Venancio Ramirez

ULYSSES - Vigil service for Venancio Ramirez, 47, of Ulysses, will be 7 tonight at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ulysses. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Louis Hoang officiating. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.

Mr. Ramirez died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born May 18, 1955, in Dr. Arroyo N.L., Mexico, the son of Santos and Maria Teresa (Ramirez) Ramirez.

A Ulysses resident since 1987, he worked for Tarbet Construction and was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, both at Ulysses.

He married Ciria Landeros on Feb. 8, 1977, in Dr. Arroyo N.L., Mexico. She survives. He also is survived by his parents, Ulysses; two sons, Venancio Ramirez Jr. and Carlos Ramirez, and a daughter, Maria Ramirez, all of Ulysses; seven brothers, Juan Pablo of Arizona, and Seferino, Reynario, Jose Angle, Andres, Jaime and Juan Ramirez Jr., all of Ulysses; four sisters, Consolacion Garcia, Ermila Sanchez and Hortencia Ramirez, all of Ulysses, and Virginia Martinez, California; and two grandchildren.

Visitation hours are 5 p.m. today until service time Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Venancio Ramirez Memorial Fund, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

Mamie I. Buchholz

INGALLS - Graveside service for Mamie I. Buchholz, 86, of Ingalls, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, with the Rev. Mike Whalen officiating.

Mrs. Buchholz died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.

She was born June 24, 1916, in Stafford County, the daughter of Learoy Potter and Jesse Cooper. She grew up in Stafford County, graduating from St. John High School. She had worked as a weight station attendant for the State of Kansas.

On April 6, 1941, she married John Buchholz at Benton, Mo. They moved to Ingalls in 1972. He died Aug. 13, 1996. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma "Jeanne" Dunkel; a brother, Howard "Bud" Potter; and a sister, Mildred "Sis" Walker.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Rodriquez and Dee Yakel, both of Ingalls; two sisters, Evelyn Ankerholtz of Sylvia and Virginia Toland of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Fairview Park Cemetery in St. John, in care of Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City.

Earnest 'Bud' Lawson

KENDALL - Funeral for Earnest Gene "Bud" Lawson, 63, will be 10 a.m. CST Saturday at First Baptist Church, Satanta. Graveside committal service will follow at Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta.

Mr. Lawson died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at his home in Kendall.

He was born March 27, 1939, at Sand Springs, Okla., the son of Osby Columbus and Edith Kathleen Carter Lawson. He attended school in Satanta.

On April 8, 1960, he married Constance Margueritte "Connie" Lozar at Ulysses. They lived in Satanta until moving to Dayton, Texas, in 1967. They returned to Satanta in 1994. His wife died Feb. 25, 1996. He also was preceded in death by his parents.

A Kendall resident since 1997, Mr. Lawson worked as a truck driver and was part owner of Highway Express of Lakin. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending singles dances in southwest Kansas.

He is survived by a son, David Leon Lawson, Dodge City; two daughters, Shelley Jo Brown, Lakin, and Shari Jean Hudnall, Hardin, Texas; two brothers, Timmy Lawson, Yantis, Texas, and Ronnie Lawson, Winsboro, Texas; two sisters, Linda Oliver of Dayton and Sharon Mitchell of Sulphur Springs, Texas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 MST tonight at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse, and 9 a.m. CST until service time Saturday at the church in Satanta. Memorials to the Earnest Lawson Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.

Anna Rose Jantz

MONTEZUMA - Funeral for Anna Rose Jantz, 77, of Montezuma, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Montezuma, with the Rev. Gene Eshleman officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Montezuma.

Mrs. Jantz died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.

She was born Jan. 9, 1925, at Montezuma, the daughter of Morton W. and Hattie Irene Obee Miller.

A lifetime resident of Montezuma, she served as the town's city clerk for several years, was secretary at Montezuma Grade School and owned a variety store for about five years in Montezuma. She belonged to the United Methodist Church of Montezuma.

Mrs. Jantz enjoyed her family activities, including camping at Cedar Bluff, was involved in her children's activities and served as an MYF sponsor when her children were young. She also enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, knitting and crocheting. A seamstress, she made most of her children's clothes when they were young.

On Jan. 15, 1950, she married Ervin W. Jantz at Deerfield.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Steve Jantz, Ferguson, Mo.; two daughters, Eileen Strickland, Hugoton, and Susan Russell, Weslaco, Texas; two brothers, John W. Miller of Delphos and Hugh Miller, Clarksville, Tenn.; a sister, Juanita Oliver, Painesville, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ross Miller; and two sisters, Bertha Stevens and Ida Belle Miller.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Montezuma Funeral Home. The casket will be open at the funeral home and closed at the church. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Joyce E. Dwyre

INGALLS - Funeral for Joyce E. Dwyre, 62, of Ingalls, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Cimarron, with the Rev. Richard Deimund officiating. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Mrs. Dwyre died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City.

She was born July 21, 1940, at Maysville, Mo., the daughter of Chester and Ethel Weatherman Clements.

An Ingalls resident since 1964, moving from Missouri, she was the bookkeeper for Dwyre Grinding of Ingalls. A homemaker, she enjoyed crochet, traveling, camping, fishing, attending her grandchildren's events, being sociable and caring for houseplants.

On Oct. 5, 1957, she married James R. "Jim" Dwyre at Maryville, Mo. He survives. She also is survived by three sons, Dan, Dennis and Ron, all of Ingalls; two sisters, Delores Allen, St. Joseph, Mo., and Jean Myers, Kansas City North, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Douglas Dwyre; a brother, Ronald E. Clements; and a sister, Charlotte Myers.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Burkhart-Ziegler's Gray County Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Memorials to the Joyce E. Dwyre Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the chapel, Box 786, Cimarron, KS 67835.

Rosie E. Nemechek

TRIBUNE - Vigil service for Rosie E. Nemechek, 79, will be 7 MDT tonight at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tribune. Funeral will be 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.

Mrs. Nemechek died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.

She was born Feb. 19, 1923, at Stockholm, the daughter of Carl and Helena Kuhn Dyberg.

A lifetime Greeley County resident, she was a homemaker and belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church and VFW Auxiliary.

On July 11, 1939, she married Joseph B. Nemechek at Syracuse. He died Jan. 25, 2002, at Tribune. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

Survivors include three sons, Frank and Don, both of Tribune, and Larry, Hugoton; a daughter, Rosalie Abney, Tribune; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 5:30 p.m. today at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune. Memorials are suggested to Greeley County Hospital, in care of the funeral home.

Billie Beryl Ginest

Funeral for Billie Beryl Ginest, 84, will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Ginest died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born March 16, 1918, at the family home near Caddo, Colo., the daughter of William Henry and Zula Irene Morgan Alsdorf. The family moved to the Morland area when she was a child.

A Garden City resident since 1936, Mrs. Ginest was a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship and the Loyal Leaders Sunday School class. She was known for her calling ministries in the church, had served as hostess for the High Plains Christian Church ministers gathering on a monthly basis, and served as a lay minister at the church. She enjoyed baking, reading to the shut-ins in Garden City, her church work and spending time with her family.

On Aug. 22, 1936, she married Edward E. Ginest at Lamar, Colo. He died Jan. 26, 1977. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Thelma Alsdorf Hann; seven brothers, Thon, Wayne, Homer, Robert, Calvin, Glen and Carol; and a grandson, Ricky Wayne Ginest.

Survivors include six sons, Dale, Denver, Richard, Kingman, Ariz., Dean, Sinclair, Wyo., Allen, Scottsbluff, Neb., Russell, Hutchinson, and Melvin, Powell, Wyo.; a daughter, Norma Lilly, Phoenix; a stepson, Kenneth Ginest, Garden City; a sister, Mary Murphy, Flowering Branch, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Loyal Leaders Sunday School class at First Christian Church or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Janet Lorene Wilks

Janet Lorene Wilks, 57, of Manhattan, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at University Community Hospital in Tampa, Fla. She and her husband, Delbert, were building their winter home when she suffered a major heart attack that caused her death.

Born March 3, 1945, at Garden City, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Doris Hahn Webb. She grew up in the Garden City area and graduated from Holcomb High School. After attending Liberal School of Hairdressing, she was a hairdresser for several years in Garden City. She had also worked at the Kansas State Student Union in the bakery. She and her husband owned and operated Wilks Properties.

Mrs. Wilks attended University Christian Church in Manhattan, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 2279, and was a former member of Daughters of Isabella. A cancer survivor, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, embroidery and traveling.

In addition to her husband, whom she married on Dec. 18, 1966, at Garden City, she is survived by a daughter, Michelle Sawko, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Anthony Wilks, Gladstone, Mo.; a sister, Janice Stebens, Garden City; two brothers, Lester and Melvin Webb, both of the Garden City area; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Perry; her parents; and two brothers, Raymond and Harold.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, Manhattan, with the Rev. Joe Pallikathyl officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502.
