Doris S. Miller

Doris S. Miller, 91, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.

She was born July 27, 1911, in Alva, Okla., the daughter of Charles Harvey and Rose Harvey.

She was a resident of Scott City since her 1973 move from Edmond, Okla., and owned and operated The Fashion Shoppe clothing store in Scott City before her retirement.

March 1, 1928, she married Thomas Miller, Sr., in Denver. She was also a member of Christian Church, Minneola.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas W. Miller, Scott City, and Jim R. Miller, Monument, Colo.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters.

Friends may visit from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Scott County Cemetery, Scott City, with the Rev. Jeff Arnold officiating. Burial will be at Scott County Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Park Lane Nursing Home in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 401 Washington St., Scott City, KS 67871.

Iva Lee Jackson

Funeral services for Iva Lee Jackson, 68, Topeka, were 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. John AME Church, Topeka.

Jackson died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at a Topeka hospital.

She was born Nov. 28, 1933, in Garden City, the daughter of James Arnold and Wilma Ruth (Fantroy) Arnold. She attended school in Garden City and moved to Topeka in 1952. She married August W. Jackson Jr. on Dec. 31, 1953, in Topeka.

She was a nursing technician for 35 years at Stormont-Vail Regional HealthCare Center before her retirement, as well as an avid bowler in the 2 1/2 Dozen League and a member of the St. John AME Church, where she served as a stewardess.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, August W. Jackson III, Topeka, Randall Alan Jackson, Hollywood, Fla., and Gregory Dean Jackson, Overland Park; a daughter, Melieka Anakwe, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Larry Dean Arnold, Aurora, Colo.,; and eight grandchildren.

She was buried at Westlawn Memorial Gardens.

Albert John Lorkovic

Albert John Lorkovic, 51, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Lee's Summit Hospital, Lee's Summit, Mo.

He was born Feb. 18, 1951 in Omaha, Neb., the son of Albert Lorkovic and Jeanette A. Lorkovic.

Lorkovic was employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as a claims supervisor.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa S. Lorkovic; three children, L. Katherine Lorkovic, J. Robyn Lorkovic and A. Jackson Lorkovic, all of the home; his father, Garden City; a brother, Donald J. Lorkovic, Garden City; three sisters, Donna M. Marley, Garden City, Diane L. Beymer, Lakin, and Laura J. Howie, Lee's Summit.

He was preceded in death by his mother

Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of The Presentation Catholic Church, Lee's Summit. Friends may call after the service.

Memorials may be sent to the Lorkovic Children Educational Fund or Our Lady of The Presentation Catholic Church in care of Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW Third St., Lee's Summit, MO 64063.

Magdalen B. Grasser

CIMARRON - Magdalen B. Grasser, 78, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at her residence south of Cimarron.

She was born March 27, 1924, in Kinsley, the daughter of Herman Theodore and Josephine Merten Schinstock.

She was a Gray County resident since 1947 after moving from Spearville. She was a homemaker and cook at Cimarron High School from 1975 until her 1992 retirement.

May 29, 1945, she married Thomas "Joe" Grasser in Kinsley.

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Ingalls, and Worthwhile FCE.

She is survived by two sons, David Grasser and Charlie Grasser, both of Cimarron; four daughters, Janet Lacy, Dumas, Texas, Donna Housman, Hanston, Becky Grasser, Cimarron, and Cindy Schmidt, Spearville; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Allen Grasser; a sister, Susie Schinstock; infant twin brothers, Herman T. Schinstock and Nicholas T. Schinstock; a grandson, Jimmy Lacy; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Grasser.

Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. today at Burkhart-Ziegler's Gray County Funeral Chapel, Cimarron.

Vigil service will be 7 tonight at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Ingalls. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph E. Bahr presiding. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Richard Anthony Mesa

Richard Anthony Mesa, 60, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at his residence in Garden City.

He was born May 9, 1942, the son of Tony Guillen and Josephine (Olivarez) Mesa.

He later attended MDTA cooking school in Wichita and worked as a cook at LaMesa Grill and Wheat Lands Restaurant, both in Garden City. In 1972, he moved to Oxnard, Calif., to work as a cook, but returned to Garden City in 1996. He then worked as a cook at The Red Baron Restaurant & Lounge until his 2002 retirement.

On Sept. 12, 1964, he married Doris V. Brasher in Garden City and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City.

He is survived by a son, Eric Mesa, Delta, Colo.; two daughters, Lynn Trevino and Kimberly Pennington, both of Dodge City; two brothers, Reynaldo Mesa and Anthony Mesa, both of Garden City; four sisters, Mary Magdolin (Maggie) Silva, Gloria Jean Mesa, Yolanda Clymer and Lucinda (Cindy) Kottas, all of Garden City; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Tonetta Bassham.

Vigil Service and Rosary will be 7 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, also at Garnand Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raul Silva officiating.

Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Memorials may be given to Richard Anthony Mesa Memorial Fund, in care of Garnand Funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846.

Wayne C. Roberts

SCOTT CITY - Wayne C. Roberts, 76, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Feb. 13, 1926 in Scott County, the son of Clem J. Roberts and Nellie J. Zimmerman Roberts. He was a farmer and lifetime resident of the county. He also served during World War II as a tank driver in the U.S. Army's Company A of the 701st Tank Battalion. In addition, he was a member Odd Fellows Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Scott City.

On April 5, 1947, he married Katherine Lane in Liberal.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Gary Roberts, Dodge City, Jay Roberts, Scott City, and Major Roberts, Denver; a daughter, Tana Philliips, Ensign; a sister, Olive Hopkins, Towner, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Faye McDaniel and Thelma Fairchild.

Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Don Williams officiating. Interment will be at Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Memorials may be given to the Wayne Roberts Memorial Fund, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 401 Washington St., Scott City, KS 67871.

Henry E. Hall

Henry E. Hall, 95, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born July 2, 1907 at Partridge, the son of Freeman J. and Bertham Ozbun Hall.

He graduated from Partridge Rural High School and McPherson College, in McPherson. He did graduate work at Emporia State Teachers College and his extension work at Kansas State College, in Manhattan.

He served with the United States Coast Guard during World War II.

He has been a resident of Garden City since 1942, moving from Abilene. He was the owner of the Henry Hall Agency in Garden City, where he worked with residential loans, investments, savings and general insurance.

He was a member, elder and a trustee with the Presbyterian Church in Garden City. He also worked on the memorials and new building committees.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Elks. He belonged to the Finney County Senior Center, the Finney County Library Board, Pi Kappa Delta National Honor Society, The Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce, The Finney County Historical Society, was past president of the Lions Club and he served on the Santa Fe Trail Boy Scout Council. He was an avid golfer, bowler and bridge player.

On May 21, 1932, he married Nellie D. Krebs. She preceded him in death, as did one brother, Harold Hall.

He is survived by two brothers, Arthur Hall, Hutchinson, and Fred Hall, Modesto, Calif.; three sisters, Marjorie Bateman and Helen Culver, both of Hutchinson, and Grace Reichert, Salina.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the Presbyterian Church, Garden City. The Rev. Dave Sweley will officiate.

Friends may call 3 to 8 p.m. today and noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian Church or to the donor's choice, both in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home.
