancy Ann Cowser, 45, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born Sept. 17, 1956, in Hugoton, the daughter of Virgil E. and Betty L. (Wilmut) Wilcox.

A lifetime resident of the area, she graduated from Rolla High School and married Robert Dale Cowser March 29, 1975, in Hugoton. A homemaker, her hobbies included traveling, line dancing, fishing, darts and pool.

She is survived by a daughter, Robin D. Cowser, Hugoton; her mother of Hugoton; a brother, Bobby Lee Wilcox, Seattle; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Terry Ray Wilcox.

Friends may call 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Rolla Cemetery, Rolla, with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.

A memorial has been established for the family and can be mailed to Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Helen Claudine Grauberger

FORT COLLINS - Helen Claudine Grauberger, 86, died Sept. 8, 2002 at Fort Collins. She was a Garden City and Deerfield resident for 60 years before moving to Fort Collins in 1976.

She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Illinois, the daughter of Louis Dudley DeBelle and Daisy Elizabeth Howard.

She married George Grauberger. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Crystal Claudette Wilcox; one sister, Millicent Debelle Whitwell; five grandchildren; and six great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Clark Dean Corbett and Rockne Lane Grauberger.

Memorial services are pending. Inurnment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Fort Collins.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Deerfield Methodist Church Music department, 201 Eighth St., Deerfield, KS 67838.

Sophia Lizzie Redger

Sophia Lizzie Redger, 94, of Montezuma, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at Bethel Home, Inc. in Montezuma.

She was born February 24, 1908 in Coy, Okla., the daughter of Jacob B. and Katie (Wedel) Eck.

She married Adam R. Redger May 18, 1927, in Dodge City, and they lived on a farm between Greensburg and Coldwater for 15 years. In 1943, they moved to Abilene. She later moved to Montezuma in 1990.

She was a homemaker and pie maker at Abilene Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1978. She attended the Brethren in Christ Church in Abilene, was a member of the church's sewing circle and taught child evangelism in her home. She also attended Morningside Community Church in Montezuma and taught Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Redger, Liberal, Ernest Redger, Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Charles "Chuck" Redger, Aurora Colo.; a daughter, Naomi Base, Susanville, Calif.; a brother, Arthur J. Eck, Willits, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren, and six stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Community Church, with the Rev. Lyn Hansen presiding. Graveside service will be 5 p.m. the same day at the Bethel Cemetery in Abilene. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Montezuma Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established for Montezuma Funeral Home and Bethel Home Inc., and may be mailed to Montezuma Funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67846.

Kenneth A. Peters

Kenneth A. Peters, 20, of Yucaipa, Calif., died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, in Redlands, Calif.

He was born July 15, 1982, in Lake Havasu, Ariz., the son of Richard J. and Debbie Schultz Peters. A former resident of Colorado and Arizona, he had been living in Yucaipa since July. He was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by his father in Arizona; his mother, of Holcomb; a half-brother, Andrew Peters, Golden Valley, Ariz.; a half-sister, Atalie Peters, Golden Valley; and grandparents Kenneth and Sara Peters, Golden Valley, and Dean and Annlisa Schultz, Canon City, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Rosne Ladd; a stepgrandfather, Samuel Ladd; and a stepfather, Dale Shafer.

Memorial service was Friday in Yucaipa. Interment will take place at a later date.

The family requests memorials be given to the Kenneth Peters Memorial Fund, in care of Price & Sons Funeral home, 620 N. Main St., Garden City.
