Leona Marie Martin

TRIBUNE - Leona Marie Martin, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Greeley County Long Term Care Unit in Tribune.

She was born Jan. 24, 1913, at Lorton, Neb., the daughter of Henry and Flora Seba Becker.

A Tribune resident since 1928, she was a homemaker and also had owned and operated the Martin Motel from 1948 through 1985. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, formerly in Tribune.

On Oct. 19, 1932, she married William J. Martin at Tribune. He died Jan. 18, 1982, at Leoti. She also was preceded in death by a son, two grandsons, one brother and four sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Lawrence of Tribune, Ronald of Ulysses, and Delbert, Grand Junction, Colo.; a brother, Elmer Becker, Phoenix; a sister, Gladys Ruby, Leoti; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. MST Monday at Assembly of God Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Michael Underwood officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.

Visitation hours are 2 to 8 p.m. today, 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune. Memorials are suggested to Greeley County Long Term Care Unit or Assembly of God Church, both in care of the funeral home.

Elsie Vogel

Rosary service for Elsie Vogel, 85, was Jan. 12 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Colorado Springs, Colo., with a memorial Mass on Jan. 13 at the church. Inurnment took place at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven.

Mrs. Vogel died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003.

She was born Jan. 2, 1918, in Kingman County, the daughter of Lawrence and Philomena Peschka Irsik.

On April 23, 1941, she married Clarence J. Vogel at Ingalls. He died Oct. 5, 1997.

She is survived by two sons, Gerald C. Vogel of Whitney, Texas, and Dennis N. Vogel, Santa Ana, Calif.; three daughters, Jeannie Potts, Beverly K. Miller and Cheryl Ann Howell, all of Colorado Springs; three brothers, Norbert and Clarence Irsik, both of Ingalls, and Larry Irsik, Wichita; four sisters, Helen Gerber and Jude Shriwise, both of Dodge City, Pat Goebel of Jetmore, and Mary Lorraine Gibbons, Topeka; a sister-in-law, Pauline Irsik of Garden City; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Irsik.

Memorials are suggested to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3122 Poinsettia Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80907.

John V. Naab

John V. Naab, 73, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at his home in Garden City.

He was born July 9, 1929, at Kinsley, the son of John and Emma Paul Naab. In the early 1930s, the family moved to Marienthal, where he grew up and attended school.

Mr. Naab enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for six years. In 1951, he moved to Garden City, where he owned and operated Naab Construction. After his retirement, he helped work at Naab Liquor Store with his wife, Rhoda F. (Frank) Naab, whom he married May 31, 1951, at Van Buren, Ark.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, VFW and American Legion, all at Garden City.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Marvin L. Naab of Charleston, John L. Naab of Canon City, Colo., Frankie Naab of Oklahoma, Jerry and J.D. Naab, both of Garden City; two daughters, Vicky McInnis and Sherry Guerrero, both of Garden City; two brothers, Raymond and Kenny Naab, both of Garden City; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David; a daughter, Rhonda; a granddaughter, Melissa; and two brothers, Mike and Walter.

No local services are planned. Cremation has taken place.

Memorials to the John V. Naab Memorial Fund may be sent in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.

Floyd F. 'Bo' Boes

Funeral for Lloyd F. "Bo" Boes, 60, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Pierceville Federated Church, with the Rev. Charles Wagher officiating. Private family burial will take place later.

Mr. Boes died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Feb. 21, 1942, at Emporia. He grew up and attended schools in Olpe, graduating from Olpe High School.

On Sept. 23, 1961, he married Leona Wilson at Olpe. They lived in various places throughout Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa, including several years in Americus. They moved from Harvard, Neb., to Garden City in 1981. He moved to the Pierceville area in 1997.

His wife died Feb. 3, 1994. He also was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elaine Bradshaw.

Mr. Boes was the owner and operator of Bo's Welding and Construction, Garden City. He belonged to the Boilermaker Union No. 83 at Kansas City, Mo., was a sponsor for his grandchildren's baseball team through the Garden City Recreation Commission, and volunteered his time with the Drama Club at Garden City High School. One of his favorite activities was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by a son, Lloyd E. Boes, Garden City; two daughters, Marie Aumiller of Harvard and Cathy E. Ruhl of Americus; a brother, John V. Boes, Washington; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation hours are 3 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Charles M. Anstaett

Charles M. Anstaett, 78, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Feb. 21, 1924, at Batavia, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Joy; a daughter, Britt Starr, Phoenix; a stepdaughter, Camela Knapp of Houston; three brothers, Jack and Orville Anstaett, both of Garden City, and Michael Anstaett, Sterling, Colo.; two sisters, Jeanne Gibbons of Grass Valley, Calif., and Emily Gaines, Cincinnati; a stepgrandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Monday at the Presbyterian Church, Garden City.

Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Virginia Sewell

Ruth Virginia Sewell, 86, of Pratt, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in Syracuse.

She was born Dec. 7, 1916, at Pratt, the daughter of C.H. and Lulu Gould Fisher.

A lifetime resident of Pratt, she had worked as a receptionist for Bales Insurance and First National Bank. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi and BPOE No. 1451 Auxiliary, all at Pratt.

On March 9, 1939, she married Dean E. Sewell at Pratt. He died Aug. 14, 2001. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Fisher.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Howell, Syracuse; a son, Mike Sewell, Pratt; a sister, June Hoffman, Sun City, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt, with the Rev. Kendal Utt officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.

Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Lemon Park Lights, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Hamilton County Extended Care Unit, all in care of the mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt, KS 67124.

Marilyn K. Williams

HUGOTON - Private family graveside service for Marilyn K. Alley Williams, 56, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hugoton Cemetery. Lawrence Johnson, elder, will officiate.

Mrs. Williams died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Chevy Chase Nursing Home in Chicago.

She is survived by four sons, Dwight Alley of Chicago, Deigo Alley of Oklahoma, Vegas Alley of Texas and Anthony Allen of Wichita; two daughters, Nacissa of Oklahoma and Tira of Wichita; her mother, Bernice Alley, Wichita; two sisters, Joyce Alley and Betty Hodnett, both of Wichita; and two brothers, Ronald Alley of Denver and Donald Alley, Wichita. She was preceded in death by her father, James Alley; a sister, Joann Alley; a brother, James Lee Alley; and her husband, Prentice Williams.

Garnand Funeral Home, Hugoton, is in charge of arrangements.

Etheleen V. Smith

ULYSSES - Etheleen V. Smith, 85, a former Ulysses resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Moundridge.

She was born Dec. 10, 1917, at Yanush, Okla., the daughter of Perry A. Loafman and Ethel B. Bradley.

A Moundridge resident for five years, moving from Brookton, Texas, she was a homemaker. She belonged to Gospel Church of God in Christ Mennonite.

On Feb. 26, 1938, she married Lincoln J. Ratzlaff. He died July 23, 1966. On July 27, 1973, she married Henry R. Smith at Montezuma. He died March 3, 1991. She also was preceded in death by a son, Albin J. Ratzlaff; a brother, J.B. Loafman; and a sister, Ollie Cox.

Survivors include a son, Darrell Ratzlaff, Wilcox, Ariz.; a daughter, Deloris Koehn, Brookton; two stepsons, Marvin Smith of Chickasha, Okla., and John Smith, Burns; five stepdaughters, Betty Schmidt of Burns, Viola Koehn of Walker, Mo., Irene Smith of Escondido, Calif., Velma Koehn and Vivian Swarey, both of Almena, Wis.; three brothers, Wayne Loafman of Lindsey, Okla., Perry A. Loafman of Carlsbad, N.M., and James R. Loafman, Midwest City, Okla.; a sister, Wanda Woods, Cushing, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 27 stepgrandchildren; 70 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Gospel Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Moundridge. Alvin Koehn, Dale Koehn and Dale Becker, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Grant Mennonite Church Cemetery in rural Ulysses.

Visitation hours are 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moundridge Funeral Home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Gospel Tract & Bible Society or Moundridge Manor, both in care of the funeral home, Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.
