Julie Ann Gorman, age 74 of Mound City, Kansas died Friday December 16, 2011 at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She was born on April 27, 1937 on a Farm east of Prescott, Kansas the daughter of Roland and Mildred Miller Gorman. Julia was a life time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mound City, Kansas. She was a 1954 graduate of Mound City High School. She then went on the Kansas State Teachers College graduating in 1958 with her teaching degree. While at college she was a cheerleader for four years, the last serving as head cheerleader in 1957, the same year the football team won the national championship. After College she started her teaching profession in Uniontown, Kansas as a home economics teacher for one year, she then moved to Mound City where she taught for 36 years until her retirement. She then worked at the Mound City Nursing Home for seven years. Julia enjoyed Antiques, Nice cars and clothes’, going to tractor pulls and was an avid KU basketball fan. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include two brothers; John Gorman of Overland Park, Kansas, and Jerry Gorman and Wife Donna of Pittsburg, Kansas, a sister Carol Sue Fruit and husband Bob of Overland Park, Kansas, and seven nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday December 21, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mound City Kansas. Rosary will be at 5:00 pm Tuesday December 20, 2011 followed by a Visitation till 7:00 pm at the Schneider Funeral Home Mound City Chapel. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart cemetery in Mound City, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the charity of ones choice.

Ester Jane Teeter

Ester Jane Teeter, age 93, Mound City, Kansas passed away December 10, 2011 at the Prescott Country View. She was born November 8, 1918 at Mound City the daughter of Leo B. and Edna E. Hahn Scott. She worked as a school teacher, as a cook at Arbogast Dari Curl, and in the Linn County Clerk’s office. She was a member of the Wall Street Christian Church. She married Lewis Teeter on August 7, 1940 at Mound City. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was an infant son, a son, Marion Teeter, two brothers, Charles and Waldo Scott, and four sisters: Thresa Noggle, Ellen Stutsman, Gladys Ward, and Leah Ellis. Ester is survived by two sons, Marvin Teeter of Enid, Oklahoma and Lawrence Teeter of Drexel, Missouri, three brothers; Bill Scott of Mound City, Calvin Scott of Mesa, Arizona, and L.D. Scott of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Wall Street Christian Church. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday at the Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City Chapel. The family suggests contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, Box J, Mound City, Kansas 66056. Arrangements: Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City Chapel.

Virginia Rose McCammon

Virginia Rose McCammon, 85, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, December 05, 2011 at her home. She was born April 10, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Mathias B. and Bertha Marty Kroeger. She married Gene McCammon on August 14, 1986. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1988.
Virginia worked as a cook at the Tip Toe Inn Café in Pleasanton, Kansas for sixteen years. She was also a housewife and enjoyed playing Nintendo and loved her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents one brother, Mathias Kroeger, one sister, Dorothy Bachmann and three grandchildren, Calvin Kimler McCord and Danielle and Christina McCord.
Survivors include four daughters, Sandy Haynes & Eddie, of Pleasanton, Kansas; Peggy Meeter & Earl of Arizona; Karolyn Watson of LaMonte, Missouri and Donna Durocher of Knoxville, Tennessee; her grandchildren;
Virginia Haynes, Renea & Joshua Marshall and Joshua & Nicole Haynes, all of Pleasanton, Kansas; Jennifer Hayes of Knoxville, Tennesee, Misty Rudd of Maryville, Tennessee, Penny & Allen Zingre of Alabama, Timmy & Lorie McCurdy of Eudora, Rusty & Sharron McCurdy of Maine, Angie & Baxter Armstrong of Knobnoster, Missouri, Sonya & Reggie Nendez of Warrensburg, Missouri, Michale & Cindy Anderson of Liberty, Missouri and Pat Bethany Anderson of Denver, Colorado; 27 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Schneider Funeral Home, Pleasanton Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Wednesday at the Chapel.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Virginia McCammon Memorial Fund c/o Schneider Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery.

Murriell Yates Wilson

Murriell Yates Wilson, age 93, of Garnett, Kansas died Thursday December 1, 2011 at the Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care. She was born July 12, 1918 the daughter of Mary Elizabeth and Charles Cooke Walter. She graduated from Kincaid High School. She married John Hardin Yates. To this union three children were born, David, Jane and Claron. John preceded her in death on November 28, 1993. She then married Earl Wilson on May 6, 1998. Murriell was a wife and a homemaker. She also worked outside the home at Vern & Kays IGA, and as a nurse’s aid at nursing homes in the Garnett area. Murriell is survived by her husband Earl of Garnett, two sons, David Yates and Barbara of Mound City, Kansas, Claron Yates of Osage City, Kansas, one daughter Jane Danner and Gary of Garnett, stepson Ron Wilson and Joy, step daughter Janet Henley, grandchildren Tracy Schneider and Todd, Michael Katzer and Melissa, and Monica Katzer, great grandchildren Blaise, Aidan, Giavona and Celeste Schneider, and a niece Billy Faye Dickson and Gary.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday December 8, 2011 at the New Life Baptist Church, Garnett, Kansas. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the New Life Baptist Church. The family suggests contributions to the Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care Activity Fund. Ruth Irene Massey

Ruth Irene Massey, age 87, of LaCygne, Kansas died Saturday November 26, 2011 at Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born May 4, 1924 at Moran, Kansas the daughter of Moyne and Bessie Smith Knapp. She worked in the mail order department at Montgomery Ward for thirty-six years before retiring in 1981. Ruth was married to Roy Massey in June of 1978. Together, they enjoyed dancing at numerous venues throughout the Midwest. She was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Yost. She is survived by her husband Roy Massey of LaCygne, one brother Ray Knapp, four sisters: Lorene Likely, Marjorie Klimek, Elda Konrady, and Ruby Knapp, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held 1PM Tuesday November 29, 2011 at the Oak Lawn cemetery in LaCygne, Kansas. Friends and family may gather at 12 noon until departure for the cemetery at the Schneider Funeral Home, LaCygne Chapel. Arrangements: Schneider Funeral Home, LaCygne Chapel.

Darline Lois Laws, age 84, LaCygne, Kansas passed away Friday November 25, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on August 28, 1927 at Teagarden, Oklahoma the daughter of Orie and Esther Crabb Nokes. She was married to John Laws who preceded her in death in December of 2000. Darline worked as a postal clerk in Kansas City, Kansas before retirement. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, LaCygne, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees serving for a time as historian. Also preceding her in death were two sons, Richard and Daniel Criger, a brother John Nokes, and two sisters Dona Weeks, and Evelyn Ring. She is survived by her children; Larry Criger of Olathe, Kansas, Michael Criger of Blue Springs, Missouri, Teresa Staley of Weaubleau, Missouri, David Laws, Larry Laws, Carolyn Johnson, and Linda Davis, one brother, Elmer, “Mickey” Nokes, one sister Olive Rader,fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Calvary Baptist Church in LaCygne. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until service at the church. Graveside held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansa s City, Kansas 2:30 PM. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Arthur (Art) Newton Francis, age 86 of La Cygne, Kansas died Thursday April 19, 2012 at the Olathe Medical Center. He was born on August 24, 1925 at Merwin, Missouri the son of Alex and Louisa Ethel Bartlett Francis. Art was a veteran serving his country during WWII with the United States Army. He married Mary Alice Anderson on September 14, 1950 at Harrison, Arkansas. He worked for Bendix-Honeywell as a planner for 39 years. He was a member of the La Cygne Christian Church, was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 63 AF & AM La Cygne, Kansas, and a member of the WWII Museum, the VFW, and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Alex Jr. Francis, and two infant sisters. Survivors include his wife Mary Francis of Paola, Kansas, five daughters; Glenna Farris and Jim of La Cygne, Kansas, Linda Browning and Dennis of La Cygne, Kansas, Rhonda Moore and Jim of La Cygne, Kansas, Brenda Taylor of Butler, Missouri, and Mitzi Mossman and Mark of Center Lake, Iowa, a brother Glenn Francis, 13 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
Service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday April, 22 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory La Cygne Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday April, 21, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home La Cygne, Chapel. Burial will be in the Star Valley cemetery near La Cygne, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the North Point Skill Nursing left in C/O Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, P.O. Box 304 La Cygne, Kansas 66040.

Michael Edward Clemens

Michael Edward (Lil Mike) Clemens, age 27, Pleasanton, Kansas died Friday April 13, 2012. He was born on December 30, 1984 at Fort Scott, Kansas the son of Michael L. and Janie Campbell Clemens. He was a carpenter with an expertise in framing. He married Amber Bowden on October 20, 2007. He was preceded in death by paternal great grandparents, Edward and Jessie Clemens and Great Aunt Annie Edwards. Mike was a wonderful son, father and husband. He leaves behind wife Amber and three beautiful girls: Chloey Ann, Adrianna Rose, and Madison Paige. The girls were Michael’s world and he was proud to be called “Daddy”. Mike is also survived by his parents, Michael L. and Renee Clemens of Pleasanton, Kansas and Janie Charley and Jeff Long of Kansas City, Kansas, a grandmother Patricia DeMott of Pleasanton, two brothers, Louis Charley of Kansas City, Kansas and Trever Stroud of Pleasanton; two sisters, Amy Charley, and Kayleigh Clemens of Pleasanton, Aunt Diane Stump and Uncle Lonnie of Fort Scott, Kansas, Penny Tennison of St. Louis, Missouri and Diane Stroud of Drexel, Missouri. Extended family: Aunt Sandy and Eddie Haynes and children, Aunt Carol and Bobbie Cole and children, father and mother in law, Rhonda and Bill Bennett, brother in laws, Cody Bowden and Billy Bennett, sister in law Courtney Bennett, one special niece, Bella, other nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Rachel and Isaac Rhodes.
Memorial service will be held 7 PM Thursday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton, Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6 PM until service. Private family interment will be at Green Valley Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Michael Clemens Memorial Fund, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P. O. Box 525, Pleasanton, Kansas 66075. Teresa Ann Staton, age 68, Pleasanton, Kansas died Friday April 13, 2012 at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born in Kansas City, Kansas on January 6, 1944 the daughter of John and Anna Laskowski Sajwaj. She worked as a nurse before retirement. She is survived by a son, Tim Staton, of Pleasanton, Kansas, three daughters: Michelle Staton-Tally, Becky Crowthers, and Melanie Staton all of Pleasanton, two brothers, Tom and Mick Sajwaj, one sister Susan Sajwaj and five grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 6:30 PM Friday April 20, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5 to 6:30 prior to service. Billy Ray Graddy, age 62, Pleasanton, Kansas died Friday April 13, 2012. He was born on June 27, 1949 at Cayce, Kentucky the son of Raymond and Vivian Graddy. He worked as an electrician. Billy was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the American Legion in Olathe, Kansas. He was preceded in death by a brother in childhood, and a sister Rebecca Seaton. He is survived by his wife Tina of the home, one son, Christopher Hartman of Kansas City, Kansas, four daughters: Cheryl Horowitz of Coral Springs, Florida, Kathy Graddy of Thousand Oaks, California, Greta Wakefield of Gardner, Kansas and Jennifer Evans of Cape Coral, Florida, one brother, Raymond Graddy Jr. of Fulton, Kentucky, two sisters, Carolyn Yates of Paxton, Illinois and Peggy Armitage of Bellevue, Nebraska, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held 6 PM Thursday April 19, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, LaCygne Chapel. Friends may call from 4 PM until service time. Alice Grace Wood, age 82, of LaCygne, Kansas died Thursday April 12, 2012. She was born on March 9, 1930 at Seneca, Kansas the daughter of LeRoy and Grace Norris Teitz. She was married to Dorval Wood who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #385 in Independence, Missouri. Her love of family was most important in her life. She enjoyed working with ceramics and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Allen. She is survived by her special friend, George Kitchell of LaCygne, four sons: Lloyd Upham of Buckner, Missouri, Terry Wood of LaCygne, Kelly Wood of Independence, Missouri and James, JD, Wood of LaCygne, four daughters: Sherry Hutchison of Blue Springs, Missouri, Candice Faulkner of Independence, Debby Tierney of Kansas City, Kansas and Brenda Gambino of Independence, twenty-one grand and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, LaCygne Chapel. Burial will be in the Star Valley Cemetery. Betty Allene Crowther, age 89 of Burlington, Kansas passed away Saturday April 7, 2012 at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas. She was born on December 22, 1922 at Richards, Missouri the daughter of Roy B. and Leona L. Hamby Johnson. Betty was a graduate of Hume High School. She married William Earl King on October 23, 1942, to the union three children were born he preceded her in death on January 7, 1979. Betty then married Charles Crowther on April 25, 1987 at Fort Scott, Kansas; he preceded her in death on April 25, 1998. Betty worked for the Prescott Schools as a cook. She was a member of the Hume Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary, and the Pioneer Harvest Association in Fort Scott, Kansas. She loved to bowl, and would always help with the Cole Center Days in Prescott, Kansas. She is also preceded in death by her parents and a son Connie King. Survivors include a son John King of Odessa, Missouri, a daughter Donna Adams of Burlington, Kansas, five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday April 9, 2012 at the Prescott United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 to service time at the Church. Burial will be in the Maple Grove cemetery near Hammond, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the Prescott United Methodist Church and may be left in C/O the Schneider Funeral Home Pleasanton Chapel P.O. Box 525, Pleasanton, Kansas 66075.

DONALD WILLIAM (DONNIE) YOUNG
Donnie Young passed away April 5, 2012. He was born September 27, 1974, in Orange Park, Florida, to William B. and Patricia Young. Donald spent his early life in Kansas City, Kansas, and attended Muncie Elementary School. He later transferred to La Cygne, Kansas, where he graduated from Prairie View High School in 1993. He was residing in Lansing, Kansas, when he passed away.
Donnie was a carpenter by trade and worked in many capacities in his field, from laborer to general contractor. He was devoted to his children and loved them above all others. His quirky smile, big heart and loving personality made him a friend too many. He will be greatly missed by all.
Donnie was preceded in death by his father, William (Bill) Young, and older brother, Dennis Young, and his grandparents, Gerald M. (Mike) and Marian L. Young. He is survived by his children Hope, Alicia and Tanner Young, brother David Young, sisters Melissa Marmon and Renae Young and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family suggests contributions to the Donnie Young Memorial Fund to help defray expenses and establish a fund for his children.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday April 10, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home La Cygne Chapel. Visitation will be form 2:00 Pm to service time at the Schneider Funeral Home La Cygne Chapel. A Private family burial will be in the Oak Lawn cemetery in La Cygne, Kansas. The Family suggests to the Donald Young Memorial Fund left in C/O the Schneider Funeral Home P.O. box 304 La Cygne, Kansas 66040.

Dennie LeRoy Ferrell

Dennie LeRoy Ferrell, age 59, Lawrence, Kansas formerly of LaCygne, Kansas died Saturday March 31, 2012 at his home. He was born on May 16, 1952 at Centralia, Illinois the son of James LeRoy and Vera Annabelle Casner Ferrell. Dennie received an associate degree from Kaskaski College and then finished a BA in Elementary Education at Governors University. He took graduate level courses at University of Kansas and received a Maseter’s Degree in Special Education from Pittsburg State University. He taught for the first nine years at one room schools in Nebraska. He spent most of his career teaching in the Prairie School District and was currently employed in the Osawatomie District. He was a member of KNEA, the LaCygne Christian Church, and had served on the LaCygne City Council, the Library Board, and State Science Committee. He married Linda Bush on June 9, 1973 at Carlyle, Illinois. Dennie is survived by his wife Linda, of the home, parents James and Vera Ferrell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, four sons: Shamron Ferrell of Trading Post, Kansas, Cormick Ferrell of Topeka, Kansas, Shaun Ferrell and Achilles Ferrel both of Lawrence, one sister Joan Reid, of Oklahoma City and fifteen grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the LaCygne Christian Church. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Monday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, LaCygne Chapel. The family suggests contributions to Alex Scholarship Fund, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 304, LaCygne, Kansas. Arrangements: Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, LaCygne Chapel.
