Eldon E. 'Bud' Cook

Funeral for Eldon E. "Bud" Cook, 78, of Garden City, will be 2 p.m. MST Saturday at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel, Holly, Colo., with the Rev. Donald Carter officiating. Burial will be in Holly Cemetery.

Mr. Cook, a former longtime resident of the Holly area, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at his home in Garden City.

He was born May 12, 1924, in Ford County, the son of James and Mildred Cook.

He is survived by Dorothy Cook, his wife of 57 years; a son, Rockney Cook, Garden City; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; seven brothers and sisters, Ralph Cook of Ulysses, Eunice Ayearst and Alice Crowe of Winfield, Ruth Cress of Olathe, James Cook Jr. of Eads, Colo., Lloyd Cook of Live Oak, Fla., and Gary Cook of Belle Plain; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald Eugene Cook; a daughter, Shelley A. Cook-Shaffer; and five brothers and sisters, Opal Coon, Arthur Cook, Isabelle Grolbert, Kathleen Malone and Vernon Cook.

Visitation hours are until 7 MST tonight and 10 a.m. MST until service time Saturday at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel, Holly. Memorials are suggested to Syracuse Masonic Lodge or Ronald McDonald House, either directly or in care of the funeral chapel, Box 275, Holly, CO 81047.

Kyler Deshawn Loewen

MONTEZUMA - Funeral for Kyler Deshawn Loewen, the infant son of Cornelius Jr. and Laura Helen Harder Loewen of Montezuma, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Valley View Bible Church, Cimarron, with the Rev. Stuart Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery.

Kyler died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the Women's Center in Dodge City.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Shonsee Danae Loewen, Montezuma; his grandparents, Jacob and Helen Harder of Steineach, Manitoba, Canada, and Cornelius Sr. and Mary Loewen of Sublette; and his great-grandparents, Jacob and Sara Harder of Steineach.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Ethel Marie Brown

ELKHART - Funeral for Ethel Marie Brown, 77, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Elkhart, with the Rev. Terrell Giddens officiating. Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.

She was born Aug. 14, 1925, at Herington, the daughter of Everett M. and Winnie Black Brown. She grew up in the Herington and Hope areas until the family moved to Elkhart in 1976. She was a member of Elkhart Bible Baptist Church.

A homemaker, her special interests included watching television, taking care of the house, photographing her family and spending time with all of her family.

She is survived by two brothers, Earl E. Brown of Elkhart, and Theodore A. Brown, Hydro, Okla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Melvin E. Brown and Clifford A. Brown.

There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Morton County Care Center or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home, Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.

Kenneth W. Faurot

SCOTT CITY - Kenneth W. Faurot, 76, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

He was born Oct. 26, 1926, at Lamar, Mo., the son of Alva E. and Freda Pearl Hunt Faurot.

A Scott City resident since 1943, moving from Lamar, he was the owner and operator of Faurot Electric in Scott City from 1958 to 1970 and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Scott City and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

On Aug. 26, 1945, he married Geneva E. Wiechman at Scott City. She died June 18, 1994, at Scott City.

He is survived by three sons, Darrel, Terry and Larry Faurot, all of Scott City; two daughters, Janice O'Brien of Casper, Wyo., and Patsy Lisenby, Scott County; a brother, Lyle Faurot, Dallas; three sisters, Thelma Buck of Ocalla, Fla., Wilda Brinkley of Pocaset, Okla., and Joan Sheet, Lamar; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Scott City. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Elsie S. Weisenberger

SCOTT CITY - Private family graveside service for Elsie Sarah Weisenberger, 87, is planned at a later date in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City, with the Rev. John Warring officiating.

Mrs. Weisenberger died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.

She was born March 30, 1915, at Donnellson, Iowa, the daughter of Minor J. and Elsie Catherine Schrepfer Bennett.

A Scott City resident since 1928, moving from Donnellson, she was a homemaker and belonged to First Christian Church, EHU and the Arts Council, all at Scott City.

On Nov. 26, 1934, she married Earl Joseph Weisenberger at Scott City. He died Nov. 15, 1967. She also was preceded in death by her parents, and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a son, Frank W. Weisenberger, Scott City; a grandson; a granddaughter; a stepgranddaughter; a great-grandson; a great-granddaughter; a stepgreat-grandson; and three stepgreat-granddaughters.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Scott County Emergency Medical Technicians, in care of the funeral home.

Harold Franklin James Sr.

HUGOTON - Harold Franklin James Sr., 87, of Liberal and formerly of Hugoton, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Dec. 29, 1915, at Hugoton, the son of Eila Walton and Rowena Joyce Smith James.

A lifetime resident of southwest Kansas, he had lived in Liberal for 15 years. He was a farmer and had rental properties.

Mr. James was an active member of First Church Of God in Hugoton, served as Sunday School superintendent and drove a Sunday School bus for several years, and served on the Board of Evangelism and Executive Council at the state level. He also belonged to Kiwanis, served as lieutenant governor of Kansas Kiwanis Division 10, was a board member of Southwest Guidance Center at Liberal, a former board member of Kansas Advocacy and Protective Services, served with Southwest Developmental Services Inc., and was second vice president of the Kansas Association of Retarded Citizens. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

On Jan. 6, 1941, he married Fay Elnora Brown in Haskell County. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Harold James Jr., Liberal; two daughters, Drs. Brenda Joyce James and Linda Bernice Myers, both of Columbus, Ohio; an aunt; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Carl James, Eila James Jr., and twin brothers; and three sisters, Mildred Wellington, Juanita Jenkins and Maxine James.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Church Of God, Hugoton, with the Rev. Bill Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Thursday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to Muscular Dystrophy, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Mathias Nicholas Lichter Jr.

LEOTI - Vigil service for Mathias Nicholas Lichter Jr., 97, will be 7 tonight at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Leoti. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marienthal.

Mr. Lichter died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Wichita County Long Term Care Unit in Leoti.

He was born March 13, 1905, in Barton County, the son of Mathias Nicholas Sr. and Frances Jorda Lichter.

A farmer and rancher, he had been a Wichita County resident since 1906. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Grabs of Anthony, a niece and a nephew.

Visitation hours are until 5 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the church or Wichita County Long Term Care Unit, both in care of the funeral home.

Vera Mae Schultz

Vera Mae Schultz, 67, of rural Quenemo, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born Nov. 12, 1935, in rural Quenemo, the daughter of Paul and Hazel Hollar Pruett.

In 1970, she received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Washburn University. She taught at Pomona Grade School until retiring in 1996 after 26 years. A Topeka resident from 1964 until 1970, she had lived most of her life near the Quenemo community. A homemaker, she was a member of USD No. 287 School Board after her retirement, belonged to the Kansas National Education Association, and was a member and held various offices at Zion Lutheran Church in Vassar.

On Feb. 14, 1954, she married Danne Schultz at Vassar. He survives. She also is survived by three sons, Gene Schultz of Claremont, Calif., Greg Schultz of Quenemo, and Gerry Schultz of Garden City; a brother, Jimmie Pruett, Quenemo; a sister, Bessie Sleichter, Carbondale; seven grandsons; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marvel Sutton.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Vassar. Burial will be in Vassar Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 2 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Topeka Lutheran Schools (for school supplies), American Legion Baseball of Ottawa or the American Cancer Society, all in care of the funeral home, Box 160, Lyndon, KS 66451.
