Anna Arnold

Vigil service for Anna Arnold, 90, of Longmont, Colo., will be 7 tonight at Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Longmont, with the Rev. Mickey Flaska as celebrant. Cremation will follow the services with inurnment to take place in Hays at a later date.

Mrs. Arnold died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Longmont United Hospital.

She was born Feb. 16, 1913, at St. Peter, the daughter of Peter and Amelia Haas Rohleder. She grew up and went to school in Morland. During her years in high school, she served as captain of the girls basketball team.

On Sept. 27, 1932, she married William A. "Bill" Arnold at Victoria. They raised a family in Garden City, where they lived for 50 years. A homemaker, she loved to cook, sew, quilt and knit. She also enjoyed bowling and scheduling time to watch a favorite soap opera. Her greatest joy was her family and spending time supporting them at activities such as playing softball.

In 1987, she and her husband moved to Hays. She has lived in Longmont since 1990.

Mrs. Arnold was brought up in the Catholic faith and was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont. She volunteered for many projects throughout her lifetime, helping with senior group projects and serving on the altar and rosary society at the church.

Survivors include four sons, Bill Arnold of Littleton, Lee Arnold of Houston, Richard Arnold of Jacksonville, Fla., and Albert Arnold of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Delores Paschel of Collinsville, Okla., Rosie Schaa of Mead, Colo., and Kathy Arnold of Brighton, Colo.; a sister, Helen Brown of Victoria; 28 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Felix, John, Nick and Ray Rohleder; and three sisters, Margaret Rohleder, Clara Klaus and Sally Lang.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Boulder County, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Suite A, Lafayette, CO 80026.

Norma Jean White

HUGOTON - Norma Jean White, 69, of Hugoton, died today, Feb. 21, 2003, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

She was born Nov. 26, 1933, at Hugoton, the daughter of Jacob Franklin and Edith Rowan Pontius.

A lifetime Hugoton resident, she was a nurse's aide and enjoyed caring for the elderly. She also had worked as a bookkeeper and as a deputy for the Stevens County Sheriff's Office. She enjoyed taking care of her son, raising a garden and canning her produce, and was an avid cat lover.

In 1959, she married Sherman Leon Gray. He preceded her in death. She married Joseph Lange in 1969. He died in 1978. In 1982, she married Kenneth White. He died in 1987. She also was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by a son, Don Gray of Hugoton; a brother, Joe Pontius of Long Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Edna Denton of Long Beach, and Margaret Roberts of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established for the family, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Matt William Schibbelhut

Matt William Schibbelhut, 40, of Great Bend, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Hammett, Idaho.

He was born Jan. 10, 1963, at Las Animas, Colo., the son of Robert and Jeraldine Murray Schibbelhut.

A Great Bend resident since 1992, moving from Hasty, Colo., he was the owner and operator of JAM Trucking and previously had been employed as a trucker in Garden City.

In July 1992, he married Janet Dunham Meyeres at Great Bend. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Kenny Meyeres of El Dorado, and Patrick Meyeres of Hays; a daughter, Jennifer Schroeder of Great Bend; two stepbrothers, Billy and Jackie Barham, both of Texas; a half brother, Bobby Schibbelhut of Alaska; five sisters, Debbie Schibbelhut, Penny Gonzales, Shiela Schibbelhut and Peggy Shankle, all of Colorado, and Vicky Slansky of Kansas; a half sister, Barbara Weimer of Kansas; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with the Rev. Don Paden officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend.

Visitation hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Matt Schibbelhut Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, KS 67530.

John B. Sena

John B. Sena, 67, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron.

He was born Oct. 6, 1935, at Emphzado, N.M., the son of Graciano Sena and Cipriana Jaramillo.

A Meade resident since 1992, moving from Plains, he was an elevator worker for the Plains Co-op, later working as a grounds keeper for the City of Meade before retiring in 1993.

Mr. Sena was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church at Meade and attended First Baptist Church at Cimarron.

On Oct. 10, 1964, he married Judy G. Warn at Clayton, N.M. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Andrew Sena of Lamar, Colo.; a daughter, Melissa Housewright of Cimarron; four brothers, Gilbert, Gene and Roger Sena, all of Las Vegas, N.M., and Junior Sena of Raton, N.M.; four sisters, Kate Chacon of Las Vegas, N.M., Della Jaramillo and Sara Duran, both of Lamar, and Mary Lou Karr of Hesperia, Calif.; five granddaughters; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters, Angela Sena, Jesus Andrea Sena, Corina Gonzales and Frank Sena.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Cimarron, with the Rev. Richard Deimund officiating. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Gonzales Funeral Home, Las Vegas, N.M. Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Los Alamos Cemetery in Emphzado.

Visitation hours are from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Memorials to the John B. Sena Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 786, Cimarron, KS 67835.

Dr. Herbert 'Bert' Jackson

ELKHART - Funeral for Dr. Herbert Lewis "Bert" Jackson, 81, a former Elkhart resident, was to be 10 this morning at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Richfield Cemetery in Richfield.

Mr. Jackson died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at Williamsburg (Iowa) Care Center.

He was born May 9, 1921, at Sawyer, the son of Roy A. and Grace Stoops Jackson. In 1930, the family moved to a farm west of Richfield in Morton County. In May 1939, he graduated valedictorian from Elkhart High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in physics in 1943 from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia.

In June 1943, he joined the U.S. Army, entering Officers Candidate School and being commissioned second lieutenant. He attended radar school at Harvard and M.I.T., and from January to August 1946, he served in the Philippines.

On Aug. 28, 1946, he married Mary Alice Tritt. He then taught high school math and physics at Stafford. In 1947, the family moved to Madison, Wis., where he began graduate school at the University of Wisconsin. He received a master's degree in 1949 and his doctorate in physics in June 1952. After graduation, the family sailed to Europe where he accepted a position at the university in Basel, Switzerland. In 1954, they moved to Lincoln, Neb., where he served as assistant professor of physics at the University of Nebraska.

In 1960, he moved to Iowa City and began work at the University of Iowa. He started in the radiation research lab, was promoted to associate professor in 1961, and transferred to the Department of Radiology, Division of Radiation Therapy in 1965. In 1970, he was promoted to full professor and, in 1985, he was commended for 25 years of continued service to the Department of Radiology. He authored two textbooks for the department along with numerous articles in professional journals. His field of expertise was Lithium Floride Dosimerty.

He is survived by a daughter, Ruth "Stephanie" Zousel, Wichita; two granddaughters; a great-grandson; and a brother, Larry A. Jackson, D.V.M., Alto, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Leon Jackson; a daughter, Annetta Marie Coyer; and a grandson, Richard Zousel.

Memorials are suggested to the St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church Building Fund or the Annetta Marie Jackson Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the University of Iowa Foundation.

Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be under the direction of Garnand Funeral Home of Elkhart.

Alvin William Willman

SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Alvin William Willman, 76, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Lyle Stuehrenberg officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mr. Willman died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Aug. 2, 1926, at Hubbell, Neb., the son of Fredrick "F.W." and Anna Marie Fangmeier Willman.

A Scott City resident since 1961, moving from Haddam, he worked as a technician at the Soil Conservation Office in Scott City for 29 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

On April 4, 1948, he married Verna L. Luce at Morrowville. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, William Roy Willman of Holcomb, and Robert Lynn Willman of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Nancy Louise Johnson of Bossier City, La.; two sisters, Elsie Helena Shimmer of Beatrice, Neb., and Doris Caroline Pearl of Huron, S.D.; four grandchildren; and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Edna M. Russell

CIMARRON - Funeral for Edna M. Russell, 92, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, Cimarron, with the Rev. Charles Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Mrs. Russell died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.

She was born June 8, 1910, in Baca County, Colo., the daughter of Joe Elliott and Cora Jane Jones.

On Oct. 19, 1929, she married Richard Lee Russell at Johnson City. They lived on a Baca County farm for two years then moved to a farm in Stanton County. In 1936, they moved to Cimarron where they farmed south of town for a time and later were in the restaurant business for several years.

Mrs. Russell was a member of First Christian Church and the Over 50 Club, both at Cimarron.

Her husband died Nov. 9, 1975. She also was preceded in death by three daughters, Eddie Glaze, Phyllis Komoroski and Donna Knoll; and her parents.

She is survived by a sister, Johnnie Hair of Walsh, Colo.; a son-in-law, Carroll Knoll of Garden City; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to The Shepherd's Center of Cimarron, in care of Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City.
