Theresa L. Kuhn

ULYSSES - Vigil service for Theresa L. Kuhn, 79, will be 5 p.m. today at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Kuhn died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

She was born Dec. 2, 1923, at Clyde, the daughter of Ed and Elsie Bachand Provost. She grew up in Clyde and graduated from high school there.

A Garden City resident since 1997, she had previously resided in Ulysses since 1962 and was the head cook at Sullivan Grade School in Ulysses for 26 years. She belonged to Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, and enjoyed being active in her church activities and her family events.

On Oct. 14, 1943, she married Edward Kuhn at Clyde. He died Feb. 9, 1990. She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and six sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Denny Kuhn of Scott City, and Steve Kuhn of Mesa, Ariz.; four daughters, Charlene Spencer of Harper, Jane Yaple of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lorene Cook of Ulysses, and Denise Garrison of Johnson City; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 4 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to High Plains Retirement Village, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Roy Charles Hamill

DEERFIELD - Roy Charles Hamill, 69, of Deerfield, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Guymon, Okla.

He was born July 4, 1933, at Kalvesta, the son of Mabel Thelma Gatten and William Everett Hamill. He grew up in Garden City.

Mr. Hamill had been a truck driver for more than 50 years and had served in the National Guard.

On Aug. 30, 1997, he married Patricia Ann Reedy at Holcomb. She survives. He also is survived by five daughters, Debra Hamill of Guymon, Brenda Amen of Lincoln, Neb., Rhonda Penn of Mansfield, Mo., Marsha Hamill of Liberal, and Kristi Hamill of Deerfield; two sons, Roy Charles "Chuck" Hamill Jr., Garden City, and Mike Hamill of Carthage, Mo.; three sisters, Ann Paulson and Maude Hamill of California, and Cheryl Sullivan of Garden City; five brothers, Rex Hamill of Mountainhome, Ark., Jack and Sonny Hamill of Colorado, and Fritz and David Hamill of Garden City; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Ramona Hamill and Fern Hamill; five brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Neada Wheatley officiating. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from noon to 8 p.m. today and Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Robert G. Coen

Robert G. Coen, 53, of Kinsley, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley.

He was born Oct. 10, 1949, at Trinidad, Colo., the son of Glen and Ann Bostick Coen.

Mr. Coen worked as a truck driver. He belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Kinsley.

On Sept. 23, 1995, he married Bonnie S. Cox at Garden City. She survives. He also is survived by three sons, Robert Coen Jr. of Crawford, Neb., Henry and Timothy Coen, both of Garden City; a stepson, Brian Kniep of Kinsley; three daughters, Elizabeth Davila, Dodge City, Evelyn Atkinson and Bridgette Coen, both of Garden City; two stepdaughters, Denise Combs of Scottsberg, Ind., and Donna Ebertshauser, Lexington, Ind.; a brother, Everett Coen of New Mexico; and 15 grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Kinsley, with the Rev. David Bell officiating. Burial is planned at a later date.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

B. Irene Dickey

HEALY - B. Irene Dickey, 98, died at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City Thursday.

Mrs. Dickey was born Feb. 17, 1905 in Salina to her parents Godfrey and Anna Josephine Ross Lundstrum. On May 30, 1925, she married H. Harold Dickey in Kansas City, Mo. He died in January 1982.

She moved to Healy in 1946 from Hoisington. She was a homemaker, gardener and life-long animal lover. She attended Bible study groups and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and one infant son, Donald L. Dickey.

Survivors include three sons, Harold Dickey of Dallas, Elliott Dickey and Keith Dickey, both of Healy, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She donated her body to the University of Kansas Medical School. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Memorials can be sent to St. Jude's Hospital, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. She is set to be buried at the Healy Cemetery in Healy.

James "Jim" Burdett

NESS CITY -- Services for James "Jim" Burdett, 82, will be at First Baptist Church in Ness City at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Russell King presiding.

Mr. Burdett died Friday, March 7, 2003. Born Oct. 25, 1920, in a sod house in rural Ness County to James C. and Mary W. Mellies Burdett. He was a farmer and stockman and was a lifetime Ness County resident.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ness City. He also was member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in LaCrosse and a World War II Army Veteran of the 10th Mountain Division and recipient of a Bronze Star.

On July 17, 1959, he married Mary Ellen Brandt in Ransom, Kan.

Survivors include his wife, sons Everett Burdett of Salina and Michael Burdett of Larned, daughters Debbie Paxson of Garden City and Deidra Suchsland of Agra, sister Lois Provost of New Orleans, Lillian Strobel of Ransom and ten grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Virgil and Art Burdett, and six sisters, Mildred Whitfield, Sabina Hawkins, Lucy Louser, Elsie Petersilie, Ivy Owens and Ula Mueller.

Burial will be in the Ness City Cemetery with military graveside rites by Ness City American Legion Frank Stull Post 152, assisted by the Sons of the American Legion.

Friends may call between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday through Monday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, and at the church prior to the service on Tuesday.

Memorials can be sent to the Parkinson Foundation and the First Baptist Church in Ness City.

Beverly Beohler

ULYSSES - Memorial service for Beverly Beohler, 61, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Private family inurnment will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Mrs. Beohler died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born April 26, 1941, at Garden City, the daughter of Clyde Leroy and Lois Lavada Titus Faulds.

A lifetime resident of Ulysses, she was employed as a beautician for four years before joining Tarbet Ready Mix and Construction in Ulysses. She enjoyed her children, gardening and pets.

Survivors include her mother, Ulysses; her companion, Joe Tarbet, of the home; a son, William J. Beohler Jr., Parker, Colo.; three daughters, Kim Harmon of Ulysses, Debbie Bennett of Ruidoso, N.M., and Tari Jo Perdue of Lawrence; a brother, Robert Faulds of Grand Junction, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; a daughter, April June Beohler; a sister, Dixie Piper; two granddaughters, Bo Megan Beohler and Mallari Genét Harmon; and a niece.

Memorials are suggested to Ulysses Relay For Life, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

Todd Alan Beasley

Funeral for Todd Alan Beasley, 27, of Olathe, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ Community Church, Olathe, with burial in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Beasley died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at his home after a battle with lung cancer.

Born in Mexico, Mo., he had been a resident of Kansas for more than 20 years. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1997, was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and attended Christ Community Church. He worked for Pulte Home Builders for the past five years where he was most recently the project manager, and achieved Superintendent of the Year in 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Julie (Blickenstaff) Beasley, a former Garden City resident; a son, Tate, of the home; his parents, Art and Glenda Beasley of Louisburg; a sister, Amy Hughes of Edgerton; two brothers, Kip Beasley of Chicago, and Jon Beasley of Bloomington, Ind.; his grandmothers, Lois Grinstead and Jessie Ann Beasley, both of Centralia, Mo.; and five nephews.

A gathering of Mr. Beasley's friends and family is planned from 5 to 8 tonight at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel in Overland Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Alliance for Lung Cancer Advocacy, Support and Education Unit 78, Box 4800, Portland, OR 97208-4800; the Todd Beasley Memorial Scholarship Fund at Louisburg High School, in care of the funeral home, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210; or to Olathe Hospice, 20333 W. 151st St., Olathe, KS 66061.

Galard Carl Lane

Johnson CITY - Galard Carl Lane, 68, of Johnson City, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark.

He was born May 15, 1934, at Garden City, the son of Leslie Orval "Spec" and Minta Maree Rorick Lane. He graduated from Johnson High School and Fort Hays State University.

Mr. Lane taught school for a short time and was a thoroughbred horse trainer. He enjoyed golf.

On Nov. 24, 1997, he married Pat Kokemueller in Johnson City. She survives. He also is survived by two stepchildren, Greg Kokemueller and Debbie Lijewski, both of Hot Springs; a brother, Galen Lane of Johnson City; and three stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janice Armstrong Dorr.

Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Sunday at Oaklawn Park Chapel, Oaklawn Park Race Track in Hot Springs, with Chaplain Gary Stinson and the Rev. Jonathan Beyer officiating. A second service is planned for 10 a.m. March 14 at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City, with the Rev. Glenn Fogo officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Galard Lane Memorial Fund, in care of Johnson State Bank, Box 130, Johnson KS 67855.

Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Inc., Hot Springs, is in charge of arrangements.
