Jessica Lee Kowalke

Funeral for Jessica Lee Kowalke, 14, was 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Cimarron, with the Rev. Frank DeFisher officiating. Burial was at St. Michael Cemetery in southwest Hodgeman County.

Jessica died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

She was born Dec. 21, 1987, at Garden City, the daughter of Kenneth and Lyn Snyder Kowalke. A former student in the Ingalls school system, she was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Youth Group, both at Kalvesta, and belonged to Gray County 4-H, Sandhill Vacqueros Saddle Club and the Beef Empire Day Cutting Horse Association at Garden City.

She is survived by her mother, Dodge City; her father, Ingalls; a sister, Josey Kowalke, Dodge City; a half sister, Jill Stubbes, Iowa; a half brother, Jace Stubbes, Garden City; her grandparents, Raymond and Patricia Snyder, Dodge City, and Raymond and Evelyn Kowalke, Garden City; and her great-grandmother, Juanita Smith of Texas.

Memorials are suggested to the Gray County 4-H Foundation or the Sandhill Vacqueros Saddle Club, both in care of Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore.

James 'Jay' Creamer

MANTER - Memorial service for James "Jay" Creamer, 82, of Manter, was 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Manter, with the Rev. Kevin Seuser officiating. Private family inurnment is scheduled at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson.

Mr. Creamer died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at his home.

He was born April 3, 1920, at Treece, the son of Delbert Creamer and Frances Curl Creamer Buhrer.

A Manter resident since 1927, he was a farmer and rancher, had been a car salesman and school bus driver and operated the Manter swimming pool. He was a past recipient of the Kansas Bankers Award for conservation.

On Feb. 19, 1940, he married Velda Butch Von Hemel at Ulysses. She survives. He also is survived by a daughter, Loretta Bearce, Johnson; a brother, Rich Creamer, Pahrump, Nev.; a sister, Madge Pryor; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Carl Creamer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Manter United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.

Stella Eleveta Williams

ULYSSES - Stella Eleveta Williams, 86, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Family Health West in Fruita, Colo.

She was born Aug. 5, 1916, at Tyrone, Okla., the daughter of George W. and Nora F. Lassiter Hawkins. The family moved to Elkhart, where she graduated from Elkhart High School.

A homemaker, she had lived in Guymon, Okla., at San Diego and Modesto, Calif., and in Ulysses and Grand Junction. She was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star.

In 1934, she married J.D. Norwood. He died March 5, 1953. On Nov. 21, 1957, she married Irving Williams at Clayton, N.M. He died April 8, 1994. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Kessler and Velma Copper.

Survivors include a son, George F. "Bud" Norwood, Grand Junction; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mennonite Brethren Church, Ulysses. Nathan Gift, pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Liberal Cemetery Mausoleum, Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to the Mennonite Brethren Church Youth Fund, 837 N. Baughman, Ulysses, KS 67880.

Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses, is in charge of arrangements.

Alvin J. Komlofske

Vigil service for Alvin J. Komlofske, 75, will be 5 p.m. today at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Knights of Columbus and Daughters of Isabella rosaries will follow. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with military graveside rites conducted by Garden City Area Veterans.

Mr. Komlofske died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Oct. 31, 1926, at Garden City, the son of Joseph and Adeline Boxler Komlofske, and grew up in the Holcomb area. After graduating from Holcomb High School in 1944, he served in the U.S. Army attached to the War Department of the Pentagon.

Mr. Komlofske worked at Burtis Motors in Garden City for 26 years. He left the company as general manager in 1980 to start his own business, Komlofske Motors Inc., which he owned and operated from 1980 to 1994.

He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, the American Legion and the American Historical Society Germans from Russia, Sunflower Chapter of Genealogy. He was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus member in which he served as Faithful Navigator, Scout Master, Grand Knight, State Deputy, State Master and on numerous committees. He also belonged to Finney County Genealogy and the Senior Center of Finney County, volunteered at St. Catherine Hospital, and enjoyed genealogy, gardening and reading.

On Jan. 30, 1950, he married Dorothy Stebens at Garden City. She survives. He also is survived by five sons, Rodney Komlofske, Fayetteville, N.C., Joseph Komlofske, Salina, Mike Komlofske, Garden City, Patrick Komlofske, Overland Park, and James Komlofske, Bailey, Colo.; two daughters, Marilyn Herrman, Wichita, and Donna Estes, Bennett, Colo.; three brothers, Don Komlofske, Garden City, Robert and Dick Komlofske, both of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Evert and Everlyn Komlofske; and a sister, Lucinda Reber.

Visitation hours are until 4 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Knights of Columbus Commitment to Humanity, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Denise Joann Hendricks

TRIBUNE - Denise Joann Hendricks, 36, of Sharon Springs, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.

She was born July 18, 1966, at Stayton, Ore., the daughter of Donald and Doris Courtney Hendricks.

A Sharon Springs resident since 1998, moving from Oregon, she was a CNA at Perry Manor Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Sharon Springs.

She is survived by her husband, John Hutson of Sharon Springs; a son, Aaron Hutson, and a daughter, Heather Hutson, both of the home; her mother and stepfather, Doris and Leonard Alumbaugh, Sharon Springs; a brother, David Hendricks, Sharon Springs; two sisters, Donna Baker, McClarey, Wash., and Deana Chastain, Salem, Ore.; two stepbrothers, Cory and Chris Alumbaugh, both of Salem; a stepsister, Debby Dillard, Seattle; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service is planned later at High Plains Baptist Church in Sharon Springs.

Memorials are suggested to the Aaron and Heather Hutson Education Fund, in care of First State Bank in Sharon Springs.

Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune, is in charge of arrangements.

Jeaninne McCarthy

Jeaninne McCarthy, 72, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Overland Park.

She was born July 9, 1930, in Clovis, N.M., the daughter of H.E. and Myrtle Baugh.

On Jan. 9, 1949, she married C.E. "Mac" McCarthy in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Mrs. McCarthy lived in Overland Park and had previously resided in Garden City and Lakin. She owned The Quilt Rack in Garden City and spread the art and love of quilting and needlework throughout western Kansas. She was involved in the early cattle industry of western Kansas and was an office manager at Kearny County Feeders, Finney County Feedyard and Scott County Feedyard.

Her husband died in 1976. She also was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Michael E. McCarthy, in 1995.

She is survived by her daughter, Patty Yeradi, Overland Park; her daughter-in-law, Susan Sloan McCarthy of Gordon, Neb.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial service will be Nov. 9 in Garden City. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery. Service locations are pending and will be announced later.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jeaninne McCarthy Memorial Fund, in care of Charter Funerals, 10250 Shawnee Mission Pkwy., Shawnee Mission, KS 66203.

Sally Vidaurri

Sally Vidaurri, 92, a former Garden City resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002.

She was born Feb. 3, 1911, at Carriozozo, N.M. A homemaker, she had lived in Vista, Calif., for 38 years.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Fernando Vidaurri of Vista; three sons, Fernando Vidaurri Jr., San Diego, Robert Vidaurri, New Mexico, and Edward Vidaurri, Oceanside, Calif.; three daughters, Shirley Hernandez, Texas, Norma Schyberg, New York, and Vickie Pacheco, New Mexico; two brothers, Albert and Frank Sanchez, both of California; eight sisters, Anita Palamino, Julia Rogers, Mary Burns and Beatrice Edwards, all of California, Lilly Fierrero and Charlotte Gonzales, both of New Mexico, Ruth Carrillo, Colorado, and Gertrude Sanchez, Texas; 24 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was the sister of the late Frank Medina Sr.

Rosary was 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at Eternal Hills Mortuary, Vista. Funeral was 11 a.m. Oct. 21 at the mortuary. Burial followed at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Cody Ryan Browning

SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Cody Ryan Browning, the infant son of Josh D. Browning and Taney M. Coberly of Modoc, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, with the Rev. Robert Nuckolls officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Cody was born Oct. 24, 2002, and died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Alexis Mendenhall, Modoc; his grandparents, Roy and Patti Browning, Holcomb, Tom and Virginia Proctor, Scott City, and Tom and Cindy Coberly of Eldon; and his great-grandparents, John and Alice Vierthaler of Anthony, Al and Merlyn Coberly, Dighton, and Dellene Proctor of Dighton.

Visitation hours are until 7 tonight and 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Cody Browning Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Rex 'Mike' Anderson

Rex M. "Mike" Anderson, 55, of Augusta and formerly of Richfield and Rolla, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Robert Doyle VA Hospital in Wichita.

He was born Aug. 31, 1947, at Liberal, the son of Harold and Hope Chambers Anderson. He went to Rolla Grade School, graduated from Rolla High School, and attended three years of college at Fort Hays State College.

A farmer, Mr. Anderson enjoyed tilling the soil and watching the crops grow. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War, and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Richfield and the Paralyzed Veterans Of America. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

On June 21, 1968, he married Myrla Trahern at Rolla. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Trex Anderson, Augusta; two daughters, Mendee and Marcee Anderson, both of Augusta; his mother, Rolla; three brothers, Harold "Ike" Anderson, Truesdale, Bobby Anderson, Rolla, and Thaine Anderson, Cawker City; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Richfield, with the Rev. Bob Stout officiating. Military graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Chaplain Maynard Peterson will officiate.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.
