Joyce Dean Burch

LAKIN - Joyce Dean Burch, 73, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at her residence in Lakin.

She was born March 10, 1929, in Cook County, Texas, the daughter of Johnnie B. and Lettie Fae (Autry) Potts.

She grew up in Prairie Grove, Texas, and moved to Gainesville, Texas, after completing the fourth grade. She remained in Gainesville until a 1948 move to Raton, N.M.

She worked for the local Safeway Grocery Store in Raton and married Raymond G. Burch Feb. 10, 1950, in Raton. They moved to Lakin in March 1950 and have lived there since.

As a homemaker in Lakin, she enjoyed handiwork and collecting dolls. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lakin, where she also taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, as well as singing in a church quartet.

She was also a member of the American Baptist Women's Ministries, Sunflower Champs R.V. Club, the Lakin Gardening Club and spent several years as a den mother for the Boy Scouts of America.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Deborah Foster, Garden City; an adopted stepdaughter, Ellen Carpenter, Bassett, Neb.; a brother, Olen Dale Potts, Albuquerque, N.M.; two grandchildren and two adopted stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Royce Gene Burch; a daughter, Janice Darlene Burch; and an adopted daughter, Betty June Landis.

Friends may visit 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral home in Lakin.

Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Carley Hazelton presiding. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 508 N. Main St., Lakin, KS 67860.

Marie M. Zelenka

GREAT BEND - Marie M. Zelenka, 81, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Central Kansas Medical Center's St. Rose Campus in Great Bend.

She was born Aug. 16, 1921, in Beaver, the daughter of John and Katharine Meyeres Kultgen.

She was a resident of Great Bend for 66 years after moving from Beaver and married John Zelenka, Jr., Jan. 24, 1946, in Great Bend.

She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altar Society, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 3111, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Cheyenne Bottoms Sportsman Club, Social Circle Card Club, all of Great Bend; and the AARP.

She is survived by a son, Mark Zelenka, Salina; three daughters, Sue Tolan Trout, Minneapolis, Janet Zeller, Wichita, and Nancy Harman, Garden City; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, John Kultgen.

Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. The Altar Society Rosary will be at 3 p.m. The Vigil service will be at 7 p.m., followed by the VFW Auxiliary No. 3111 ritual.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with the Rev. Angel Dy presiding.

She will be interred at Palacky Cemetery in Ellsworth County.

Memorials may be given to the Auxiliary Cancer Aid & Research Program of VFW No. 3111.

Ruby Ethel Renick

Ruby Ethel Renick, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

She was born April 15, 1911, in Liberal, the daughter of Charles H. and Lydia B. Gentzler Koppisch.

She moved to Ingalls in 1919 and was a resident the remainder of her life. During that time, she was a homemaker, teacher and Gray County School Superintendent.

On Oct. 29, 1947, she married William Robert "Bob" Renick in Gove.

She was also a member and Sunday school teacher at the Pierceville Federated Church, a member of the Dorcas Society, the first community leader of Charleston Astronauts' 4-H Club and a member of the Logan Home Builders EHU.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Gerald Renick, Ingalls; a daughter, Ila J. Reynolds, Ingalls; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Irvin Koppisch, and four sisters, Naomi Meline, Myrtle Koppisch, Lydia Graham and Opal Reagan.

Friends may call 3 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pierceville Federated Church, with the Rev. Charles Wagner officiating.

She will be interred at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Memorials may be given to Pierceville Federated Church, Garden Valley, or hospice care, all in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St., Garden City, KS 67846.

Bonnie Faye Moore

ELKHART - Bonnie Faye Moore, 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.

She was born June 16, 1931 in Flippin. Ark., the daughter of Mark C. and Hanner K. (Ostermann) Waggoner.

She spent her early years in Flippin. When she married Earl L. Moore April 17, 1949, at Mountain Home, Ark., the couple moved to McPherson. They later moved to Liberal and a final time in 1956 to Elkhart, where they remained ever since.

Her interests included caring for her lawn and shopping with family and friends. She is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was also a member of Elkhart Bible Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Joann Quigley and Wanda Ray, both of Elkhart; a son, Kenneth Moore, Guymon, Okla.; a sister, Effie Nowlin, Yellville, Ark.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Elkhart Bible Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Alsheimer officiating. Burial will be at Elkhart Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Elkhart Bible Baptist Church or the Ronald McDonald Houses in Wichita, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 514 Kansas Ave., P.O. Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.

Katherine Middleton DeMint Liedtke

HOLCOMB - Katherine Middleton DeMint Liedtke, 62, Holcomb, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Thedford, Neb.

Her husband, Max Liedtke, 58, also died in the same accident.

She was born Oct. 24, 1940, in Wellington, the daughter of Clarence and RosaLee (Zimmerman) Middleton. She attended school in Oxford and graduated with the high school class of 1958. She graduated in 1963 with her degree from Kansas State University.

She married Wayne DeMint Oct. 2, 1966, in the Oxford United Methodist Church, and he preceded her in death June 7, 1997. She married Max Liedtke Nov. 11, 2000, also in Oxford United Methodist Church.

Though she retired as director of Head Start in Wellington, she worked for Child Support Enforcement in Wichita prior to that.

She is survived by two sons, Todd DeMint, Oxford, and Tyson DeMint, Overland Park; a stepson, Marshall Liedtke, Oklahoma City; a stepdaughter, Chantell Freeman, Costa Mesa, Calif.; her parents; two brothers, Alvin Middleton, Udall, and William (Bill) Middleton, Oxford, two sisters, Nancy Moomaw, Mustang, Okla., and Margaret Sanchez, Boerne, Texas; four grandchildren; and one stepgrandson.

Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Oxford Funeral Service. The casket will remain closed.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Oxford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Handle officiating. Interment will be in Oxford Cemetery, with the Rev. Danny Ginn officiating.

A memorial has been established with World Vision and may be given in care of Oxford Funeral Service, 123 N. Sumner St., P.O. Box 123, Oxford KS 67119.

Mary Esther Munk

Mary Esther Munk, 82, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Logan County Hospital in Oakley.

She was born June 20, 1920, in Ellis County, the daughter of Raymond Schmidt and Dorothy Leikem Schmidt. She married Joseph Munk on June 13, 1938, at St. Boniface Church in Vincent and was an Oakley resident for 58 years.

She was also a member of St. Joseph's Church, Oakley, and St. Joseph's Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Billie Ostmeyer; a son, Keith Munk; two sisters, Martina Maska and Annabelle Leitz; and six brothers, Alfred Schmidt, Elmer Schmidt, Clarence Schmidt, Benny Schmidt, Marcellus Schmidt and Danny Schmidt.

She is survived by five sons, Richard Munk, Newport, Neb., Frank Munk, Oakley, Garrie Munk, Syracuse, Jodie Munk, Oakley, and Craig Munk, Winona; four daughters, Naydene Spresser, Hoxie, Eloise Reed Tholen, Oakley, Marietta Dreiling, Holdrege, Neb., and Barbara Voth, Oakley; a brother, Willard Schmidt, Norman, Okla.; and two sisters, Frances Parker, Hays, and Lillian Bennett, Augusta, Ga.

Friends may visit 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley. The wake will be 7 p.m. today, also at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Roger Meitl presiding. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Oakley.

Memorials may be sent to St. Joseph's School, Logan County Hospital or Logan County Manor in care of Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, 217 Freeman, P.O. Box 221, Oakley, KS 67748.
