Alice Virginia Curtin

Funeral for Alice Virginia Curtin, 89, of Sun City West, Ariz., will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Sunland Memorial Park and Mortuary in Sun City, Ariz. Burial will follow in Sunland Memorial Park.

Mrs. Curtin died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, in Sun City West.

She was born April 3, 1913, at Piedmont, the daughter of George W. and Golde Beloat Monical.

A registered nurse, she was a U.S. Army Nurses Corps veteran of World War II.

She is survived by her husband, Fredrick, Sun City West; a son, William "Bill" Curtin, Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Russell Monical, Cimarron, Ralph Monical, Larned, and Don Monical, Bettendorf, Iowa; and two sisters, Marge Kautzky, Des Moines, Iowa, and Barbara Norman, Quincy, Calif.

Memorials may be sent to the Cimarron Library, Cimarron, KS 67835.

Morell Funeral Home, Larned, is in charge of arrangements.

Roy 'Wuzzy' Anderson

Funeral for Roy Luther "Wuzzy" Anderson, 81, of Utica, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Utica, with the Revs. Ben Friesen and Clarence Davis officiating. Burial will be in Utica Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by McKinstry-Jones American Legion Post 380, assisted by the Sons of the American Legion.

Mr. Anderson died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ellis.

He was born May 16, 1921, on the family farm in Lane County, the son of Clarence and Helen Brocher Anderson.

A farmer and stockman, he had resided in the Utica area for most of his life. He was a member of First Christian Church and McKinstry-Jones American Legion Post No. 380, both at Utica, VFW Post No. 7972 at Ransom, Eastern Star at Ness City and the Masons at Dighton, and was a U.S. Navy Sea Bee during World War II.

On May 19, 1947, he married Betty Lea Rowe at Garden City. She died Sept. 4, 1994. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Sherwin; and a granddaughter, Jessica Anderson.

He is survived by a son, Kip A. Anderson, Utica; three daughters, Candice L. Davis, Lindsborg, Sandra L. Refsland, Silt, Colo., and Susan K. Pelzel, Larned; a brother, Harold D. Anderson, Utica; two sisters, Mary E. Erickson, McPherson, and Aleda B. Thomas, Lindsborg; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, and until service time Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to McKinstry-Jones American Legion Post No. 380, in care of the funeral home, Box 96, Ness City, KS 67560.

Irvin L. Wilken

LEOTI - Irvin L. Wilken, 73, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at his home in San Antonio, Texas.

He was born Feb. 24, 1929, at Garden City, the son of William H. and Grace Pollman Wilken.

A San Antonio resident since 1994, moving from Leoti, he had been general manager and salesman for Jaeger Implement before retiring in 1992. He served as mayor for the city of Leoti from 1965 through 1979, and was instrumental in the design and development of the Leoti Country Club.

Mr. Wilken was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Lions Club, both at Leoti, and belonged to Anthem Masonic Lodge at Scott City, Isis Shrine at Salina, and Elks Lodge No. 1404 and Eagles Lodge, both at Garden City.

On Jan. 15, 1949, he married Josephine Schwaiger at Perryton, Texas. On Oct. 30, 1979, he married Cheryl Barr Wing at Las Vegas. She survives. He also is survived by three daughters, Janis Buchan and Tauni Day, both of San Antonio, and Patsy Fort, Garden City; a son, Shane Wing, Salem, Ore.; two brothers, Henry, Austin, Texas, and George, Mountain Home, Ark.; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and two sisters-in-laws. He was preceded in death by five brothers.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Rick Just officiating. Inurnment will be in Leoti Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the Wichita County Amusement Association or Leoti Emergency Medical Technicians, both in care of the funeral home.

Alice L. Demuth

HUGOTON - Alice L. Demuth, 86, of Hugoton, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born Oct. 10, 1916, in rural Stevens County, the daughter of Frank and Jessie Sillin Anderson. She attended schools in Hugoton. After graduating from high school, she attended Northwestern State University, Alva, Okla., where she earned her teaching certificate in elementary education. She then began teaching at a rural grade school in Stevens County. She continued to teach school in southwest Kansas until 1962.

On Nov. 16, 1935, she married Francis A. Demuth at Coldwater. They began farming in Stevens County in 1949. In 1952, they moved to Texas County, Okla., near Hough, Okla., and later returned to Hugoton. He died May 1, 1991. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Woodrow Anderson.

A longtime resident of Hugoton, Mrs. Demuth belonged to Hugoton United Methodist Church. Her special interests included crocheting socks for Hugoton High School seniors as a graduation gift, a task she did for about seven years. She also enjoyed reading.

She is survived by a son, H. Jan Demuth, Midland, Va.; a daughter, Anna Cousins, Westfield, Ind.; five sisters, Lillian Reynolds, Phoenix, Mary Madden, Pueblo, Colo., Dorothy Thompson and Nora Swafford, both of Hugoton, and Betty Brown, Hot Springs, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law.

Funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at Hugoton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donald J. Koehn officiating. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Riverview Cemetery in Kiowa.

Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to Pioneer Manor Retirement Home of Hugoton, in care of the funeral home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Radean M. Griffin

Radean M. Griffin, 50, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Nov. 15, 1952, at Colby, the son of Dewey and Lola Mae Parsons Griffin.

A Garden City resident since the early 1970s, moving from Colby, he was an auto service technician for Schreiber Service in Garden City and was of the Christian faith.

On July 10, 1976, he married Karen L. Thiel at Garden City. She survives. He also is survived by his parents, Colby; four brothers, Raymond Griffin, Douglasville, Ga., and Ragene, Glenn and Tracey Griffin, all of Colby; three sisters, Debbie Kelly, Covington, Ga., Joy Griffin, Colby, and Billie Griffin, Queen Creek, Ariz.; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Garden Valley Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Tim Davis officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.

Ruth Foos Parker

HUGOTON - Funeral for Ruth Foos Parker, 88, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hugoton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donald J. Koehn officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Mrs. Parker died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

She was born July 13, 1914, at Bazine, the daughter of Philip and Scharlotte Fresorger Foos. She grew up in Bazine and attended schools there. At 16, she left home and moved to Garden City where she resided until marrying Austin Leonard Parker at Leoti in 1939. They then moved to Hugoton.

Mrs. Parker was a cook for Hugoton Elementary School for about 30 years. A homemaker, her special interests included bowling, cooking and, most of all, spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Hugoton United Methodist Church and Hugoton United Methodist Women.

Her husband died Jan. 15, 1973. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronny Parker; six brothers, H.P., Philip, George, John, Herman and Manuel Foos; and two sisters, Lottie Giskie and Katie Schneider.

She is survived by a son, Phil Parker, Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Irene Dickens, Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to Hugoton United Methodist church, in care of the funeral home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Earl W. Bockelman

LAKIN - Funeral for Earl W. Bockelman, 79, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton, with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Bockelman died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

He was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Lane County, the son of August Henry and Dorothea Ehmke Bockelman. He grew up and attended schools in Lane County and worked on the family farm in Lane and Gove counties.

A Lakin resident for 30 years, Mr. Bockelman was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Scott City. His special interests were his yard work and gardening.

He is survived by a brother, Theodore Bockelman, Dighton; a sister, Louise Bockelman, Scott City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Viola Hopka; and three brothers, Walter, Edward and Marion Bockelman.

Visitation hours are 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Pioneer Home or Holy Cross Lutheran Church, both in care of the funeral home.

Cody Mackenzie Wilson

Cody Mackenzie Wilson, 18, a former Garden City resident, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Oakley.

He was born March 6, 1984, at Garden City, the son of Wilburn "Rex" and Janet L. Wyatt Wilson. A resident of Oakley for six years, moving from Garden City, he was a senior at Oakley High School where he also participated in sports.

He is survived by his father, Oakley; his mother, Garden City; three brothers, Dusty D. Wilson, Olympia, Wash., Lee M.M. George, Aurora, Colo., and Linn B.T. George, Garden City; a sister, Amanda D.L. Scully, Junction City; and his grandparents, Sonny and Joanne Wilson, Oakley, Eugene and Delorse Prater, Garden City, and Frank and Emma Wyatt, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Oakley, with the Revs. Glenn and Barbara Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Oakley Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley, and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Oakley. Memorials to the Cody Wilson Memorial Fund may be sent in care of Farmers State Bank, Oakley.
