Funeral services for Vera Virginia Doty, 89, Arkansas City, who died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2003 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home with the Reverend Larry Clayton and the Reverend Phillip Clayton officiating. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Sedan.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Funeral services for Lorese June, 83, Arkansas City, who died Friday, June 6, 2003, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home with Captain Johnny Harsh officiating. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery, Arkansas City.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Nina E. Smith, 84, Winfield, died Thursday, June 12, 2003 at the William Newton memorial Hospital in Winfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at the Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will be in the Union-Graham Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Joel Dean Bessire, Sr., 71, Wichita, died Thursday, June 12, 2003. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003 and funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at the St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wichita.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ruth/Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita.

Captain Archie C. Keller, 84, Houston, Texas, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, in the Springside Cemetery with Pastor Mark Boxman officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until noon on Thursday, June 19.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Bonnie Jean Pope, 70, Tonkawa, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Bredesen, pastor, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home until this evening.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home, Ponca City.

Harold S. Tritschler, 90, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at the Methodist Home in Enid. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, at the Anderson-Burris Chapel with Dion Hayes officiating. Interment will be in Enid Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Salvation Army or the American Legion.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson-Burris Funeral Home, Enid, Okla.

Myron O. Webb, 86, Arkansas City, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Medicalodge East. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the Central Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Robert Granville French, 76, Oxford, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Winfield. Private family inurnment services have been held. A memorial has been established with the Kingdom Hall. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Oxford Funeral Service, Oxford.

Savannah Barnett, 83, Arkansas City, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Joel Dean Bessire, Sr., 71, Wichita, Ret. SGM U.S. Army (30 years), Veteran of Korean and Vietnam Wars, died Thursday, June 12, 2003. The Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wichita. A memorial has been established for the Maryknoll Sisters and Fathers. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Resthaven Mortuary and Cemetery, Wichita.

Vierling James Hobbs, 54, longtime Newkirk resident, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at his home in Newkirk. Funeral arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk. The casket will not be open at the church. Memorial contributions, which will be equally divided between Hospice of Ponca City, Newkirk Fire Department and the Newkirk First United Methodist Church Building Fund, may be made to the Vierling Hobbs Memorial through Bank of Oklahoma, 110 South Main, Newkirk, OK 74647.

Melvin Murrell Miller, 71, lifetime resident of Cowley County, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at his daughter's home in Winfield. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. today. A memorial has been established for the Tisdale United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Francis Franklin "Frank" Schooling, 84, longtime resident of Winfield, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until 9 p.m. on Wednesday. A memorial has been established for the American Lung Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Vierling James Hobbs, 54, longtime Newkirk resident, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at his home in Newkirk. A Fire Department Funeral of Honor will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the Newkirk First United Methodist Church with Rev. James Hollifield officiating. The casket will be taken to the church by a fire truck driven by his nephew, fireman Dennis Bradley and escorted by the Stillwater Fire Department Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Newkirk Cemetery. Memorial contributions, which will be equally divided between Hospice of Ponca City, Newkirk Fire Department and the Newkirk First United Methodist Church Building Fund, may be made to the Vierling Hobbs Memorial through Bank of Oklahoma, 110 South Main, Newkirk, OK 74647.

Cecil R. Stubbs, 92, Oklahoma, died Sunday, June 8, 2003 in Oklahoma. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003 at the Hess Baptist Church with the Reverend Roy McDaniel officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. a the Marietta, Oklahoma Cemetery with the Reverend Stan Idell officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m..

oy E. Gene Thurber, 62, Winfield, died Monday, June 9, 2003 at the William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield. Services will be at 10 a.m. n Thursday, June 12, 2003 at the Swisher-Taylor and Morris Chapel in Winfield. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery in Winfield. A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Emily M. Haws

Emily M. Haws, 87, Oxford, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Via Christi/St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private interment will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Thursday. Born Sept. 2, 1920, in Macomb, Mo., she was the daughter of Arthur J. and Annie E. (McKinny) Willard. She had worked in the aircraft business and at a laundry. She also sewed for others. Survivors include her son, Gary W. Haws, Winfield; daughters, Judy F. Price, Wichita, and Patsy Haws of the home; sister, Laura Pierson, Springfield, Mo.; four granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Preston W. Haws; and a sister, Ruth Willard.
A memorial has been established for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles fuenral Service, Winfield.

Helen Irene Manka Storbeck

Helen Irene Manka Storbeck, 80, Wichita, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-8 p.m. Friday. Born Jan. 20, 1927, in Peabody, she was the daughter of Gladys Glessner Burton Manka and Gilbert Arthur Manka. She was a published author and judged quilting competitions throughout the U.S. and abroad. Survivors include her son, Chris B. Storbeck, Park City, Utah; son, Scott N. Storbeck, Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Thelma L. Warkentine and Marjorie J. Morgan; brother, Roy J. Manka, all of Peabody; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Robert Storbeck; son, Todd Robert Storbeck; and brother, Lyle W. Manka.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Todd R. Storbeck Endowed Scholarship at Southwestern College, Winfield, the Legacy Foundation, 1521 Main, Winfield, or the Storbeck Youth Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 1000 Millington, Winfield, KS 67156. Arrangements are under the direction of the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Kathleen Frances Haines

Kathleen Frances Haines, 59, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, in Winfield. Memorial services will be Wednesday, Oct. 10, at St. Mary's of the Assumption in Upper Marlboro, Md. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. Born Aug. 1, 1948, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Leo C. and Helen K. Kemp (Galloway). She worked for Edgewood Community Services in Silver Springs, Md., as vice president of community services for 27 years. Survivors include her son, Patrick Scott Dougherty, Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Felice Jerrells, Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Martha Kemp, Winfield; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial has been established for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.

Donald "Gene" Gaschler

Donald "Gene" Gaschler, 79, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007. A blessing service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until time of blessing on Saturday. Survivors include his wife, Betty (Adkinson) Gaschler; two daughters, Rhonda (Darrell) Stolhand and Vicky (Ernie) Keck; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; three sisters and one brother.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Sam C. Taylor, 95, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at the Dexter Care Center.
