George Allen Patrick

George Allen Patrick, 82, of Garden City, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Aug. 22, 1920, at Ashland, the son of Ralph E. and Goldie Ditson Patrick. He graduated from high school at Hydro, Okla., in 1940, and then served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in World War II and the Korean conflict.

A longtime resident of Dodge City, where he worked at Montgomery Ward Department Store and later as a longtime postal clerk for the Dodge City Post Office, he moved to Rockway Beach, Mo., after his retirement in 1983. In 1987, he moved to Forsyth, Mo., where he lived until moving to Garden City in 2001.

Mr. Patrick was a member of First Baptist Church of Forsyth and the American Legion of Dodge City. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and his RV.

On May 3, 1944, he married Velda Arlene Howell at Oakland, Calif. She died April 10, 1985. On Aug. 22, 1987, he married Pearl A. Wofford at Forsyth. She died May 1, 2001. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Patrick; and three sisters, Hazel Koehn, Wilma Avritt and Margaret Adams.

He is survived by two sons, Ronald Patrick, Garden City, and Michael Patrick, Newport News, Va.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Chaplain Doug Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, with graveside rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Evergreen Gardens, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Art R. Dunsworth

SPEARVILLE - Art R. Dunsworth, 55, Spearville, died Thursday Oct. 31, 2002 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born Oct. 30, 1947 in Garden City, the son of James W. and Celia M. (Bowker) Dunsworth Sr.

He grew up with his family in the Holcomb and Deerfield area, graduating from Holcomb High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969 and returned to Holcomb before moving to California.

In 1971, he moved back to Holcomb, and then in 1976 moved to Leoti. He's lived in Spearville since 1982.

Mr. Dunsworth married Sandy Burch in July 1973 in Garden City.

He was a truck driver for Tansport Express and received a one million mile award for driving with no accidents.

In the early 1990s, he began working as a rural mail carrier around Spearville. He enjoyed traveling, gyrocopters, power parachuting and his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

He was a member of the V.F.W. and Moose Lodge, both in Dodge City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William L. Dunsworth and Lester G. Dunsworth; and a sister, Loretta Faye Delaney.

He is survived by a son, Shannon Dunsworth of Kingman; two daughters, Brigitte Brown, Coalinga, Calif., and Brandi Gehlen, Anthony; one brother, Jim Dunsworth Jr. of Hutchinson; one sister, Esther French, Garden City; two granchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral Monday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter presiding. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Kingman.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City.

Louise A. Lang

Altar Society rosary for Louise A. Lang, 79, of Ellinwood, will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Kimple Funeral Home, Ellinwood, followed by vigil service at 7 p.m. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ellinwood, with the Rev. David Flagor officiating. Burial will be in Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood.

Mrs. Lang died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born Dec. 17, 1922, at Huntley, Ill., the daughter of John Erny and Mary Berns.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ellinwood and the Altar Society.

On Aug. 9, 1947, she married Richard R. Lang at Hutchinson. He died Nov. 1, 2000. She also was preceded in death by a son, Michael.

Survivors include two sons, Donald V. Lang, Ellinwood, and Robert E. Lang, Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Barbara Chulufas, Harrisonville, Mo., and Laura Fickel, Garden City; a brother, James Erny, Allen Park, Mich.; a sister, Rosmond Dick of Milton; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's School Endowment or Ellinwood Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, both in care of the funeral home, 113 N. Main, Ellinwood, KS 67526.

Muriel Revé Wallace

Muriel Revé Wallace, 83, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.

She was born Aug. 3, 1919, at Thayer, the daughter of Charley F. and Sibyl Jones Gildart.

A Garden City resident since 1994, moving from Shallow Water, she taught elementary education in Shallow Water for 22 years before retiring in 1984. That same year, she received the Master Teachers Award from the Scott County Teachers Association.

Mrs. Wallace was a member of Bible Christian Church of Garden City, a former member of Gospel Fellowship Church of Shallow Water, a charter member of the Painting Daisy Bells of Syracuse, and belonged to the China Painters Teachers Association, Pyramid China Painters of Scott City, the National Education Association and the Kansas Teachers Association. She was a 4-H leader, a Sunday School teacher, a china painting instructor, a member of the Mothers of Preschoolers and enjoyed quilting.

On June 2, 1946, she married Harry F. Wallace at Chanute. He died Jan. 8, 1999. She also was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law.

Survivors include two sons, Charles F. Wallace and James F. Wallace, and two daughters, Avis A. Wallace and Anita R. Wallace, all of Garden City; five brothers, Paul, Ralph, Dale and Neil Gildart, all of Thayer, and Roy Gildart, Neodesha; six sisters, Doris Engstrom, North Hills, Calif., Erma Gough, Erie, Lena Mae Pippin, Oklahoma City, Frances Wedan, Nampa, Idaho, Nelda Beaman, Copan, Okla., and Norma Stell, Bethany, Okla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gospel Fellowship Church in Shallow Water, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.

Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Terrace Garden Care Center or KHYM Christian Radio, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.

Jennie Ellen Beard

SYRACUSE - Jennie Ellen Beard, 61, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at her home near Gladstone, N.M.

Born in Hamilton County on July 6, 1941, she was the daughter of Charles Sr. and Thelma Herren Stimatze.

On Sept. 6, 1959, she married Barrett O. Beard at Syracuse. They lived in Syracuse until moving to Gladstone in February 2001. She was co-owner of the Big A Auto Part Store in Syracuse for 17 years and was a member of First Christian Church in Syracuse. She and her husband loved to travel on their motorcycle, traveling over most of the western United States.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Reid, three sons, Brian, Brad and Brett Beard, and a sister, Patricia Tope, all of Syracuse; two brothers, Roy Stimatze, Pratt, and Charles Stimatze Jr., Syracuse; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. MST Thursday at First Christian Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Mike Lewis officiating. Graveside committal service will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.

Visitation hours are until 5 p.m. MST tonight at Hass Funeral Home in Clayton, N.M., 4 to 8 p.m. MST Wednesday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home in Syracuse, and 11 a.m. MST until service time Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, in care of Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.

Willie Ross

SYRACUSE - Willie Ross, 67, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Hamilton County Extended Care Facility in Syracuse.

He was born Aug. 26, 1935, at Checotah, Okla., the son of Ellis Bud and Delilah Brown Ross.

Mr. Ross had worked in iron and steel construction until his retirement. He enjoyed walking, horses and collecting Indian statues.

He is survived by a daughter, Clyde Simpson, and a sister, Anna Parker, both of Muskogee, Okla.; two sisters-in-law; and a niece. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Ross; his parents; five brothers, Larry Paul, Jambo, Ellis, Jonny and Robert Ross; and a sister, Jerrie Nelson.

There will be no visitation. A memorial graveside service is being planned.

Memorials are suggested to the Hamilton County Extended Care Facility, in care of Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.

Abram 'Abe' Buck

SYRACUSE - Funeral for Abram Carl "Abe" Buck, 91, will be 10 a.m. MST Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel officiating. Graveside committal service will follow at Syracuse Cemetery.

Mr. Buck died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at his home in rural Syracuse.

He was born Aug. 17, 1911, at the family home in Redfield in Bourbon County, the son of Albert Curtis and Elizabeth Johnson Buck. He attended Redfield School No. 782, went to eighth grade at Madison School No. 72 and attended school in Fort Scott during his freshman and sophomore years.

A Syracuse resident since 1930, it was then he began farming wheat and milo and also raised white-faced Hereford cattle. He and his wife, Elsie Emma Hamlin Buck, whom he married May 6, 1935, at Syracuse, were the first 4-H leaders in Hamilton County. In August 1961, Pete and Jean Bezona moved next door to the Buck's farm and became a part of the Buck family.

Mr. Buck was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Syracuse, past president of the Farm Bureau Board, a charter member of the Syracuse Co-op and the board of directors for Wheatland Electric, served on the Hamilton County Commission in the 1950s, was a 32nd degree Mason with Syracuse Lodge No. 309 and Wichita Scottish Rite, and belonged to the Cattlemen's Association and Wheat Growers Association. He enjoyed bowling, square dancing, fishing, riding his horse to move cattle, coyote hunting, driving his golf cart, playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, visiting with family and friends, and going to town to have coffee. He and his wife enjoyed spending time at their winter home in Zapata, Texas, and at their summer home near Taylor Lake in Colorado.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Leona Finkenbinder, Fort Morgan, Colo.; his children, Jean and Pete Bezona, Syracuse; four grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Kenneth, Daniel, El Roy and Lloyd Buck; and a great-granddaughter.

Visitation hours are until 7 MST tonight at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.
