Leopoldo 'Polo' Tamez Rodriguez

DEERFIELD - Rosary for Leopoldo "Polo" Tamez Rodriguez, 23, of Deerfield, will be 7 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Salvation Army Church, 216 N. Ninth St., in Garden City, with Capt. Harold Frost officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mr. Rodriguez died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.

He was born June 14, 1979, at Garden City, the son of Leopoldo Rodriguez and Margarita Tamez Reyes. He grew up in Garden City and attended schools there.

Mr. Rodriguez was registered as a junior soldier and a volunteer for the Salvation Army. He loved spending time with his family, his friends and his dog, and also enjoyed composing songs with his cousins and friends, listening to music and working on the computer.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia Rodriguez, a daughter, Natasha Rodriguez, and a son, Andrew Rodriguez, all of Ault, Colo.; his mother and stepfather, Margarita and Jose Guadalupe Reyes, Deerfield; his father, Texas; three brothers, Manuel Garcia, Greeley, Colo., Miguel Gonzalez and Joel Vargas, both of Deerfield; a stepsister, Darlene Rodriguez, Texas; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Antonio Rodriguez, Garden City, and Celedonia Balderrama Olivas, Mexico; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the Leopoldo Tamez Rodriguez Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Lucille O. Fetterolf

Lucille O. Fetterolf, 89, of Topeka, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at a Topeka hospice.

She was born July 13, 1913, at Iuka, the daughter of Charles and Katherine Ferris Hacker. She graduated from Garden City High School.

On Oct. 24, 1936, she married Edward H. Fetterolf at Grand Junction, Colo. They owned and operated a dry cleaning business in Grand Junction for 21 years before moving in 1957 to Farmington, N.M. They then owned and operated Eddie Lu's Fine Apparel from 1957 until retiring in 1993.

Mrs. Fetterolf was a member of Bethany Christian Church in Farmington and was a past regional director of the New Mexico Retail Association.

She is survived by a son, Boyd Fetterolf, Topeka; a daughter, Rhonda Lowery, Sugar Land, Texas; a sister, Alice Spencer, Paso Robles, Calif.; three granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. Her husband died Dec. 28, 1997.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Christian Church, Farmington. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington.

The family will receive friends 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Bethany Christian Church, 711 E. 30th, Farmington, NM 87401, or Midland Hospice House, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.

Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home is in charge of Topeka arrangements, and La Quey Funeral Home is in charge of Farmington arrangements.

Wanda Olive Moore

SATANTA - Graveside service for Wanda Olive Moore, 84, of Satanta and formerly of Garden City, was to be 2 p.m. today at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. Ray Tweed officiating.

Miss Moore died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit, where she had been a resident for five years.

She was born Sept. 26, 1918, at Satanta, the daughter of Elmer Adam and Ida S. Sorum Moore. A lifetime resident of the area, she enjoyed reading her Bible.

She is survived by a nephew, Bill A. King, Garden City; two great-nephews, Chris King, Satanta, and Jeff King, Galveston, Texas; and a great-niece, Julie Brennaman, Garden City. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Verda B. King, Gardner.

Memorials are suggested to Satanta Long Term Care Unit, in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

David Lynn Bennett

SYRACUSE - Funeral for David Lynn Bennett, 43, of Syracuse, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel officiating. Graveside committal service will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.

Mr. Bennett died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Dec. 1, 1958, at Syracuse, the son of Max Sr. and Rose Crotinger Bennett.

After attending Syracuse High School, he moved to Pratt and to Woodward, Okla., where he worked in the oil fields. In 1987, he returned to Syracuse, where he was a self-employed carpenter who enjoyed helping others.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Syracuse and enjoyed collecting coins and belt buckles, wood carving, hunting arrowheads in the sandhills, tanking on the river, and watching wrestling on television. He enjoyed his five Chihuahua dogs and also had other animals such as birds, chickens, a cow, donkeys and peacocks. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by two sons, Shawn Bennett, Syracuse, and Joshua Bennett, Pratt; two daughters, Angela and Daniele Bennett, both of Syracuse; his father, Syracuse; his mother, Syracuse; two sisters, Patricia Knipp, Dodge City, and Dorothy Munyan, Garden City; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Lee Bennett, in 1987, and Max Bennett Jr., in 1996.

Visitation hours are until 6 MST tonight at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home & Monuments, Syracuse. Memorials are suggested to Hamilton County Emergency Medical Technicians, in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.

Alfred J. Kelly

LAKIN - Alfred J. Kelly, 81, of Longwood, Fla., died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Life Care Center of Altamonte Springs in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

He was born Sept. 24, 1921, the son of Daniel P. and Lillian Hill Kelly.

Mr. Kelly worked for many years as a contract sales manager for General Electric. Because of his job, he lived in various places, including Arlington, Va., Wichita, Kansas City, Denver and Charlotte, N.C. In 1984, he moved to Longwood. His special interests were his work and gardening, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.

On Nov. 3, 1945, he married Edith M. Kleeman at Arlington. She died Aug. 25, 1994.

He is survived by a wife Solphia and three sons, Bob Kelly, Winter Garden, Fla., Steve Kelly, River Hills, S.C., and Brad Kelly, Mountain View, Calif.; two brothers, Piff Kelly, Phoenix, and Henry Kelly, Casper City, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lakin Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating.

Visitation hours are 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin.

Lynette Rhoades Derosier

Funeral for Lynette Rhoades Derosier, 53, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. Burial will be in Quinter Cemetery, Quinter.

Mrs. Derosier died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at her home in Garden City.

She was born March 29, 1949, at Quinter, the daughter of Wayne and Doris Jamison Rhoades.

A Garden City resident since 1992, moving from Providence, R.I., she was an administrative assistant for Applebee's Restaurant in Garden City.

On May 6, 1994, she married Leo Derosier at Garden City. He survives. She also is survived by a son, Scott Frost, Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Faith Salyer, Garden City, and Danielle Rouleau, Newport News, Va.; her father and stepmother, Wayne and Phyllis Rhoades, Quinter; two brothers, Bob Rhoades, Quinter, and Rick Rhoades, Hoxie; and three grandsons. She was preceded in death by her mother.

There will be no visitation. Memorials to the Lynette Rhoades Derosier Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.

Clara Belle Handlin

Clara Belle Handlin, 83, of Garden City, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002.

A homemaker, she was born July 8, 1919, at Jetmore.

She is survived by two sons, Fred Handlin, Garden City, and Carl Handlin, Mount Prospect, Ill.; a daughter, Velma Whittle, Kensington, Conn.; two brothers, James Hull, Wichita, and Robert Hull, Las Vegas; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Handlin, in 1995.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, Salina. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Lois Pepper Heard

Funeral for Lois Pepper Heard, 78, of Starkville, Miss., a former resident of Garden City and Jackson, Miss., will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Starkville. Graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Jackson. The Rev. Sara Burress will officiate.

Mrs. Heard died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, in Tupelo, Miss.

She was born Feb. 23, 1924, on the family farm in Vaughan, Miss., one of 12 children.

On Nov. 30, 1944, she married Dr. Kenneth Martin Heard. After his discharge from World War II service at Fort Dix, N.J., the couple lived primarily in Jackson and Garden City, where Mrs. Heard graduated from nursing school in 1987. She worked as a psychiatric nurse at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City from 1987 until 1996.

Mrs. Heard was an avid golfer, bridge player, cook, art collector and gardener. She belonged to the United Presbyterian Church in Garden City and attended Trinity Presbyterian Church in Starkville.

She is survived by two sisters, Lessel Deason of Vaughan and Susie Lee Crews, Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Julia Heard, Starkville; three sons, Kenneth Martin Heard Jr., Ridgeland, Miss., Malcolm Heard, Lincoln, Neb., and Alex Heard, Santa Fe, N.M.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband; six brothers, Dixon, John L., Robert W., Mike, Phillip and Richard Pepper; and three sisters, Alice Eleanor Pepper, Elizabeth Hardwick and Linnie Franklin.

Visitation hours are 7 to 9 tonight at the church in Starkville. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 607 Hospital Road, Starkville, MS 39759, or to Garden City Community College School of Nursing, 801 Campus Drive, Garden City, KS 67846.

Starkville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sally J. Wiechman

SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Sally J. Wiechman, 55, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Scott City, with the Revs. John Riebhoff and Robert Nuckolls officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mrs. Wiechman died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

She was born Jan. 31, 1947, at Sturgis, S.D., the daughter of Marvin and Mary Michelson Anderson.

A Scott City resident since February 1968, moving from Farmington, N.M., she was a CNA, a homemaker and sold Tupperware in the area for 15 years. She belonged to Holy Cross Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

On Feb. 25, 1968, she married Marvin H. Wiechman at Whitewood, S.D. He survives. She also is survived by a son, Todd J. Wiechman, a daughter, Tracy L. Schmutzler, and two stepsons, Steven R. and Stanley W. Wiechman, all of Topeka; a stepdaughter, Peggy J. Janssen, Manhattan; a brother, Jim Anderson, Gillette, Wyo.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.
